Resolved Question: Are illegal drugs really that bad?

Now this is a subject for debate. I believe that some illegal drugs are less dangerous than various "legal" substances consumed throughout the world daily. For instance, the amount of damage alcohol does on a global scale to peoples health and possibly the amount of violence in the world. As quoted from several police forces in the UK, many violent offences are caused by alcohol. Alcohol can also be highly addictive and lots of people I know would be classed as alcoholic with the amount they drink. I don't have anything against drinking, and I do have a drink now and then and occasionally get a bit drunk but always know when I have had to much and when to stop. Also, smoking cigarettes is a number one cause of lung cancers and various others and contains the highly addictive ingredient nicotine. On a scientific rating, nicotine is up there with Heroin and Cocaine for damage and addictiveness. Now look at various "illegal" drugs such as cannabis. Obviously if smoked you can get the damage from high temperatures from ignition but in terms of state of mind people are much more calm, peaceful and overall more pleasant. I know people who smoke this and only when taken in excess can it be a problem. Like anything else like food and even exercise. Cannabis has proven pain killing effects for cancer patients and ms sufferers and also helps with depression. Vapourisation would be the best way to take this. Any comment are appreciated.I have researched a fair bit by reading various scientific papers and doing a bit of testing myself. I have found that any kind of excessive or abusive behavour towards any substance is a bad thing. It all boils down to chemical reactions in the brain, and the pleasure/reward system. Some people are more prone to having addictive behavours than others. As for the post with the cannabis addict, I am sorry to hear this, there has to be some sort of group that helps people in these situations. She is suffering from her won genetics causing her to put getting high above anything else. I feel for people in these situations and abstinance is best for these kind of people. I find people are brainwashed into having biased opinions on drugs when you think about it life is a gift you have only once and then its gone so make the most of it, but look after yourself and don't over do it. more

Resolved Question: Weed Bad smoking cigarettes better?

I answered this question ( http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090629114608AA5o1hr&cp=2) and found that most people are uneducated about the affects of marijuana compared to other drugs. 1.NOONE HAS EVER DIED SMOKING MARIJUANA. 65 people each day die on our highways due to alcohol. Between 1964 and 2004, cigarette smoking caused an estimated 12 million deaths, including 4.1 million deaths from cancer, and 5.5 million deaths from cardiovascular diseases. 2.NOADICTION NO POISON There are approximately 14 million people in the United States addicted to alcohol and millions more who display symptoms of abuse, including binge drinking. When smoking tobacco, the user inhales tar, nicotine, carbon monoxide, and 200 known poisons into the lungs. The nicotine in cigarettes is powerfully addictive 3.WEED HAS MEDICINAL PROPERTIES AND IS KNOWN TO HELP WITH AIDS AND CANCER TREATMENT. I dont know if a doctor has ever perscribed alcohol or tobacco as a remedy for your tumor. Has he? lmao 4.PEACEFUL When people do drugs like pcp, meth, nicotine, alcohol, etc. they can turn violent. the only thing we want to do when we are high is eat and sleep. O__o 5. A lot of people have been saying that since smoking weed has no filter its bad. but the real question is what does it need a filter for? to filter out 200 poisons that affect your lungs? All im saying is get ur facts and dont listen to the media about marijuana. the gorvernment has been lying about it since the early 80s. remember "refer madness" the movie that was put out to make marijuana look like it made u want to kill people? well im no expert im just a friendly smoker. and i can tell everybody that people dont die from weed. :) more

Resolved Question: Smoke or the actually tobacco! Which one kill you?

I heard that in cigarettes the tobacco or nicotine is not what kill you! Its the smoke from the cigarettes. This was related to marijuana because people was saying is it from the earth and can't be harmful... U know??? But someone said it's not the marijuana but the smoke that marijuana produce that kills you!!!! How true is this statement about the smoke from these different drugs rather than the toxic chemicals inside of it. Does that mean if i wrap anythin up like lettuce and smoke it even though the lettuce is not harmful! The smoke it produce is toxic and will kill me!!! Please provide some sources if you can! more

Resolved Question: How bad is nicotine in gums and patches?

So I'm a little confused. As a youngling I was always told nicotine is super bad for you and never ever to smoke. But now I see products with nicotine in them like gum, patches etc to give you the nicotine you're addicted to but without the harmful effects from the other toxins in cigarettes. So is nicotine simply the addicting part of the cigarette, while it's all the OTHER crap in cigs that's so bad and causes lung cancer and kills you? Or is nicotine pretty bad too? P.S. I'm 15, have never smoked and never will. Just curious about this whole nicotine issue. more

Resolved Question: Does Obama not understand that this new tobacco rule will hurt his constituents?

