Resolved Question: Hard puzzle!?!?!?!?!?

Nikki, Mikey, Akeem, Katie and Davey have all entered a mathematics competition. In each round of the competition, the entrants were put into pairs as far as possible (if there were an odd number of participants, all but one would be paired) and answered a set of questions at the same time as their opponent. The winner was the entrant who gave correct answers to most of the questions. The winner got two points, one point was awarded for a draw and zero points for a loss. Every entrant played another entrant exactly once. As we know, Nikki, Mikey, Akeem, Katie and Davey are all very good mathematicians, and they were delighted to find that they had all won the competition with the same score. In fact they had all dropped only 4 points. All of the other entrants only scored 4 points. When the judges examined the results, there had been no draws. How many points did Nikki, Mikey, Akeem, Katie and Davey all score? When they met their friends Sophie, Stevie, Sabina, Marge and Chrissie, they discovered that they had been in a different group of entrants for the same competition. The friends admitted that they had dropped four times as many points even though they all scored the same number, but they noted that in their round the other entrants also scored exactly the same number of points as they had each dropped. Davey thought that there were the same number of entrants in each round, so he said that he was sorry that his friends were not through to the next round, but, Sophie said that they too got through. How many entrants were in their round? welcome news: you wrote this As we know, Nikki, Mikey, Akeem, Katie and Davey are all very good mathematicians, and they were delighted to find that they had all won the competition with the same score. In fact they had all dropped only 4 points. All of the other entrants only scored 4 points. From the above the only possible solution is that each person played each other person in the group and won two matches and lost two matches. They also won all their matches against the other players. each of the other players got 4 points: they must have therefore won two matches. This suggests that there are 5 other players each of whcih won two and lost two of their matches between themselves. Since each of the friends beat the other 5 players (scoring 10 points) and beat two of their own friends (scoring 4 points) they must have all scored 14 points. For the second group each of them lost 16 points: As they (presumably) lost 4 points playing each other then they must have lost 12 points playing the other competitors (a total of 60 points or 30 games) (this means there must have been at least 6 others) suppose there are n other people. The total number of points scored between them is n^2-n so the total including the friends is n^2-n+60 and this must equal 16.n So : n^2 -n + 60 = 16n OR: n^2 -17n + 60 = 0 or (n-5)(n-12) = 0 giving n = 5 or n = 12. However we know that n>5 so n= 12 So the total entrants was 17 Please could you explain fully how you did this part: how did you get 60??Please explain fully! suppose there are n other people. However we know that n>5 so n= 12 So the total entrants was 17 thanks more

Voting Question: Have you heard of 'The Darwin Choice'?

'The Darwin Choice' is a project which is focused on sustaining human life on the planet. It's considered the most humane and natural way to choose those who will carry on human life into the future. The Darwin Choice has already been initiated with the release of a virus into our society. This virus has two names 'The Darwin Virus' or 'The Virus of Attrition.' It was released in order to reduce the total human population on the earth. The DV mutates quick enough that it can't be stopped yet not so quick that it causes major panic among the societies it affects. It does increase in strength with each mutation as Darwin's theory would support. With each mutation the toll it takes on the human race worldwide increases. It is designed to take out a predetermined percentage of the total world population. This virus is different than most viruses as it has been reverse engineered. Which means rather than evolving into something new it revolves into something which has already been discovered. Scientists started with a basic harmless virus and de-evolved it backwards into previous evolutionary states which were more harmful. The current virus which is developing in deadliness is in fact nothing new to this earth. It is sort of like bring back a Neanderthal. Of course, we know what the Neaderthal eventually becomes. Despite all the havoc this current virus is causing, there are those who know its ultimate destiny and the time span it will take to reach that state. The taboo question of overpopulation which world leaders fail to address is not being ignored. Now that you know, how do you feel about this choice of selection being used to resolve the certain end of the planet as we know it? Human population will be halfed over some period into the future and so will our problems. No one has known natural immunity to this virus so in a way it is pure nature and evolution at work. We all have equal chances of survival but the truth is we may not be one of the chosen ones. The ones chosen by nature a.k.a God. Thoughts?Everyday we chose to spend our money for enjoyment rather than for saving other peoples lives around the world. We are always playing God. If you are trying to save someone from drowning and that person is going to cause you to drown, what should you do? Drown or let go of the person drowning and live? Right now we are all going to die due to the fact that we are destroying the planet. The Darwin Choice will stop the end of mankind and in fact the death of the natural world we live in now. We can live or die. more

Resolved Question: Pregnant and a super high pulse rate like 150s-160s. Any one know what might be causing this?

So I am on my second pregnancy, almost 30 weeks now. I had the racing heart and pulse with the first one but it went unnoticed though i complained the whole time. Two weeks ago I decided to actually have them do my blood pressure standing (thinking this was the problem) and it came back fine like 120/78 ? cant remember, but my pulse was 142 just standing less than one minute. So this week I walked to the room (about 2 minutes on my feet) and had my pulse done, and it was 158. Now i KNOW that it goes over that because I wasn't feeling as bad as I do every day. So other than the obvious, my pulse is high (which i just discovered) I see the spots/flashing lights, get light headed very easy, out of breath feel extreemly weak or nauseous after short walks or exertions of energy. These feelings go away with sitting down and drinking lots of water. The longer I am up or push it the longer it takes to recover. 10 minutes of exertion takes about 30 minutes of recovery. It feels equal to a very bad low sugar attack. I don't know my blood pressure without being pregnant, is it possible to be early stages of preeclampsia before the high BP kicks in? My last pregnancy I did the horrible sudden swelling to the point where I could not walk just 1 week before delivery but I didn't know it was a problem then and I waited it out. Now looking back at pictures I was VERY puffy in my face with my first and I think I had it at the end. I know this is long but its not a cut and dry case so I am trying to put all the info in. These next two weeks I am going to be going through a battery of tests as my doctor is very concerned, but not as concerned as I am becoming. I feel like my heart is going to explode sometimes! Thank you everyone, looking for some conditions someone may have heard about or experienced the same, not just crazy guesses lol Thanks more

Resolved Question: Black moor exhibiting strange eating behavior--?

I recently moved my beautiful black moor, Google, into a bigger tank because my parents had been keeping him in a one gallon tank with horrible water condition while I was away at school. At first I had some concerns about his health, including white spots on his front fins and head (which I later discovered were actually breeding stars), some fin and body damage (likely caused by trauma from his old filter, which had a tendency to float and expose rough edges) and what appeared to be problems with his swimming bladder (floating vertical on the surface with his tail sticking up). Fortunately, he seems to be improving rapidly with the new aquarium and better water quality. Tonight, though, he exhibited some strange eating behaviors that I've never seen from him. I gave him the usual amount of pellets and as soon as they hit the surface he attacked them as though he were ravenous, like he hadn't eaten in days. Confused, I gave him some more which he consumed with equal ferocity. He probably ate four times the usual amount of pellets by the time he was satisfied. I have no idea what could have caused this interesting feeding, because I have personally fed him every night for the weeks that I've been home. He doesn't at all appear to have lost weight since being in his other bowl. What could elicit such behavior from a goldfish? Could it have anything to do with his increased level of activity in his new tank? Could this be a sign of a more serious problem I should look out for? Should I increase his pellets? Any help would be greatly appreciated. more

Resolved Question: What do you think of my philosephy?