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20090612/D98OQ0CG0.html WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate struck a historic blow against smoking in America Thursday, voting overwhelmingly to give regulators new power to limit nicotine in the cigarettes that kill nearly a half-million people a year, to drastically curtail ads that glorify tobacco and to ban flavored products aimed at spreading the habit to young people. His signature would then add tobacco to other huge, nationally important areas that have come under greater government supervision since his presidency began. Those include banking, housing and autos. Still to come, if Congress can agree: health care. ------- Does he not realize that most of the low-income people who made up a huge part of his voter base during the election are going to be pissed. I dont even know what kinda riots there would be if he stopped people from being able to buy cigarettes someday. Just another part of the private sector the gov is messing with. Putins brotha from anotha motha.. @ ~: "As a smoker, I see nothing wrong with what they are doing. In fact, from what I have read, they will be removing over 4000 toxins and carcinogens and additives that make them more addictive with this new legislation. They aren't trying to make cigarettes illegal, they are trying to get more people to not start. We can still smoke." I know they arent making them illegal yet but first they pass a higher tax on cigs to fund healthcare, and then they move in to make less nic content and less harmfull. While I agree with what this does on the surface, it is all happening just like other socialist countries. As part of their universal health service they will start trying to reduce the immense cost of treating everyone free by making things like trans fats illegal, trying to forcibly make everything more healthy etc and none of these things are good for the economy and frankly if I want to smoke a marlboro red I should be able to."Why is the largest cigarette company, phillip morris, strongly in favor of the bill?" Because they are looking to dominate the amrket share by beign the frist to implement this and be able to sell more, they have been for this for some time. If they wanted their cigs to be healthier they wouldnt have waited for a federal mandate to do it moron.. @"you almost sounded smart in the first part. but then you started to sound dumb. tobacco is no good for anyone . you know how many die and get sick from this. read some more did you know that thee is a ban in greece and 24 other countries where you cant smoke at all so your screaming about some ads there regulating when the bill was already up before barry was in office. not just low income people everybody vote for him even you. that's how he won. you give us conservative a bad name. not knowing all the information." First of all I am a conservative and I did not vote for Obama. I know cigarettes are bad, I agree which is why I dont smoke. But see whats happening here, this is the kind of thing we will continue to see as he pushes through his national healthcare, they will do what other countries do and start banning things that "are bad for you", to include trans fats, cigs and all sorts of other things, or increase the tax on them. more

Resolved Question: A political question about drugs..dangerous or just non-profitable for Uncle Sam..?

First of all let me state that I do not encourage the abuse of drugs in any shape or form however I was having a round table discussion with some comrads and the subject of drugs sorta came up. Think about it, its ok to have guns that kill as long as you don't plan to kill but its absolutely illegal to have a cannabis sativa in your home even if you don't plan to roll it up. Why? My theory...government can tax guns, and tragically enough even the funeral of the person you kill but they can't really tax a plant that you can find in your nearest rainforest. Is it more about money then safety that we are told to "just say no". Consider tobacco and nicotine into the equation. Cigarettes are constantly receiving a bad rep but why isn't it against the law? Consider even the dangerous side effects of prescription drugs. Government can tax it. Am I right or wrong? Stick to the subject please, this is strictly politics. more

Resolved Question: Marilize Legajuana ;)?

(Legalize Marijuana for those of you not too quick to catch on) I'm 15. don't say i'm too young or that my parents would be dissappointed, cause even though i don't burn WITH them, my parents are fellow pot smokers :) Here's a blog that a friend of mine wrote, that i'd like to share with you.: "1: Prohibiton has never worked. When you think about it, people have been purposly breaking the rules since Adam and Eve. Do not eat from the tree of knowlage. Who was watching them? God. How many people was he watching? Two. And from then on, people have never and never will stop breaking the rules/laws. 2: Marijuana does not kill brain cells. In 1974 Ronald Reagan anounces permanent brain damage is caused because of marijuana. DEA conducted an expirement where a certain amount of monkeys were subjected to 30 joints of weed a day, and others were not. The monkeys exposed to the marijuana began to die after 90 days. The study became the foundation of the government and claimed that marijuana killed brain cells. After 6 years of requests of how the study was conducted, it was finally revealed. Instead of administering 30 joints a day for one year, doctor heath pumped 63 joints through a gas mask without adding any tubes for oxygen a day. The monkeys suffacated from not being exposed to oxygen. The monkeys brains shut down, and if you suffacate, the first things thats going to happen is your brain cells are going to die. Therefore, the government proved NOTHING. 4 minutes without oxygen can cause brain cell damage. Studies since have not showed it damaging brain cells, but that it may actually stimulate brain cell growth. But those studies haven't recieved the same amount of attention. 3: Marijuana does not cause lung cancer. There hasen't been one case shown where the lung cancer is related to marijuana alone. You can get lung damage from it because it paralizes the cillia, but because it is not radio-active your probably not going to get cancer from it. Smoking anything can be harmful simply because the properties of smoke. Its not as a result from anything in the weed plant, its because you are intaking heated plant matter into your lungs. Theres no cases of marijuana only smokers getting brown lung syndrome, or emphazema. Stange for a plant thats so "dangerous", how come none of that? 4: The number one killer in the country (it beat out AIDS, heroin, crack, cocaine, alcohol, car accidents, fire, and murder all combined) is tobacco. With an average of 430,000 deaths per year, considering its a number one killer, its intresting that it is legal. Number 2 on the list with well over 85,000 deaths per year, alcohol. Caffine comes in with 1-10,000 deaths a year. 7500 deaths related to over the counter drugs. Where does marijuana lie in this? What staggering number of people die because of weed? 0. There are no deaths related to cannabis use, it does not exist, you can not find one anywhere. Even when scientists expose small animals to hundreds of times of what a human can take in, they still don't overdose from it. Not one university, or medical facility has recorded one death attributed to marijuana. 5: You can not get addicted to marijuana. There are more kids in addiciton clinics for marijuana for any other substance. However only 3% of the people in rehab for marijuana use are there voluntarily. 97% are either told to by their parents or by a judge. In order, the most addictive to the least addictive substances, nicotine is one, alcohol is two, then heroin, then cocain, then coffee, and then marijuana. Marijauna is at the very bottom... below coffee. If you smoke marijuana every day for a year, and then quit, you will have no withdrawls. You'll notice differences, but it will not be difficult at all to quit smoking it. 6: Marijuana is only a gateway drug because of its illegalization. Often, drug dealers sell other drugs. Coke, pills, whatever. When you buy weed, illigally, the drug dealer may offer you these drugs, that you would not have originally been exposed to if you went to the gas station and bought some weed legally. The only reason people get exposed to them is because people offer them to you, while your buying a harmless drug, marijuana. Only one out of every 104 marijuana users use cocaine. 7: You will not be useless to society if you smoke marijuana. There are way over 50 million pot smokers in america, and half of the canadian population has tried it, and yet both societies seem to flourish. Steven johnson created the apple computers while smoking pot, the guy who developed CNN smokes pot, you go through every musician you like from the rolling stones, to the beatles, to led zepplin, to snoop dogg, to willy nelson, they all smoke pot. Almost every american president has admitted to smoking pot. People who are lazy and who are gonna lose their jobs, are going to lose their jobs anyway, its not because of marijuana." oh, plus, "Using figures from a varietyPS, i mixed up the words in the question title on purpose haha :) mariLIZE LEGAjuana, LEGALIZE marijuana . get it ? ;)Oh oops, i just realized i typed too much and it ran out of space. the rest basically said that the government spends around 7 billion dollars a year relating to prohibtion, and regulation/ taxation would actually PROFIT the government around 2 billion dollars. and the question was : Are you for or against the Legalization of weed? more