There are nights when you just cant sleep. This is one of those nights for me, the time is currently 3:00 am. I have drivers Ed in the morning. But im not too worried about that. All im worried about is if I’ll have enough time to write all of my “early morning thoughts” down before the sun shows itself. I have dreams, as everyone else does. But my dreams are different. My dreams show me stuff that I need to do, my desires which eventualy ill have to fulfill or die trying. I had a dream once, unlike any other. I met a girl. She was unlike any other girl I have ever met. Not quite sure how. Maybe it was her essence. Essence is a powerful thing, as is atmosphere. Without atmosphere everything would feel the same. If everything felt the same than we would not feel the need to be different. Thus, we would all be the same. Anyways, this girl and I talked. I cant remember exactly what we talked about, but all I know is that it was important. And ever since ive had that dream, my subconcious mind is drawn to anything that remotly reminds me of that girl. About three years ago I discovered the secret of free will. Free will is indeed a gift from God, but you have to earn it. You have to realize exactly what free will is to earn it. How I figured it out is unknown to me. But one day I just realized everything. I realized what everything was and why it was what it was. And I realized I could change it, if I wanted too. You could too, just realize. Just realize. I recently found out that I have two sibling I never knew I had. Matt and Eleese. My dad never told me about them, this bothered me deeply. Maybe even scarred me. For life? Perhaps. Im very good at reading people’s emotions. My friends tell me I should be a therepist. I tell them that if I were a therepist I would just be telling people things they should figure out on their own because they will eventualy forget what I taught them. They’’ll come back and say they need help again. When in reality, they just want to hear what the pure truth sounds like. Truth is also a powerfull thing, as is essence. The essence of truth is a force not to be reckoned with. As is God and his word. Im a true believer of God. Everything happens for a reason, that reason may not be a good or bad reason. May not even be either. A tornado occurs, 27 people die. The reason, a butterfly flapped its wings a certain number of times causing a domino effect. Just one thing after another. Just one thing after another. Im glad to finaly get all of this out of my head. Its been getting heavy. Back to the subject on free will.. You have to realize that life is a joker. It tries to play with you. As I always say, “when life gives you crap what do you do? You give life the bird and say “is that all you got?””. Do not threaten life. Life is a powerful thing. Life can do what it wants. It will point it’s horrible finger at your head and give you a brain tumor. Out of absolutely no where. Does anybody know where I got that? The sentence about the brain tumor? I got it from the most powerful book I have ever read. I suggest you read it too. You can control your life though, for the most part at least. The mind. It is a thing that can be shapen at your will, which as previously stated you need to realize that you have. Whe nyou think happy thoughts, naturaly more things will make you happy. More things making you happy equals more happy things happening. Same goes with all other emotions on the emotional spectrum. I have much, much more to let out, but im afraid if I let it all out at once I wont be able to let anymore out wothout driving my self insane. It’s hard to explain. Btw im 15. I would like to go into writing class when school starts, but i wanted to see what you all thought first. Thanks, G. Michael M.Only some of it is philosophy. The rest is stuff i needed to get out. more

Voting Question: How to create great people?

Hi there everyone; hi fellow American citizens; and hello to all philosophers, I have one question to ask all of you: how do you create great people? I will elaborate my ideals more in detail in the following: I am 16 years old right now -- ripe at the age in which one discovers their personal values and is starting to open up their mind, ready to absorb the teachings of life. And that has happened to me. I've recently been vigorously studying philosophy, literature, history and many other things similar. And what has severely influenced me has made me decide something: I want to create a breed of super stellar humans. Now people, calm down. I know and am aware of the professors that have told us that all humans are equal and the only differences we have are our skulls (mongoloid, negroid, caucasoid). But it's not that I wan to create a breed of physical super humans, its that I want to create a breed of people that have extreme values. My philosophy is a mix of Confucian, Militarist, Facist, Taoist, Conservative, Darwinist and above all Christian Values. (And yes, I am a Christian). I want my future children to have Jesus and God as number one in their life. But aside from the spiritual relationships, I want my children to be loyal to the government; jingoistic, patriotic, and willing to die for America. Not only that, I want the best for my Children -- I want them to become super stellar students; at least capable of attending an Ivy League College and being multi-lingual. Are these not great ideals? Are these not great future ways to produce great children which, in the future will reap great fortune for the generations of the past? I believe these values will deeply contribute to America and the Family. Individualism is nothing; the State and Family is everything. more

Resolved Question: If US has equality, why is there a gender gap in health insurance?

Gender gap discovered in health insurance: Women pay more for individual plans:http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20081030/news_1n30insure.html According to the article: "Insurers say they have a sound reason for charging different premiums: Women ages 19 to 55 tend to cost more than men because they typically use more health care, especially in the childbearing years. But women still pay more than men for insurance that does not cover maternity care. In the individual market, maternity coverage may be offered as an optional benefit, or rider, for a hefty additional premium." Whats the difference in what women vs men have to pay for health coverage? According the article above: "The disparities are evident in premiums charged by major insurers like Humana, UnitedHealth, Aetna and Anthem, a unit of WellPoint; in prices quoted by eHealth, a leading online source of health insurance; and in rate tables published by state high-risk pools, which offer coverage to people who cannot obtain private insurance. Humana, for example, says its Portrait plan offers “ideal coverage for people who want benefits like those provided by big employers.” For a Portrait plan with a $2,500 deductible, a 30-year-old woman pays 31 percent more than a man of the same age in Denver or Chicago and 32 percent more in Tallahassee, Fla." Recent Economic affects on women: COBRA's High Cost Bites Into Jobless Safety Net, especially for women, who have to pay more for individual health insurance: http://www.womensenews.org/article.cfm?aid=4041 Research Study results: Nowhere to Turn: How the Individual Health Insurance Market Fails Women: http://action.nwlc.org/site/PageNavigator/nowheretoturn_Report So why the gender gap in health insurance, if equality is here in the US? I keep hearing how feminism isn't needed in the US or the West, we're all supposedly equal now. What gives?I don't have kids, never had them, and won't have them, so why do I have to pay higher health insurance rates-why don't I get the rates men do? So does this mean, based on your answers, that we can stop hearing about gender gaps in auto insurance rates that men pay, since this gender gap in health insurance rates doesn't matter? Ok, glad I won't have to hear about that ever again.FYI: Don't want any of these, and in the US, these are elective surgeries, meaning, they are not covered by a health insurance plan and the individual has to pay for all of this stuff themselves: breast augmentation and vaginal cosmetic surgeries (ewww). Never had a hysterectomy or a tubal hon-I"d look for any way to avoid both of those surgeries as well. I've had my tonsils out though, when I was 5. That is probably why I'm paying such high health insurance costs. more

Voting Question: Secrets of the LEO'S inner self Discovered, use it for your advantage.........................................?

Leo is also known as the Royal Sign of the Zodiac and these natives are proud souls who place courage and personal honesty above all else. Others may not always live up to the expectations of Leo individuals and thus, the life of a Leo subject is constantly subject to disappointments. Nonetheless, those governed by this Sign possess a radiant warmth which touches the hearts of friends and admirers. The Leo personality will open many doors throughout life and these natives welcome both authority and responsibility. This is the Sign of exuberance and idealism, denoting a powerful personality. However, as well as being high-minded, Leo subjects can also be high-handed and when they fall victim to their own shortcomings, the result can be nothing less than disastrous. Being impulsive, generous and brave, these natives are quick to follow their own intuition. Personal success is often furthered by the marked influence of those ruled by Leo upon all inviduals that they meet. Indeed, Leo subjects often win over opponents through the force of sheer magnetism. However, if such efforts are misdirected, then the result could easily be false idealism and the Leo benefactor is sometimes only a whisper away from turning into a tyrant. With a desire to "charter their own course," individuals governed by Leo follow through on this with an inherent vigor. They like anything which is active...including outdoor life...for Leo subjects crave the warmth of the Sun which is so predominant in this Zodiac Sign. They adore being in the spotlight...possibly because it is perceived as a miniature version of the beloved Sun...and seek out appreciation and affection with a zest equal to the manner in which they bestow these upon others. Nonetheless, Leo subjects will never fail to form their own conclusions and rarely give a thought to whether such a conclusion is right or wrong. In short, those ruled by Leo are prone to ride over their own faults so naturally that apparently, they are not even aware of such faults. In fact, the very exuberance of a Leo subject can manifest itself in the form of a show-off...but he or she will doubtless feel above any such criticism. Thus, when Leo natives honestly believe they are right, it is assumed that all critics must necessarily be wrong. The type of love associated with those who fall under the jurisdiction of Leo is that which embraces the whole of humanity yet, this can present a danger in that Leo individuals are prone to diffuse such love and are often blind to where it is most needed...frequently closer that these natives might think. The nature here is inherently simple for Leo subjects are open in speech and can be rather tactless...a trait which those who form friendships with Leo subjects come to recognize as being symbolic of the honesty associated with this Sign. However, this self-same quality also easily garners enemies. To the Leo native, diplomacy is tantamount to guile...a trait which is personally detested but which the Leo individual often learns how to use. The worst fault of those ruled by Leo is that they can become very narrow-minded and bigoted, largely due to the fact that personal convictions are settled early in life and rarely become changed or modified at a later time. In addition, the greatest drawback to the Leo personality is likely to be indolence. They will revel in ease and luxury until they are forced into action either through necessity or due to their own self-imposed demands. It is the Leo strength of will, energy and vigor which make these individuals one of the best types to lead in the world. The males possess soldierly qualities and the females are dignified and regal...especially after the "first flush of youth." There is a marked predilection here for all that flashes and glitters, coupled with the wisdom to realize that "all that glitters is not gold," making Leo natives usually successful in matters regarding monetary gain. In short, Leo subjects (particularly the males) make great leaders...for good or ill. The ambition inherent in this Sign is immense with a strength of will which matches or even surpasses this characteristic. Leo individuals appear...and usually are...humanistic by nature but, on a more negative note, often seem to display a streak of ruthlessness. Those governed by Leo will always stand ready to defend friends and family and the power of this Sign can override almost anything. Leo individuals rarely display jealousy...rather, they tend to invite it, thus throwing the burden upon their critics. However, these natives are easily flattered and often make the mistake of trusting false friends. Being accustomed to gaining results through personality and charm, these individuals are above anything petty but, if they find themselves slipping, will justify whatever measures they deem required in order to to retain what they feel is rightfully theirs. At their most glorious, Leo subjects are big-hearted, passionate and generoussouls, appreciative of loyalty and sincerity while withholding nothing of themselves...possibly because these individuals cannot abide hypocrisy or deceipt in others. They are devoted to high ideals, being honorable, conscientious, courageous and daring. In short, they live for the moment, savoring life to the fullest. However, for all these Leo virtues, its natives must strive to overcome an imposing dark side and those who fail to dispel the shadows may well become demanding, domineering, insensitive and destructive. This dark side of Leo can lead to a drowning of the individual in egocentricity and materialism, coupled with a lack of both the desire and capacity for spiritual development. In such circumstances, it will be necessary for the Leo subject to endeavor to avoid the type of exaggeration which can debase the many gifts inherent in this Sign.In business, persons ruled by Leo offer unlimited prospects. They excel in the field of medicine due to the influence they hold upon their patients and succeed in many other professions courtesy of the inherent flair for showmanship, which can sway clients with the same type of effectiveness that will sway an audience. These individuals are also noted for their talents in the acting and literary arenas since they have a strong trend toward the dramatic. In addition, anything requiring promotion or enthusiastic development falls withing the domain of Leo natives for these are capable individuals whose enthusiasm is contagious.Indeed, those who fall under the jurisdiction of Leo are difficult to dislike since there is usually something about them which is exceedingly warming. The fiery Leo temperament is typical of the element by which they are ruled and these are frank, open, honest and very endearing souls. The warmth spread by Leo individuals will always pay dividends and to achieve their highest aims, these natives will need allies, collaborators, friends and backers. In short, Leo subjects were born to lead in whatever the chosen sphere might be, but they must be sure to choose that sphere very carefully. The secret fear of Leo subjects is that they will not be perceived as important individuals. In general, however, this is an affectionate Sign complete with a lively and sunny personality which brings joy and life to any dull day.The Leo man is often a happy individual...warm-hearted, devil-may-care and prone to be rather a show-off at times. This is a male possessed with drive, ambition and virtually limitless courage. For no apparent reason, he is liable to bring his mate a thoughtful gift one day and then totally forget the birthday which falls the following week. Given the chance, he has the inherent capability to play the role of eternal sweetheart. As a partner, he is willing to make his entire life revolve around the partner of choice...although this may not necessarily put a stop to the roving of his twinkling eye. In short, there will never be a dull moment with this man. He likes his mate to be admired and noticed by others and enjoys being seen out and about with his loved one. As a father, he takes pleasure in playing games with his children but is prone to roar when they go too far, promptly dispatching them off to bed and blaming his partner for the lack of discipline. In essence, this is a lovable but maddening male who is both passionate and insistent. The wealthy Leo man is often something of a playboy and may appear to take nothing seriously, which can be intensely irritating. The man governed by Leo can fit into the scheme of domestic life quite smoothly. Usually, he is a good and very generous provider who is tremendously proud of himself and his family. His desire for his family is the best of everything and his personal wish is to reign supreme at center stage. This is a loving and devoted soul, but one who refuses to tolerate disrespect and insubordination. The Leo male is something of a law unto himself and if he chooses to pursue romance outside of the home, then he will do so without scruple...but his attitude toward life is such that he would never suffer the same behavior from a partner.Still, acute judges of character and fastidious to a fault, the Leo male invariably selects a mate who meets his high standard of perfection and the situation never arises. The man ruled by Leo is essentially generous, kind and loyal...to say nothing of his truly great heart. more

Resolved Question: Is my story any good?