Resolved Question: How do I cope with feelings of impending doom?

I constantly feel like something I have done in my life is going to kill me, and I constantly feel like I am going to die soon from something. I am afraid that I have taken too much medication in my life and it is going to catch up to me. I have taken over about twenty different drugs that are for psychiatric problems in the past. Not to mention I have taken about twenty for medical problems in the past. I didn't take all of these at the same time, and I took most of them a decent time apart. I am so afraid I may have done damage tomy brain. However about four months ago I had multiple tests on my heart and a scan of my brain to see if everything was okay. Nothing came back positive for problems. I got off of my anti-depressant about a month ago and the withdrawals have almost completely stopped. Can anyone shed some light on what's going on with me and if I am going to die soon? If I am going to die soon I would like to see all of my family and friends and tell them goodbye and that I love them. Drugs I have been on that I can think of: 1. Sereoquil (A few times) 2. Vistaril (For a couple of months) 3. Paxil (Three years) 4. Wellbutrin (Once) 5. Prozac (two weeks) 6. Depakote (Three months) 7. Gabitril (Four months) 8. Phenobarbitol (Four times) 9. Ativan (three weeks) 10. Klonopin (four months) 11. Zyprexa (three months) 12. Propanalol (three months) 13. Verapamil (one month) 14. Aspirin (a few times) 15. Tylenol (periodically for pain) 16. Marijuana (Few times) 17. Embalming fluid (once) 18. Omeprazol (month) 19. Pepto Bismal (periodically) 20. Mylanta (periodically) 21. Torodal (once) 22. Vicodin (two weeks) 23. Folic Acid (six months) 24. Benedryll (periodically) 25. Claritin (week) 26. Zyrtec (few times) 27. Dymatap (few times) 28. Ibuprofen (periodically) 29. Abilify (a few times) 30. Trazadone (few times) 31. Alcohol (twice) 32. Nicotine (three years) 33. Uni-daily vitamen That's about all I can think of for now. I would just like to say the only things I am taking now are over the counter tylenol and perscription omeprazol. Do you think doing all these medications over my life time would have a physical detrimental impact on my health. more

Resolved Question: Poem I wrote at the beach in Florida?

I wrote this at Jax Beach, just chillin, I was waitin on a ride and got inspired i guess. constructive critisism welcome jus no bashing. The wind seeping into my clothes, Smell of salt water and sand, The dampness swimming over my body, The florida coldness on my hands. Cigarette lit in between my parched lips, Hunger sticks in like a knife, Stinging nicotine sensation in my mouth, Looking into the distance; I wonder if its good to be alive. Book clenched tight into my hands, cellphone near me waiting for refuge, Staring people approach and walk on, I wonder what they're thinking; I wonder if my mask is see through. Not even wondering about what tomorrow will bring, I sit semi alert and partially awake, Legs killing me from my "not so used to" walk, Now standing tall and still thinking how long it would take for the ocean to take me away.haha i get what you mean, the "away" part would have sounded much more fluent with its own line. Thanks!yes it is. it means to leak through. "The smell was seeping through the door" lol. more

Voting Question: I have a smart Idea about Tobacco and other Drugs...?