"Megan looked upon the black mass that was before her. Was this real? A trick? A joke? No. Her eyes were true, and her mind frozen. Before her stood a steed as broad as a cavern and as mighty as a great Titan of Old. Its cold blue eyes seemed to leer into longing as it surveyed the great white moonlight that scanned its earthly neighbour. Its tail floated in midair, camouflaged against the great black skin of the colossal steed. Great and beautiful though it was, Megan felt a great decline in approaching it. Its evil seemed to overcome all that was around, as though the horse was the source for all the cold of the night. In all its terribleness, never would Megan have thought to see such a sight mounting the horse. Mounted on the back of the terrible steed was woman in equal caliber to the beast. Both striking and horrifying, the lady of the horse seemed to be longing a burning desire. She wore brilliant silver light armour, with a divine golden bow on her back, and wore pristine slippers that appeared to leave a trail behind her as she circled her feet around the side her stallion. The Lady’s black eyes appeared empty, as though her very soul was incomplete with longing. Her hair glistened in the moonlight, the fiery redness magnified by the great pearl of the sky; like the flow of a bloody river, or the fibre of a stray rose petal. A green mist seemed to surround the face of the Lady, which added to her wickedness and beauty. The nearby trees saluted her as she stood mighty and tall with her steed, an acknowledgment of her power from the very roots of the Earth. Around her nature seemed to bow, a queenly visitor to the world of insignificance, a heavenly gift. Although unarmed, the Lady of the Horse was inclined for war, as though a leader of a rebellion. A rebellion against whom? The mass of laypeople of the Earth? Or perhaps the foundations of life itself… Megan remained frozen, her feet crucified to the soil. So this is what had continued to call her during the dead of night, an angel? A spirit? A memory? Petrified yet curious, Megan crept forward to explore further the nature of this alien being. Step by step, she edged closer to the clearing in which her vision waited. Her legs seemed to oppose her every intention, and a great struggle between heart and mind erupted inside of her. But the forest was silent. Trying not to breath, she crept behind a tree, hoping her uncanny sleekness would disguise her from the ghostly creature that awaited her destiny. Every hair on her body stood to attention, silence. Did the Lady know she was there? Was she listening to her drumming heart? Had she been discovered? Clip, clop, clip, clop. Boom, boom, boom, boom. Megan’s pulse seemed to mirror that of the horse’s footsteps. But why was the horse moving? Perhaps it had seen something hiding in the trees, interrupting the ghostly ritual of the Lady. How could she know? It felt as though the Lady was intruding on Megan’s very thoughts, a private interceptor of the relay of her mind. " This is just out of my head, has been in my head for some time this image. I would appreciate it if you could give it a read and tell me your opinions, good and bad or impartial are all appreciated greatly!!! more

Voting Question: i read this book when i was a sophmore, but forget the title, its similar to 1984?

it takes place in the future and everything must be absolutely equal, and you cannot love yourself or another individual, only society. There is no technology because technology makes life easier and provides pleasure, and if something provides you pleasure that means you are thinking about yourself and not society. there are no mirrors, all the guys live in barracks, one day are assigned a job,and work that job for the rest of their lives. The main character is like a trash collector and falls in love with this girl working in the field, even though love is illegal and the punishment is to be burned alive. Also he discovers like this abandoned hole in the ground where he plays around and invents things. eventually he rediscovered electricity and made a potato powered lamp. he showed the lamp to like the elders or something and they thought it was evil and sentenced him to death. he ran away into the woods and saw his reflection for the first time in a puddle, eventually the girl somehow finds him, they find an abandoned house from our time and raised a family in it and i think even started a new society or something. Anyway i love this book, i love how the human spirit cant be put down and love of freedom and love of another caused him to do what seamed impossible. please tell me the title of this story! more

Resolved Question: Okay so I have a poker riddle can anyone help me find the answer?

Two men play a game of draw poker in the following curious manner. The spread a deck of 52 cards face up on the table so that they can see all the cards. The first player draws a hand by picking any five cards he chooses. The second player does the same. The first player may now keep his original hand or draw up to five cards. His discards are put aside out of the game. The second player may now draw likewise. The person with the higher hand then wins. Suits have equal value, so that two flushes tie unless one is made of higher cards. After a while the players discover that the first player can always win if he draws his first hand correctly. Resolved Question: What do you think of this?

It won't really matter any more een for misdemeanors, as most companies are now doing a back ground check. So then you are SOL any way. First of all, I want to point out that there are a lot of misconceptions being reiterated here, so I am posting to clarify several issues. Now I have been hearing about this new law, too. Mostly as a rumor. I haven't had time to check this out. But there is a very good reason behind taking the question off of applications. It is illegal by Federal Law to deny employment based on a crime that is not "substantially related" to the position's duties. There are some exceptions to this law, mostly healthcare, education/childcare, and law enforcement, but really not many. http://www.hirenetwork.org/fed_occ_restrictions.html There are also a lot of state restrictions, so knowing your states policies is also important. But here is the real issue: An employer cannot discriminate against the person for a crime not related to the position (with some exceptions), BUT is legally allowed to ask these questions on the application. So the ex-offender then finds him/herself in a Catch 22 situation: If the applicant lies, s/he risks being fired for being dishonest if hired and the lie is discovered. If they indicate that they did commit a crime, there is a very good chance that the employer will just file the application away. If ever asked, the employer will state that the person's qualifications weren't as good as other applicants and they were not considered. In other words they will lie, thereby breaking the law themselves! That is the irony of the situation. And with these circumstances the ex-offender can't win! So what is happening is that employers are discriminating and therefore breaking the law WHOLESALE. This is something that is entrenched in the corporate culture of most bigger companies. It goes all the way to the top! They all know that they are breaking the law, but there really isn't any way to catch them! So the discrimination that is taking place is not enforceable. The way the system works now is that they are supposed to make their hiring decisions without any consideration of any criminal record whatsoever. They are supposed to hire based on the applicants job-related merits (with exception to any affirmative action, but that's a whole different topic). They are supposed to make an offer BEFORE any drug tests or background checks are done, the actual hiring contingent upon the results. If the applicant accepts a job offer, then they run the tests and checks. When the results are obtained, they may reconsider based on the results and withdraw the offer. If this is done, they are REQUIRED BY LAW to issue what is called an "adverse action letter". The "adverse action letter" explains why an employment offer was withdrawn, and is legally binding. If a person was denied employment due to a conviction that wasn't "substantially related" to the position, they have a great case in Civil Court for employment discrimination. Every major corporation that I have dealt with has followed this policy quite strictly. The problem is that they usually don't have to deal with the dilemna of hiring ex-offenders because of the Catch 22 I mentioned above: Honesty equals no job interview, dishonesty equals an "adverse action letter" for lying on the application. So basically the only way to enforce the law is to remove the questions about criminal convictions from the applications altogether. Would the companies like this? Hell no! But it appears that somebody has finally realized that the companies are breaking the laws themselves to discriminate against ex-offenders. So how are they any better? And the public is getting sick and tired of corporate corruption, anyways. So that, in a nutshell, is the reason why they *might* be taking these questions off of applications. And even though I haven't verified whether this is true or not, it makes sense. I think initially that the real winners in this are going to be the ex-offenders and, of course, the employment lawyers. There will be a lot of lawsuits, especially initially. Eventually the companies will benefit after they get tired of getting socked with discrimination lawsuits and non-compliance fines, and finally are shown that hiring an ex-offender isn't much different than a non-offender. And finally society as a whole will benefit when there is less crime and recidivism due to lack of opportunity for ex-offenders, and hiring a former offender becomes less of an issue. more

Resolved Question: A math puzzle--how did Alice and Bob square up a sheep sale?