A lot of people dont know that Smoking kills millions of people each year, but if your reading this, now you do, I have somewhat of an idea on the subject. Tobacco and Cigars are horrible for you, they create heart disease, they cause lung disease, oral cancer's and many other diseases, but thats because they use freaking Pesticides and RAT TOXIN in the products, It is also HIGHLY addictive, but why doesnt someone do this? The way that people are addicted to these Drugs, that KILL YOU, why not make something LIKE a cigar, but is HEALTHY for you? out of all the science we have today, and people who make cures for disease, and we are even able to go into Space, which long ago no one thought possible, but even with all this technology and smart's in the world, why can't we make something that is GOOD for the body and is also ADDICTIVE, more Addictive than Nicotine, and replace all cigars with that product, that way the people who do smoke now, would be doing something thats like what they are used to doing, it would TASTE good because its GOOD for you, and is JUST as addictive? i know that someone can, we just are putting it off as something that isnt important, but yet MILLIONS OF MILLIONS Of people DIE as in NEVER come back to life DEAD, die EACH and EVERY year, and if u do smoke, dont say "oh thats dumb it'll never happen to me, because it probibly will! even if u dont get a disease like lung cancer, you will still look like your 70 when your 50 years old and have been smoking for a long time.... if you even live that long... you will still SMELL horrible, and yet people still continue to do it! i dont understand why anyone would want to look like a torn down, piece of junk. so dont think it wont happen, because it will, no one wants to think about it though, and the people who do smoke and dip and chew and all drugs dont realize that they are pretty stupid, its addictive, your GOING to THINK that it wont happen, but the people who die every day from it say the EXACT SAME THING! YOU COULD BE NEXT!!!!!!! Thank you for reading, i just thought i would share an idea...yes smoking is addictive, Nicotine, if it wasnt addictive why would people do it if they knew that it was bad for them? and even because they know its bad for them, doesnt mean a thing, they havn't experienced why they are bad, thats why people still do it, the whole thing going back to, "It wont happen to me!" that is what the problem is... people and me as well, as well as every person on the planet is going to think at least once in their life that they know a lot of stuff, so they think their right, so they do what they want to do (not sure if im phrasing this right) and dont get into specifics about how a healthy alternative to cigars would be, im sure we can find out how to make healthy things addictive...and wow thats sort of hearthless? population control... no offence but your a jerk, those people have lives too, but most people are too stuborn to think about how they have lives just like yours, however if they want to throw their lives away smoking, mabye so, but still, thats pretty coldthats the problem.... people dont do anything about it! god, all these ignorant people in the world, it makes me sick, leaving people as they stand.... thats something i cant do, someone needs to do something about it! And i said HEALTHY and good and addictive.... haha, so yeah... no fatass's from this Do we really want our friends and family to DIE? because of something a few owners of the company refuse to do? money money money, thats all people want... they dont care if they KILL people each year because of something that gains them money, thats just plain greed and extremely idiotic... more

Resolved Question: Smoking during pregnancy good?

ok, there was some videos on youtube of pregnant women smoking, and everyone was leaving comments like it's a good thing such as: "keep, smoking, the baby is probably used to it by now.", "your videos are beautiful." "Don't listen to everyone else, keep smoking." and I'm sitting there like WTF! since when is a pregnant woman smoking a beautiful?! I think it's horrible. I know nicotine is very addicting, but don't they care about the baby at all? That's pretty selfish. They're pretty much killing their baby very slowly, and I read on a website that 3,000 babies in the U.S. die of sudden death syndrome from a mother that smokes. What are your opinions?no, they weren't sarcastic comments, because anyone that left a comment saying it was bad, got a bunch of thumbs down.ok, first of all to baby girl due in August: I'm 15, why would I be pregnant? second I'm not judging people, I'm just saying it's wrong for people to encourage a mother to smoke while pregnant. Third, I know I'm not perfect, no one is, and forth, I already said I know how hard it is for people to quit smoking. Jeez! more

Resolved Question: WIll I get lung, mouth or stomach cancer now at age 16?

Alright so I was stupid and tried smoking when I was 15 on December 21, 2007. It is May 1, 2009 now and I have smoked less than 300 smokes including cigarillos, cigarettes and cigars. I did not inhale until halfway this period. I can quit for 10 days sometimes more than a month but I keep coming to that cigarillo just puffing it or inhaling two or three drags from a cigarette. I suffer from depression and have tried killing myself, but nicotine makes me feel better. I am tryinng to quit and I will but I just want to know if I have cancer right now. I was at a dentist 5 days ago and he didn't say anything so. What are my chances of getting cancer. more

Resolved Question: Ok, let's be serious here. Who is ready for some serious change?

Whose ready for marijuana to be legalized? Let's be serious here and not take this as a joke. This isn't about whether "Aw dude, I'm gonna blaze up so much when it's legalized". This is more than just smoking yourself to the verge of passing out. No, this is a determinant of whether people can take care of themselves without government intervention. This is about economic implications. I believe in individualism. I believe that people can make choices for themselves. I don't need the government to tell me what's right or what's wrong. There are certain things that are already explicitly wrong such as murder or rape. What about the things one does to their own body? Should this be under the jurisdiction of the federal government? As some of you may know, marijuana has already been decriminalized in several states and California is looking to legalize it to spur it's economy. If California legalizes marijuana, it can look at an extreme boost to it's economy. 2 years, boom, recession in California is done. Over. Caput. People can get back to work. I believe that marijuana should be RElegalized for the following reasons. - People should be able to make their own choices concerning themselves, the government should not tell people what is "good" or "bad" for them. - In November, there has been a milestone. 20 million people have been arrested for marijuana possession since 1937. People who were in jail for minor drug offenses will be let free. More resources could be allocated to capturing real criminals. The amount of arrests have been ridiculously rising recently. - Marijuana is a huge cash crop, actually the number one cash crop in front of corn. Many states like California, their economy will be spurred. - The potential of paper. The Declaration of Independence was made from marijuana. Hemp. The stalk of the plant can be cut and formed into paper without bleaching or harmful chemicals. We also save more trees. -Money from marijuana will go directly into the United States. By people who are buying marijuana, they support the Mexican drug cartels and the drug trade. They give them money. This money is in turn used to kill thousands of people in Mexico. You want to know how many Mexicans died last year from drug cartels? 5,612 people. Dead Mexicans because of the money we're giving them. Mexico has a population of approximately 108,700,891 people. In 2008, 5,612 people, or 1 out of every 19,369 Mexicans, died in the drug war, meaning that the drug war is almost twice as deadly for Mexicans as illicit drugs are for US residents. Does this mean that a US resident’s life is nearly twice as valuable as that of a Mexican? - Marijuana legalization could create new jobs. Growers, distributors, shippers, vendors, dispensaries, the list goes on. - Marijuana has not caused a single death ever, while many people die from alcohol, nicotine, and pharmaceutical drug-related causes a year. - The war on drugs has costs millions of dollars a year, millions of dollars going toward marijuana, and millions of dollars of OUR money! Marijuana is not the gateway drug. The prohibition of marijuana is the reason why so many young people are introduced to a criminal society. It is a fact that if marijuana was legalized usage would not rise. In fact in countries where marijuana is legal usage is around half of that in our own country. Marijuana prohibition causes young people to have disrespect for the law. It is the cause for disrespect to the police. Now, 872,000 americans will criminal records. They will have difficulty getting an education because of it. The saddest part of this is that like you read above, 1 out of 4 of these people are under age 18. 3 out of 4 are under ago 30. I believe the actual prohibition of cannabis is the culprit here. If it was taxed and regulated such as alcohol, then the drug dealers would be out of a job. They don’t care who they sell to. As a matter of fact, I read where there is an estimated 1,000,000 high school student dealers in this country. Why? Kids aren’t dumb and they see that the “mark up” is in the 200-300 percent range while huge profit margins make it impossible to work at Burger King. Not to mention they also have a captive market, five days a week. With all this being said, we have too much at stake here. The prohibition of weed far outweighs the good that can come from this. I don't care if you smoke weed. I don't care if you don't smoke or don't like people that do. This is not about that. This is about change and how our country can stop wasting millions and start a new era of justice, liberty, freedom, anti-discrimination, and economic gain, simply by RElegalizing a plant that was available for centuries. Resolved Question: Should marajuana be legalized?

Here is a link to someone who has answered this question before... http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AukDpB0QO8dSjWF_iTViGJ_W7BR.;_ylv=3?qid=20090429150443AAtd6nh I, personally believe it SHOULD be. Whether I smoke it or not, statistics show that the crime rate would significantly go down... Not to mention the government could tax the hell out of it and make a huge profit off of something that doesn't harm you near as badly as alcohol. A six-pack of beer kills more braincells than an ounce of weed. Yeah, it's probably not the best thing for your lungs, but it doesn't contain nicotine or cyanide like cigarettes do, but guess what? Beer and cigarettes are both legal. All of the "anti-pot" campaigns and PSA's on television make me mad as well... When you smoke pot, you get lazy and hungry. You don't want to jump in your car and drive 120 mph because you feel invincible. You want to sit on your couch, veg out, and watch funny movies. Weed has been prescribed medically not only to cancer and glaucoma patients, but also to some pregnant women who are in high risk pregnancies. It lowers their blood pressure and stress level b/c stress can be very harmful to a baby especially during a high risk pregnancy. That's all the information I've got, but I would love to hear everyone's feedback on this. I do personally think it will be legalized before I die. I'm only 22, so I guess I've got a while to see!In response to vote_usa_first: I COMPLETELY agree with you. (Sorry for my emphasis, but I need to make my point!) My state (OK) just passed a bill to build another county prison b/c the other one is overcrowded and guess why... Nearly 86% of the people there on drug related crimes. If they have an addiction, they should be put in a rehab facility. They will never get help otherwise b/c getting drugs in prison is a lot easier than it sounds. more

Voting Question: Can anyone explain to me the complications when tobacco products are labeled as illegal drugs?