Two shepherds, Alice and Bob, were facing hard times due to the recession, and had to sell off all their sheep. The sheep were all purchased by the same person in one transaction. For each individual sheep, Alice and Bob received as payment for that sheep a number of dollars equal to the total number of sheep sold. The full payment for all sheep was made using only $10 bills and silver dollars, with less than 10 silver dollars used. Alice and Bob began to attempt to divide up the payment evenly. They took turns taking $10 bills. After a little while, they had each taken the same number of $10 bills, and there was one $10 bill left over, which Alice took. Bill then took all the silver dollars. "Since you took an extra $10 bill, and there was less than $10 in silver dollars, then you still owe me some money," said Bill to Alice. "All right," responded Alice, "I'll write you a check, so that after you cash it, we'll both have received the same amount of money from this sale." What was the value of the check? --- Note 1: There *is* enough information to answer the question, even though it might not seem like it. That is why this problem is interesting! Note 2: Discovering the answer does not require any math other than arithmetic, and proving that your answer is correct does not require any math beyond algebra (although the argument can be streamlined a bit using some ideas from slightly more advanced math).Euler: A beautiful solution, and expressed much more cleanly than mine. I'll leave the question open for a while in case other people want to look at it, and perhaps offer an alternate way to discover the solution.nealjking: Another fine solution. Thanks. It is good to note that the possible numbers of sheep are all integers which end in 4 or 6. more

Voting Question: Could someone proofread/give me their opinion of my letter to the editor?

To the editor: As a student,I feel that the Pentagon's "don't ask, don't tell" policy should be removed. It is simply unreasonable! Why should homosexuals be kicked out of the military, if it is discovered that they like the same sex? I have heard some people say that having people be "openly gay" in the military would cause other soldiers to feel uncomfortable. Of course, it is expected that some soldiers might be a little bit uneasy, at first, but I believe that they will get over it because everyone there has one thing in common with each other: they want to protect our nation. I really think that soldiers in the military will care more about that than about "the guy who is gay". Besides, why should we deny someone the right to be in the military just because they're gay. Isn't everyone equal? Sincerely, Mina Star 1234 Any Street, Nowhere, CA, 9875 (123)-456-7890 I am in the 7th grade. Resolved Question: What is ubCore? I don't know why this driver is on my system and it's causing problems?

My computer has been getting the blue screen of death randomly when I log into Vista with the tagline "IRQL_not_less_but_equal". I did some searching around and it seems to be a problem with a driver, so to try and determine which driver was causing the issue I checked out the Event Viewer. I received the following message several times: "The Unibrain 1394 FireAPI Driver service depends on the UB1394 Miniport group and no member of this group started." Again I searched around and discovered a driver on my system called ubCore. I can't seem to find a definitive answer online as to what this does and why it is on my system. I don't even know what program or hardware it is attached to. What is ubCore and why might it be on my system? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Trinity? True or false? Friend confused..?

My friend asked again about the TRINITY: "The Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Ghost is God, and yet there are not three Gods but one God." In this Holy Trinity: "The three Persons are CO-EQUAL and CO-ETERNAL: all alike are UNCREATED and OMNIPOTENT." (The Catholic Encyclopedia) Thus the Trinity is considered to be: (One God in three Persons." There is only one verse in the whole of Holy Scripture called the Bible which unequivocally supports this Christian dogma, and that is: "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost; and these three are one. " The first Epistle of John 5:7 Dr C.I, Scofield, D.D. backed by eight other D.D.'s in a footnote to this verse opine: "IT IS GENERALLY AGREED THAT THIS VERSE HAS NO MANUSCRIPT AUTHORITY AND HAS BEEN INSERTED." The fundamentalist Christians still retain this fabrication whereas, in all the modern translations including the Revised Standard Version (RSV) this pious fraud has been unceremoniously expunged, thus confirming this Qur’ânic refutation: "They do blaspheme who say: God is one of three In a Trinity: for there is no God except one God. If they desist not from their word (of blasphemy), verily a grievous penalty will befall the blasphemers among them." Holy Qur'an 5:76. Thank God! The Christians are willy-nilly discovering pagan forgeries in their "word of God", but they are still dragging their feet. Is this true?so 1+1+1=1 ...err no it equals 3..you worship 3 Gods..And you dont make sense.. more

Resolved Question: Have you EVER seen a Christian admit to misusing the word "theory" in the context of scientific discourse?

Just been looking over some of the old Q&A's around here, and I find myself staggered by how often we have to keep going over this one with them every time they say evolution is "just a theory"...: "Well evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape-like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered. Moreover, "fact" doesn't mean "absolute certainty"; there ain't no such animal in an exciting and complex world. The final proofs of logic and mathematics flow deductively from stated premises and achieve certainty only because they are not about the empirical world. Evolutionists make no claim for perpetual truth, though creationists often do (and then attack us falsely for a style of argument that they themselves favor). In science "fact" can only mean "confirmed to such a degree that it would be perverse to withhold provisional consent." I suppose that apples might start to rise tomorrow, but the possibility does not merit equal time in physics classrooms." --Stephen Jay Gould, "Evolution as Fact and Theory" more

Voting Question: Do you know if this is legal?

Ok, so I received an email today. It was talking about a business proposal. I am sure its a scam, but it could be real; either way I am not going through with it. What is explained in this email seems to be illegal, what do you think. The email read: Kind Attention Pls, I am the Bill and Exchange manager of a prime Bank in Cote d'Ivoire. I am writing to seek your cooperation over this business deal. In my Department, I discovered an abandoned sum of (US$ 12 Million) In an account that belongs to one of our foreign customers who died along with his entire family in a plane crash that took place in Kenya, a National of your country and contractor with an oil servicing company. Since we got information about his death, we have been expecting his next of kin or business associate to come and claim his money because it cannot be released unless somebody applies for it as next of kin or business associate to the deceased as indicated in banking guidelines but unfortunately, all his supposed next of kin died along with him at the plane crash leaving nobody behind for the claim. You can read more about the crash on visiting this site:- http:/ /www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/africa/07/20/kenya.crash/index.html <http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/africa/07/20/kenya.crash/index.h> It is therefore upon this discovery that I now decided to make this business proposal to you, to release the money to your account as the next of kin or business associate. The Banking law and guideline stipulates that if such money remains dormant after 8 years, will be transferred into the Bank treasury as unclaimed fund. all I require is your honest cooperation as a foreign citizen to enable us see this deal through. I guarantee this will be executed under all legitimate arrangement that will protect from any breach of law. I will like us to share this money mutually on two equal halves between me and you. I will indulge you at this point to understand that this is privileged information and must be strictly confidential. If you can handle this with me, reach me for more details. Thanks. Kosses Lumoh. Voting Question: Definition of Delta Function?

I have calculated the integral of a trig function X(t) containing a variable F. I have discovered that X(t) = ∞, where F = 1 or F= - 1, and X(t) = 0 for all other values of F. I have been told that this means my answer is δ(1) + δ(-1). However, I am struggling to prove this from the definition of the delta function. The definition says that δ(n) = ∞, where n = 0 and δ(n) = 0, where n!= 0 So surely this means that δ(1) = 0 at all points, as 1obviously does not equal 0? Sorry if I haven't explained this very well, but I'm rather confused! Can anyone explain to me how my result gives δ(1) + δ(-1)? Thanks in advance for any help. Thanks Curt, It is a function with variables F and t, and is integratedd with respect to t more

Voting Question: One More Step to Prove God's Existence: Speed of Light?