I know, my question is a little bit complicated. But to explain, i really feel that cigarette smoking is really dangerous on various degrees. For example: it is very addictive, and its addiction is caused by a chemical called nicotine, which if taken on large doses, can kill someone. Other than that it works as a drug, it also burns and destroys the lungs, and impairs all other body parts and processes. It also is a pollutant, a fire hazard, and can poison the lungs of other people! Considering these grounds, not only is cigarette smoking dangerous to human welfare, it is also a hazard on environmental safety, and etc. It[smoking] is in fact against an environment-friendly society, regarding its hazards. So i was wondering if cigarette smoking should be banned, that all cigarettes, tobacco and nicotine-related products, be considered as illegal drugs or the like, alongside shabu and marijuana and heroin. And i know, with the power tobacco industries have, and with as well the thousands of smokers around, this act will cause complications, and i want to know how this complications will occur once a government or international organization body declares that such product be illegal and prohibited. I want to understand these potential complications, so can anyone discuss them to me? I want to make a change, you know. If you can, please contact me on the following, so that we could have a discussion on the matter: exodus.d3rd@ymail.com daniel.ronson42@yahoo.com for philippine residents or those who have access: 09066945596 please help me in making this world a better place! more

Resolved Question: Killing ants in a flower bed question?

I just went out to water my new transplanted pansies and violas to discover them covered by black ants. It looks as if the 12 inch by 36 flower bed is the ant hill now. How do I safely rid the ants without killing my flowers? I looked up the following methods, but fear they will make my plants ill or even kill them. Thought? Ideas? Pipe tobacco method 1. Purchase pipe tobacco from your local store. 2. Soak it in warm water overnight. 3. Use gloves. See warnings below. 4. Decant the liquid and throw away the soggy tobacco. 5. Pour the liquid over the anthill - they overdose on nicotine and die. 6. Follow the trail of ants to determine where they come into the house. 7. Locate the holes, fill the holes with soap or white glue. 8. Apply baby powder on the trail of ants. Ants that come in contact with the powder will die soon. 9. Apply more baby powder or red pepper to kill the remaining ants. After they are dead, sweep away the ants and excess powder or red pepper. 10. If ants enter the house from the windows, use chalk around the window frame. You will be amazed to see how they move away from any chalk lines! more

Resolved Question: How did you manage to quit smoking?

I want to quit smoking. I've tried several times before but the longest I've ever lasted was 1 week. My husband has agreed to quit with me but the last time we tried that we nearly killed each other. Resolved Question: When will the government tax non-smokers because they are collecting less cigarette tax?

Isn't this kind of like "killing the golden goose" to raise cigarette taxes so high that most people are forced to quit? From Yahoo News: However they satisfy their nicotine cravings, tobacco users are facing a big hit as the single largest federal tobacco tax increase ever takes effect Wednesday. Tobacco companies and public health advocates, longtime foes in the nicotine battles, are trying to turn the situation to their advantage. The major cigarette makers raised prices a couple of weeks ago, partly to offset any drop in profits once the per-pack tax climbs from 39 cents to $1.01. Medical groups see a tax increase right in the middle of a recession as a great incentive to help persuade smokers to quit. Tobacco taxes are soaring to finance a major expansion of health insurance for children. President Barack Obama signed that health initiative soon after taking office. more

Voting Question: Is it true that there is cyanide in cigarettes?

I know there are 4,000 chemicals in cigarettes, including ammonia, rat poison, tar, etc.. But do they really put cyanide in them? I'd never consider smoking. In fact, I think it should be banned because of the cancer risks. Haha, I hate cancer.. And if it's true (that they put cyanide in them) why? Why would they put cyanide in cigarettes? It doesn't seem to serve any purpose at all, besides to kill people. Some chemicals they put in for a reason (ex: Nicotine, so that people are addicted to them) but cyanide just.. doesn't seem to serve a purpose. O.oSo, there is cyanide in them but they don't purposely put it there? more

Resolved Question: Which has killed the most people, Cigarettes or Marijuana?

Is it even close? I'm in my seventies. I started smoking 40 cigarettes a day in the fifties. In the sixties, many of my friends smoked Marijuana but I never even tried it out of fear. I had tried to quit cigarettes several thousand times and failed. It took me over forty years to quit. I have had many of my friends die from cigarettes but none from marijuana. Most of them still smoke a joint or two, every few months. Do many people know that they still spray tobacco leaves with Arsenic? Arsenic is not only poisonous, it is highly addictive. Much more so than Nicotine. more

Resolved Question: is Marijuana bad for you?