For once in my life, I discussed someone about God's Existence, I have brought some verses from the Quran to prove God's existence, so I just wanna post them again, if you agree, then it's good, if you disagree, then it's good too. so please understand that I'm just posting this as an idea not to challenge/defeat anyone. One of the major scientific miracles in Quran as I see is a miracle I found was discovered by Dr. Muhammad Doudah last year which is "The Speed of Light in Quran": INFO: Speed of Light = 299,792.458 km/s Day Duration = 86,164.09966 The Distance (avg.) which the Moon goes through a Lunar year = 25,831,347,230 km/s THE VERSE: "He directs the command from the heaven to Earth, then it ascends back to him in a day whose measure is a thousand years of what you count" Al-Sajda : 5 THE MEANING: Allah sends the command from heaven to Earth and go back to heaven and this command distance of one day equals the distance which the Moon goes through 1000 Lunar years. THE SCIENTIFIC MEANING: Velocity = Distance / Duration Distance: The Distance which the Moon goes through one thousand Lunar years. Distance = 25,831,347.23 X 1000 Distance = 25,831,347,230 Duration: Day Duration Day Duration = 86,164.09966 Velocity: Speed of Light (299,792.458 km/s). Velocity = Distance / Duration Velocity = 25,831,347,230 / 86,164.09966 Velocity = 299792.458 = Speed of Light To sum up, the command that Allah sends crosses distance in one day equals the distance that the moon crosses in 1000 lunar years. WHY LUNAR YEARS? because that's what Muslims count according to the verse (The Hijri Calendar). thanks in advance.@rt66lt: I accept that, I have maybe more than 100 similar and much better things to come next, so I won't accept the "Coincidence" justification next time...cheerz!@PC User: No, it's the command's speed which makes him go through a distance in one day equals the distance which the moon can go through in 1000 lunar years. @green_latern5353: You know, Muslims believe in the testament but not it's changes by humans. @Barris: That's a good method to prove God's existence, this (and many other things can't be made by humans), tomorrow I will ask a new question.@rt66lt: does "swimming in the sky" means "orbits the Earth"? it says each of them is swimming in it's orbit, and the Sun orbits the center of the Galaxy with a velocity of 2.2 x 10^5 m/s.@Andromache: Info are taken from Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidereal_day#Sidereal_time_and_solar_time@Saul Tigh: The numbers are not wrong, you can get how they are calculated through this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUm5_GiybHw more

Resolved Question: How do you feel about fans who OVERANALYZE?

You don't have to read the whole thing, of course. Just pick a few sentences, and you will get what I mean. ''TO ANYONE WHO THINKS TOOL SUCKS: READ THIS POST ON A WEBSITE I FOUND, AND FIND OUT WHY THEY ARE INCREDIBLE Okay - I'm a first time poster, but there are some things that I really want to throw around. To me, Tool's Lateralus is the most amazing piece of music ever composed. Not because I'm a goofball that has an affinity for the rockin' hard metal, and not because I want to latch on to their (in my opinion, unfairly applied) satanic reputation, but because I can say that it is the most intellectual, inspirational, and awe-inspiring material that I have ever been exposed to. Many reviews and commentaries of Lateralus on the internet mention that it was long-awaited, often saying that it eased Tool fans' desire for more. I think it was much more than that. I think Tool deliberately wanted to give their fans something truly amazing, but wanted them to find it on their own. "Recognize this as a holy gift..." At first, I thought that the song Lateralus was about tripping acid - discovering true color by seperating the body from the mind. At first listen, I imagined the bending envelope as an intense visual. After becoming more familiar with the track, however, I had reformed my interpretation to something broader: think deeper. Lateralus, perhaps because it is the album's "title track", serves as the central clue for a puzzle that a friend of mine had read about somewhere on the internet. "All I know is that there is a different order for the songs - something about two spirals. Oh yeah, and thirteen is in the middle." After scavenging through endless google search results, I gave up on finding more about this 'alternate order'. Intent to figure the album out, and very curious about the spirals - I put on the proverbial 'thinking cap'. I understood how the spirals could have a lot of significance, in that the album's title track offers the inspiring, "swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human..........And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been. We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been." In my internet scavenging, I had read one review, written by a drummer, who mentioned that Danny Carey's drum beat formed a fibonacci sequence during the song Lateralus. A drummer myself, I decided to get out the graph paper and follow Danny. I can't play like he can, but at least I can hear everything he's doing, and thus was able to construct the drum tabulature. Sure enough, Danny repeats a Fibonacci sequence through the number 13: 1,1,2,3,5,8,13. After 13, he starts again with 1. Bringing in my Algebra 2 knowledge of the Fibonacci sequence, when the equation for the Fibonacci sequence (which I don't actually know) is graphed, it forms a sprial whose vertex depends on the number at which the sequence begins. Coincidence? I began to think not. I had already known of Danny's obsession with sacred geometry and am familiar with Bob Frissell's book, Nothing in This Book Is True, But It's Exactly How Things Are , so the significance of what I had stumbled upon had actually begun to settle in. This is where I just had to play with Lateralus. I had doodled a few spirals in the corners of my graph paper, and in doing so made the first important connection to Lateralus. I knew that if the tracks were in fact intended to be heard in a different order, "Parabol" and "Parabola" would have to go together. In drawing my spirals, I had begun with a vertex and 'spiraled' outwards. After writing the numbers 1 through 13 linearly, I could immediately see that Parabol and Parabola would have to be the middle of my spiral (in that 13 / 2 = 6.5). I drew a simple arrow between 6 and 7 and then pondered the next pair. At first, I actually drew a spiral connecting pairs of numbers whose sum equaled 13 (the number of songs on the album). This, however, left the last track in the same position and without anything to connect to. At this time, I had used my copy of Lateralus and Cool Edit Pro to take out the silences between tracks and put the songs in the following order: 6,7,5,8,4,9,3,10,2,11,1,12,13. The transition from Parabola into Schism blew my mind, as the plucks, probably dismissed by listeners as a drawn out rant of an ending, perfectly transition into the beginning of Schism. When you count out beats as the strings are plucked, Schism resumes with the same time signature and tempo - mirroring the progression of notes. The transition from Schism into Ticks & Leeches is equally intriguing. Schism ends with strong double-kick bass and tom smacks, and Ticks & Leeches begins with what many would call a 'tribal' drum beat. The beat at the very start of Ticks & Leeches is slightly different every subsequent time it is repeated - the measures are two beats longer. Yup - you guessed it - those two beats are ACTUALLY the last two beats of Schism. I can honestly sayDamn it, Yahoo cut off the rest of my question.I found this on some musicforum. I must admit, that I have done some overanalyzing myself sometimes, and that I enjoy reading stuff like this. Even though it's propably bullsh*t. Do you ever tend to overanalyze lyrics, music or any other material from a band you love? Does it annoy you when people overanalyze? more

Resolved Question: How do you know if a MS PRO DUO is original?

So here's the deal. I had my Sony MagicGate High Speed 8GB for 7 months now when it suddenly bugged down just yesterday. It's decrease in performance was gradual though not really that noticeable until it suddenly just gave out. Now I can't almost access it, with a success ratio of 1:3 and even then it won't play a game without hanging after the first 3 minutes. I bought it as part of a package deal that if roughly converted will equals to 275$. I can't tell if it's a Class A (original) or Class B (fake) because I already threw the box a long time ago and whether how much it costs as a standalone, but this is what I can tell; it has a correct UPC (universal product code) of MSX-M8GS. Second line is 2800L8, and third line being CASC1000000. It even has this circle gold seal of being original and a blue sticker box that is usually used for warranty purposes. And another seal that I cannot see. And it says it's made in Japan or somewhere since I could only see the last letter which is N, so it can't be China right? And the box has a manual (I can't remember if it was multilingual) and only the card itself inside. So what, is it an original or a fake? I used BlackSpeed v.2 to determine it's speed just now and discovered it only has a 172 Index rating (which seems to be standard Class A from my research), a far outcry from the average 350+ minimum (I suppose; what I saw is 371) Index rating that it's supposed to have. If it already has that many seals to certify it is an ORIGINAL which I see it now as NOT (the transfer rate won't even go higher than 3MB and standard is 1.75MB). What is the true signs of it being an original? Is it even supposed to have those seals because the way I see it might have been tampering job. And 7 months, come on! Is it only really supposed to last that long I swear I couldnt have even made use of more than a thousand flashes of read and write. Which brings me to ask; what is the lifespan of an original? And what does the box looks like? Is the manual multilingual? Does it suppose to come in with anything else? Please I need an answer, I don't want to go spending money for a MS every 7 months. And it's not as simple as going to a certified Sony store, those are few and far in between in my place and even legit stores here whose main products are Class B still carries Class A(s) with them. Sorry for the very long rant. But I hope you understand my position. Any help will be deeply appreciated.I can't see the words Magic Gate said anywhere more so the word "supported". In GAME, there are only: Title; Parental Control; Updated; and Size displayed. Does this mean it is a fake? more

Resolved Question: Do you read "young adult" books?

For years when my kids were young enough to go to library summer and after-school programs, I sometimes ended up "trapped" in the kids' section during the program because the rules stated that they were not "babysitters" and parents were expected to remain in the kids' section to supervise their own children. Sometimes I remembered to bring my own reading material, other times I forgot. I started off using that time to look for books to check out to read to the kids, but that doesn't take an hour or two. Then boredom set in and I started picking up books from the young adult fiction section and read the dust jackets, and discovered that there are some VERY good authors there. Ever since, when I want some light reading, I sometimes look at YA books with almost equal weight as the regular adult reading section. I have discovered that I really enjoy YA authors such as Tamora Pierce, Meg Cabot, K.A. Applegate and others and I actually wait for their next book release. I also found I enjoyed the historical princess series that explores the childhood and teen years of famous female rulers (various authors). My youngest has reached the age/ability to read these books and it provides us a common interest for mother/daughter conversation. At the same time, my husband and teenage sons got interested because of our conversations about these series (especially Tamora Pierce) so it has become something the whole family shares.. Harry Potter started out as young adult fiction, and like the Tamora Pierce books, the books "grew up" with the characters, until the final books in the series hardly seemed to be YA at all, but had moved into a nebulous place between YA and mainstream fantasy fiction. So, do you find yourself reading (and enjoying!) YA books? more

Resolved Question: Is there anything wrong with this?

Hi, i was born male and pretty much during much during most of my youth i have been a sexist asshole and I always considered women inferior and could say some pretty insulting comments. When i hit the age of 9years old I started getting a strong feeling that i should be a girl myself and not saying it went straight away but by the time I became 14 became fairly feminist on my views on society and I believe everyone should be equal except for one thing...Well I'm 16years old now, on a 6year waiting list to start becoming a woman(may switch to a shorter one at 18), I have a wonderful girlfriend who's 15 and until today i thought she was bisexual but turns out for the past 4months or so she's discovered she is straight, we are still together though, she loves me too much to leave me and we're engaged and our hoping to marry one day in a Canada as a lesbian couple and I'm gonna have some of my sperm frozen before I become a girl so we can raise a family together and she's...(details not finished)...gonna give birth obviously(if I could I would give birth) and then I'm gonna breastfeed as that's one thing i can do, we've practically got our future planned out.One thing with me is I believe everyone should have equal rights but I don't want to have equal rights myself, i talked to my girlfriend about this and being so understanding we've come up with a list of rules together, the lot(this isn't some sort of kinky sex game btw):Basically the rules are:1. Once we are financially stable I'm not to get a job.2. I am to remain physically weak.3. I'm not allowed the right to vote.4. Due to how weak I'll be for my safety I'm to get permission from my girlfriend to go out and I'm to be with someone I can trust at all times and to be back at whatever time my girlfriend states.5. My role in the household is to keep the house clean and do whatever my girlfriend asks.6. I'm not allowed a drivers license.(still not finished)7. Once we have kids I'm going to be a full-time Mum.8. My indoor shoes are to have atleast 1inch high heels and outdoor shoes atleast 3 inch high heels.9. I'm to act and live in a perfectly feminine manner and not take interest in things that are considered masculine.10. I'm only to wear dresses and skirts on my legs.11. My underwear is to be puink.Etc.Is it ok to want to live like this but still be feminist?Btw, don't write any hate answers and everyone at my school knows I',m transsexual and no one bullies me, two my girlfriend knew I was transsexual before we got together, Just cos you're narrow minded whoever wrote that answer doesn't mean everyone else is. Also GID, transsexuality medical name is a recognised condition and recently a gene was found in connection with it.And afctually after surgery it can be very easy to pass as surgery has got a lot better over the past few decades and Canduis Cayne a famous actress and model is transsexual and was born a man and the girl who played Princess Tula in James Bond, she was born a man. Also I won't be living in the same place., not even the same country as I had the surgery, there is no way i am having a civil partnership in the UK when i can get married in Canada, also Britain is going down the drain, our culture the lot, this place is ruins.Back to my question anyway, the way i see it everyone should have the choice of equal rights but if they don't wish to have them i think that's their right and they shouldn't get discriminated or isolated from other groups because of it.Can i still be feminist but want to be inferior myself at the same time?I don't know, sometimes I think it's God's way of getting back at me for how sexist i was when i was younger, lol. What goes around comes around as the saying goes. I'm happyu thoughg, seems like the sort of punishment an all loving God would dish out.Already one step ahead of you, well my gender clinic was, with the waiting list being so long they said just to confirm my GP's diagnosis go and see a mental health assessment clinic, they check history everything to check if it was a past issue, i saw them February, confirmed diagnosis, no childhood experiences triggered it so...I have GID.!, I don't remember the rule I can't go out partying, i admit i'm not allowed to drink alcohol but that is for an entirely different reason, my girlfriend's Grandma was killed by a drunk driver and she's dead against alcohol now and I respect that.God is not an imaginary, nor is he a bully. Also i do have choice and to be honest when it's come to deciding things financially I have been the one workoing finance all out, i'm going to go on to further education to increase my knowledge of science and maths and if I ever got bored of the lifestyle I'm choosing all i have to do is tell my girlfriend and we'll stop with it. I'm not a slave at all. more

Don't think I've hit a deadly snag, but I need to know what STABLE super-heavies that have an atomic mass of greater than or equal to 244 could render the UNSTABLE super-heavy element Plutonium (atomic mass: 244) inert. I was thinking of Rutherfordium, but I'm not sure that's a high enough atomic mass to render ALL of the Plutonium inert. I was thinking that something with an atomic mass of 340, but still stable could do so, but they aren't discovered yet. So does anyone know any lower amount of an element that currently exists that could render the isotope inert? Also, how could you prolong this element's half-life for a minimum of two years? Thanks for you input everyone. more

Resolved Question: This is a problem called 'Curvy Chook Pens' from my maths booklet?