•Gateway to other drugs? Yes this is true, those who have tried and liked weed have a greater chance of trying other harmful drugs. •Bad for your heath? No, Marijuana is not bad for you, however it is not good for you ether. Anything sucked into your lungs that’s not oxygen or air can harm your lungs. However your lungs have built in filters, they clean themselves slowly. If you accidentally breathe in some dust from a sand storm do you think that it stays in your lungs for the rest of your life? •Marijuana has thousands of chemicals? Yes, now this seems scary, but did you know that the coffee you drink every morning has almost the same amount!?! •Alcohol and cigarettes are worse? YES, yes, yes, yes, there have been no recorded deaths from marijuana. Unlike alcohol and cigarettes which kill millions of people each and every year. •Can screw up your life? Well… yes this is somewhat true… but it is not the marijuana that screws up your life, it’s (sounding like a hippy) the damn government. Since marijuana (a harmless depressant) is illegal, if you’re caught you will be thrown in jail, once you’re thrown in jail it’s hard to obtain a job, no job, no money no money can’t support a family, life ruined. If marijuana was legal you would have been just fine? Right? •Legalization of marijuana? Good idea right? If its legal then no one will be thrown in jail and have there life messed up. Yes this is true no one will be thrown in jail but remember that marijuana in a gateway to other addicting – make you a vegetable harmful – drugs. So with marijuana illegal many people are not even trying it so then supposedly there not trying other dangerous drugs. Overall less vegetable people •Addicting? For some yes and some no, but it’s all about how often and how much. Hell you can get addicted to just about anything including water!!! So then the question is how easy is it to get addicted to marijuana? Well compared to cigarettes it’s not that easy; marijuana is usually a mental addiction v.s. a physical addiction. Mental addiction is like potato chips, you have one you want another, it tasted good, but you’ll be just fine without another one. Physical addiction is like the addiction you get from the magic cancer sticks (cigarettes) where when you try to stop, you feel sick, your muscles ache, your depressed, have head aches, everything around you pisses you off, you don’t care about anything, your tired, stubborn, and the list goes on. Then once you take that one hit of nicotine (active ingredient in cigarettes) it all goes away, you feel great. However remember that the more you smoke marijuana the better looking that potato chip will become more and more until it really feels like a physical addiction, when all you can think about is the next joint. But this would only happen after years of smoking constantly. •Moderation? With the knowledge of the real dangers of other drugs, marijuana can be well enjoyed in moderation, just like alcohol. Not so much cigarettes. There is no such thing as moderation for cigarettes. •Increases the risk of heart attack? Yes it may, may being the key word there, however many things cause hard attack such as coffee, a well known and enjoyed beverage though out the world. Heart attacks (at lest this is what a doctor told me) are cause by your blood cells becoming too hard, eventually they become so hard that your heart can no longer pump them… thus a heart attack. •Bad marijuana? YES! If you buy marijuana, be sure you know where it’s been and how it was grown. You will have no idea that you’re breathing in some dangerous stuff. •Destroys social life? This is back to moderation. In scientific studies the people that are tested are highly abusive smokers, every day every minuet, as much as they can get. If these people were using alcohol instead of marijuana, they wouldn’t be able to move, drive, walk, talk, ANYTHING. So this is all about moderation. •Bottom line? Research before hand, even on the simplest things. And if you want to smoke marijuana ether wait till its legal or smoke where you are 120% sure you won’t be caught. And remember moderation! this is my research tell me what you think is wrong... more

Resolved Question: Japanese Action Movie?

I am trying to think of the name of a japanese movie. Its pretty recent. I saw it on IFC. It's a Yakuza-like movie. It involves two assassins trying to kill each other, trying to prove which one is better. Some of the scenes that I remember are that one assassin injects nicotine to kill someone; in one of the final scene, I think the two assassins are in a warehouse with firehouse; and, later on the other assassin's girlfriend tells a cop that her boyfriend was dead when he really wasn't. If you actually understand what I am talking about, what is the name of this movie. more

Voting Question: America or the Middle-East? Who's the bad guy here?

What's the point of calling the Middle-East situation disgusting when we're the ones killing millions of innocent civilians? We're so quick to criticize Muslims in the Middle-East, but they just want us the hell out. What they're protesting isn't freedom, Christianity, blasphemy, or anything else. They know we're only there for oil, and they want us gone. Would you give up your life to rid America of an oppressive foreign military force that nobody wants here, and wants to, say, harvest and export all our corn? Follow that up with not being able to turn your head in the street without seeing a small army of armed guards. How's that sound? Of course there is some distorted ideological reasoning from their end, but it's certainly not the seller. It only seems that way because the media has brainwashed the masses into hating Muslims and the Middle-East in general (oh, except that harmless, angelic Israel). More people are killed by nicotine-related causes in the US every single day than the total number of fatalities from 9/11, and we've been mindlessly bombing villages on a whim, or at least due to sketchy intelligence. Who's disgusting again? (For the record, I'm an atheist in California.)This is more of a Politics question, but it's still relevant to this section and I'd like to examine the perspectives of you kind folks here.Laharl is on the right track.I said millions just to throw a number out there; it's probably in the hundreds of thousands, as if that fact makes it any better. more

Voting Question: Does smoking weed give you lung cancer?

Do not answer if you are not sure. I have smoked both and marijuana seems to be better to smoke. Cigarettes contain tar, which is pretty harmful stuff if you let it accumulate after years of smoking. Marijuana (Cannibis) does not contain tar, doesn't contain nicotine (what gets you addicted to cigarettes). Does marijuana actually kill you? I think people think it does but I cannot see a reason why smoking it will kill you. Cigarettes kill you because of the tar and all the other crap they put into cigarettes. more

Resolved Question: My sister's essay? Could you edit it to make it "sparkle" [is the word she used!?

The use of tobacco from the teens in the US is way too towering. The NHIS 2003 National Center for Health Statistics says that in the US 43.3% of the people are smokers, 19.2% women and 24.1% men. Why are the numbers up so high? I say because the pressure on the young teens is incredibly high. When our teens are pressured to use drugs they usually do not consider about how it will influence their life in the future, they are concerned about what others would think of them. If I were pressured to use tobacco, I would think about how is it going to affect my body, how is this going to affect my life, how will it affect others around me, how will I feel? If everyone would think about these questions, we would have this crisis off our shoulders. If we were to stop selling tobacco products, we would have less cancer, sickness, and health issues. Although we would be taking away money from the tobacco companies and from the doctors that treat the tobacco users but, we would put the danger down of losing lives. If we make all tobacco products against the law, then we have another drug we have to keep others away from like crack/cocaine, marijuana, inhalants, ecstasy, methamphetamine/meth, LSD, and heroin. We would have more drug dealers and lawbreakers if this were to happen. Although we would have less lives at risk. The American Lung Association said; that almost 6,000 teens under the age of 18 start smoking, 2,000 of these become regular smokers. If we were to take away tobacco products we would have those high numbers gone. Would that be nice? How do we get our teens out of the atmosphere of tobacco use? One, they should have a good environment at home, a place where there is time with family and parents that are in touch with their children’s lives. Two, they should have a safe environment at school too. If the teachers know what the children are going through with friends, there would be less difficulty there. Third, when our teens are just out with their friends, they should feel okay saying “no” to their friends when tempted to use tobacco products. The health of our new generation is at risk too. With Second-Hand-Smoke, children are not even smoking and the smokers are killing them. We have to stop this. How? We can start helping more people who smoke by setting up more treatment centers to help those who want to live a smoke-free life. We need to stop this addiction to nicotine. All these people are dying because they made wrong choice when they were young. We can talk to teenagers more about how treacherous this is. What if everyone had a goal in life, to never use or be around anyone who is using tobacco products? Our world would have one more thing off its list of troubles. I have a goal in life. It is to NEVER use or touch tobacco products. I will not even be around with people who use tobacco, that way I will never have to worry about Second-Hand Smoke, or being tempted to use tobacco. We need a change. thanks!!! :D more

Resolved Question: Can I smoke on Outward Bound?

I'm planning on going on a 22 day Outward Bound program in the Sierras this summer, but I'm very much dependent on nicotine. I'll be in the 16-18 age group program, and by the time I leave will be 18. I won't be in the "at risk youth" (aka rehab) program. Please don't give me some lecture about how smoking will kill me or how I should use this time to quit or anything like that, I have heard it over and over again before and that is not what I'm asking. Resolved Question: Just finished composing these lyrics I wrote two weeks ago, tell me what you think?

Well, I started writing maybe three Sundays ago and this is one of the first raps I actually wrote, but I just now decided to compose it into verses. Rate it, comment, give feedback, hate on it, whatever. I wanted to do it Nas' Slave and the Master instrumental but you can recommend one if you don't like that one. Verse One: They lack of shape and vision, I'm on a mission, no more time for These games, so I close my eyes and arrange this blind contour Takin' hip hop under my wings surrounding it like a condor Circling in high degrees to bring it back here's the encore Emcees dropping a lack of philosophy, it's got to be Getting' rid of this bullshit it's haunting me So I'm ghost busting psychologically the good I uplift But when I drift sucka emcees can go down in my gift If they can't swim they'll drown when I riff Turn to stone now they sound kind of stiff I sit as the words swerve, into the margin they merge And splurge, I urge my thoughts to get up and fly like birds So, they come and just fly away, stop and play on the page As they lay and now I'm ready to take the stage To sway, opinion on this Hip-Hip of today To make sure it's leaving never and forever it's here to stay. Verse Two: I'm a fiend for the game like nicotine, got no pain No strain, as I flow through this sh*t so plain Styles efficient, eyes to wise to risk it Files flying, so fast by, you'll f*ckin' miss it But I don't miss the facts and exacts I'm pissed The fakeness in rap is a map for the whole thing a diss More like a long list of "wis" and no "dom" but dumb and no sense From but none sent, it just sums and the stealing to so tense The music I ain't feeling the way I was when we were children The industry is killing the man must be a villain They should have to do time for the crime that they drilling Got my brain imprisoned for all the death they spilling I know it's not just me what I hear stop it please It burns when it touches my ears like disease They dropping STDs, it must be their plans Let's wipe out Hip-Hop quit and start with the fans Verse Three: But here I come with resurrections propelled in the right directions Healing every single section with my styles and affections Starting with rappers acting cocky thinking they can stop me I come though stocky and get nasty like Luca Brasi After I attack the weak links I think its time To go after the man who's corrupting their mind Out comes my flavor and I do the b-boys a favor Killing off the stranger who's putting out all that danger Face to face with the man (now), with the pen in my hand (child) The game I demand and alone I will stand (fowl) I'm just taking back the game from the imperial radar Darth Vader, I'm the savor with the miracle saber Of mic not light, but either way it's a fight Of stars and the wars is going to end right tonight more