Farmer Josie had a chook pen which was enclosed by a straight Brick wall and a semicircular fence with a radius of 10m. (pretty much a semicircle with a radius of 10m against a line) She noticed that the chooks ate too much grass each day and did ot allowed the grass to regrow. Josie decided to divide the semicircular fence into three sections of equal length AB, BC, CD. These sections were then rearranged away from the brick wall to make the curvy chook pen which she planned to move around. a. Josie realized that within this new pen the points A,B,C, formed an equilateral triangle with side length 10m. Prove that Josie was correct. b. Find the exact area enclosed by the curvy chook pen. c. Josie allowed the chook to graze in the curvy pen for three weeks after which she rotated the pen 120 degrees clockwise about the point C and the repeated this after another 3 weeks. At the end of the ninth week Josie decided to rotate the pen 180 degree clockwise about C. She noticed that the pen now enclosed grass that was three weeks old, six weeks old and unused grass. What percentage of the grass was unused? Round you answer to one decimal place. d. Josice was fascinated with the 'curvy triangle' shape and doodled it endlessly. She discovered she could draw squares to contain it with each of the sides of the square just touching it. Even more, she found that all of these squares were the same size. If this is true, what is the side length of the squares? sorry i cant draw the diagrams more

Resolved Question: Richard Feynman joke?

One day in class, Richard Feynman was talking about angular momentum. He described rotation matrices and mentioned that they did not commute. He said that Sir William Hamilton discovered noncommutivity one night when he was taking a walk in his garden with Lady Hamilton. As they sat down on a bench, there was a moment of passion. It was then that he discovered that AB did not equal BA. Can someone explain this joke to me. I don't understand it. more

Resolved Question: My essay on why homosexual marriageshould be legalized in the USA... please read and comment?

Here is what I have so far... Please read and tell me if there is anything i should add... The state of Vermont recently became the fourth state to allow same-sex marriage. Along with Iowa, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, Vermont allows gay couples to engage in holy matrimony. Many people are upset about this; they say marriage should only be between a man and a woman. This is the case for some people, but many other people do not think this at all. Gay rights activists all around America fight every day so that homosexuals can have equality too. I’m not one of those people that get angry if people in Vermont are happy with the one they love; I am one of those people who hopes that someday, homosexuals in America will have the same rights as heterosexuals. Homosexual men and women should be allowed to marry in all states of the United States of America. If you ask just about anyone, they’ll probably tell you that they believe in equal rights for homosexuals. They’ll probably say that gays deserve the same rights in housing, jobs, public accommodations, and should have the same access to government benefits, equal protection of the law, etc. But if then asked about gay marriage, all this talk about equality for gays stops dead in its tracks. Why is it that these people who are in favor of equal rights for gays are opposed to gay marriage? The reason is that there are many misunderstandings about homosexuality. First of all, people think it isn’t natural; however, this is not the truth. Homosexual behavior has been described in about 450 species of animals. This applies to humans too; we are technically animals! Homosexuals also cannot help who they love. There have been many extensive studies over the past years about whether homosexuality is hereditary or not, and many answers have been given. Some say it is a choice, some say it depends on the type of environment one grows up in, and others say it “runs through the family.” Well, about 15 years ago, a geneticist named Dean Hamer discovered that it is partially (if not fully) hereditary and runs through the mother’s side on the “X” chromosome. Basically, the majority of homosexual people in America are being prevented of rights because of something they can’t control. There are also stereotypes about gay relationships. The stereotype is that gays are promiscuous, unfaithful, and unable to form lasting relationships. And this does happen in some gay marriages. It does, however, happen in heterosexual marriages too, and the percentage in both is very small. As gays grow older, just as straight people do, they learn to find a way into long-term relationships. These stereotypes are not fair, whatsoever; they are just what people assume. Many Americans despise gay marriage, not to mention the fact that there are even homosexuals in the world. They say that gay marriage is wrong because marriage is sacred and should be between and man and a woman, they say it is pointless because there is no reproduction happening, they say it is against religion, etc. My favorite quote from a married gay couple I know is, “How does my marriage affect the sanctity of yours?” Why does this homosexual couple’s happiness make their straight neighbors angry? Why do the neighbors even care? Many people say that the sanctity of marriage needs to be preserved, and that marriage is only meant to be between a man and a woman. The divorce rate in the US right now is hovering around 60%. How’s that for sanctity? Others say that it shouldn’t be allowed because God wants us to repopulate the Earth, and gays can’t do this. These people are thinking illogically, however. If anything, gay marriage would help the earth. The world is completely overpopulated, and if the roughly 10% of gays on Earth were to refrain from reproduction, this world would most likely be better off. Why are gays prevented from marrying because they are infertile? Infertile heterosexual couples get married all the time! Is a couple with a post-menopausal woman or an impotent man prevented from marrying? No, they aren’t. This is completely unfair. Homosexuals having the ability to marry could also help the economy in the US. If there were more people getting married, more marriage licenses would have to be purchased, giving the states more money. Another reason that people oppose gay marriage is religion. People believe that gays should not be allowed to marry because God says so. Many passages in the Bible, such as Leviticus 20:13, say that homosexuality and sodomy will send you straight to Hell. In Leviticus is says, “If a man lies with a male, as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. This makes no sense! God makes everyone in his image, and since homosexuality is not a choice, this is not true. God did not write the Bible. Humans did, and they wrote what they had heard and what they believed. The Bible also says that God lovessorry it didnt all fit: everyone and “though shalt not judge.” It’s basically contradicting itself. Also, according to the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States, the Bible has no standing in American law, and what God says isn’t so. The Declaration of Independence says that all people have the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Do gays not count as “all people?” We are all born the same way. We all spend the first nine months of our life crammed into out mother’s womb. We all take the same first breath when we are born. Why is it, then, that homosexuals do not have the same rights as heterosexuals? They too are living, breathing human beings, so wouldn’t it make sense for them to have equal rights? Gays are people too, and they can’t help who they love. They don’t have a choice. Asking a homosexual to become heterosexual is just like asking a heterosexual to become homosexual. It isn’t possible! Gays in Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, South AfriAfrica, Spain and Norway have the right to marriage, but gays in America don’t. The United States of America is supposed to be the greatest nation in the world. We are supposed to be setting good examples for other countries to follow us, and here we are, not allowing gays to marry. It really is a shame if you think about it. Another reason that gays should be allowed to marry is that Civil Union is simply not enough. There are many rights that come with marriage but do not come with Civil Union. The following are the rights that do not come with Civil Union: automatic inheritance, burial determination, child custody, crime victim’s recovery benefits, divorce protections, domestic violence protection, exemption from property tax on partner’s death, joint parenting, medical decisions on behalf of partner, property rights, visitation of partner’s children, visitation of partner in hospital or prison, child benefits in the event of a divorce, and many more. Also, the federal governmentdoes not recognize Civil Unions given by states. America has tried to make “separate but equal” laws for gays, but these laws are hardly equal. The only difference between a heterosexual and a homosexual is a prefix. They are people too, and they need to be treated like them. Gays and straights that believe in equal, not separate but equal, rights for all homosexual people work long and hard in hopes of someday gaining these rights. It is sad that many people just stand by and observe while others speak out against them. More people need to get involved in helping these people gain rights. Many schools have gay-straight alliance, and students can get together, support each other, talk about issues related to sexuality, and work to end homophobia. Joining these alliances can help students grow up and work for gay rights. There are also many gay pride marches. Showing up to a gay pride march shows your support for the gay community. Here are some other ideas to show appreciation for gaHere are some other ideas to show appreciation for gays: vote for politicians who back gay rights, write to your politicians and tell them what you think, stick up for a gay friend, help spread tolerance, participate in the day of silence, donate to organizations that are for gay rights, and volunteer for organizations that support gay rights. By doing these things, you can help the people in America realize that gays are people too, and they deserve just the same rights as we do.BTW: im gay but this is for school and im not out so im acting as if im straight more
