What Is The Equal Pay Amendment Questions asked

Open Question: Republicans, if I was running for public office would you consider voting for me?

I am a democrat, but a moderate, not a liberal. Below are issues where i either partially or fully agree with the republicans. Gun Control: While I believe that guns should be kept out of the hands of dangerous criminals, I support the second amendment. Defend your home, go out and hunt, just be safe. I believe it is unnecessarily to tax guns and ammunition on top of the already existing state sales tax. Abortion: More pro life than pro choice. I do not believe that it should be outlawed fully, but believe that after the first few weeks, it should be outlawed due to the fact that the fetus is now conscious and feels the pain of the abortion. At this stage, it should be done only to save the life of the mother. Also, abortion should not be a free service, it should be a service you pay for, unless it is a case of rape, incest, or if the mother would die in child birth. This eliminates abortion as birth control and creates revenue for the government. Affirmative action: Harmful to true equality. Obama is wrong to support it. Military: Raise the salaries of our heroes and increase funding to troops in Afghanistan. Catching Bin Laden is a top priority. This is something I praise Obama for doing. Economy/stimulus money: Should be going specifically to education, tax cuts, pay raises for military personal, and public works projects for green energy jobs. Taxes: I will not now, nor will I ever support trickle down economics, Reaganomics etc. However, I would lower taxes on the wealthy. With trickle down, the working class cannot invest in themselves because they pick up the burden of the top five percent not paying taxes. However, if the rich are taxed at the high rate they are now, it is difficult for these companies to reinvest in new jobs. There can be a balance here. The wealthy would pay on no more than five percent of their income, and by wealthy I mean those making 150'000 plus a year. I would give tax credits to small businesses who offer health benefits to employees, and per employee hired. A low tax rate, combined with cutting wasteful spending will fund the stimulus money and may lead to a budget surplus. Immigration: If they get a visa, work for equal wages in the competitive market, they are welcome in my book. This is the land of opportunity. But, if they hop the fence and take American jobs for half pay, immediate deportation. No amnesty, and increase border patrol funding. An immigrant should not be eligible for workers compensation if they are not legal residents. I consider myself a moderate, blue dog democrat. A JFK democrat and Teddy Roosevelt progressive. I voted for Obama and generally approve of him, but do think there are some things he has done wrong. I can't see myself voting against him in 2012. Again, I am a democrat, just not a liberal. I voted for Bill Richardson in the NH primary. Above are the issues where I either partially or fully agree with the republicans. I support the democrats on all other issues, such as Iraq withdrawal, same sex marriage, health care reform, stem cell research, anti-torture, medicaid and medicare, and welfare (as long as it is temporary for laid off workers and not a way of life)Resistance, sorry, forgot your energy question. I support Nuclear energy, wind energy, solar energy and clean coal.Resistance: I support free trade with free countries. Communist countries, such as China, Cuba, North Korea, etc should not be dealt with. However, companies that ship jobs overseas would not be eligible for tax cuts. As far as the drug war, all illegal drugs would stay illegal, except for medical Marijuana. more

Resolved Question: Shouldn't DEMOCRATS ONLY PAY REPARATIONS since they fought to keep slavery, Jim Crow Laws, and started the KKK?

100 years ago you Democrats were enforcing Jim Crow segregation laws, poll taxes to keep blacks from voting, and riding around in sheets and pointy hats just in case blacks didn't get the message. Democrats say "It's important to have a collective response" because you want to bury the origins, purposes, and historical practices of your own party. Principled Republicans knowing their history would author a resolution reciting the facts that the Republican Party was formed, among other reasons, to oppose slavery and that the Republican Party and its first President Abraham Lincoln responded to Southern, Democrat-led secession with a successful war that preserved the union and freed the slaves. After Lincoln's assassination (by a Democrat), the Republican-led Congress (over the objections of the Democratic Party minority) amended the Constitution to confirm the liberation of the slaves (13th Amendment: slavery abolished), and the 14th Amendment (freed slaves are citizens equal to all citizens) and the 15th Amendment (right to vote guaranteed to freed slaves). Southern Democrats spent the next 100 years trying to keep freed slaves down with segregation laws, poll taxes to deny the right to vote, and lynching to enforce the social order. The KKK was formed by a Democrat; no Republican has ever been a member of the KKK. This is the heritage of the Democratic Party. In fact, the Democratic Party was formed in the first place to defend and expand slavery. In 1840, the very first national nominating convention of the Democratic Party adopted a platform which read in part: Resolved, That Congress has no power ... to interfere with or control the domestic institutions of the several states ... that all efforts by abolitionists ... made to induce Congress to interfere with questions of slavery ... are calculated ... to diminish the happiness of the people, and endanger the stability and permanency of the union. In 1868, the DEMOCRATIC party condemned the Republican Party in its party platform as the "Radical Party," and condemned Reconstruction in these unforgettable words: Instead of restoring the Union, it (the Radical Party) has dissolved it, and subjected ten states (the former Confederate states) ... to military despotism and negro supremacy.hardcore you are wrong EISENHOWER PUT FORTH MORE CIVIL RIGHTS LAWS THAN ANY OTHER PRESIDENT (R) more

What was another factor?        protecting U.S. investments in Cuba        stopping Cuba from nationalizing U.S. businesses        preventing Spain from attacking the United States        a treaty agreement with England 17. Why did Woodrow Wilson want to form a League of Nations?        He believed nations would be better equipped to avoid an economic crisis.        He envisioned a shared system of providing for world poverty relief.        H more

Resolved Question: How good is this essay? Opinions would be nice!?

I had to write an essay on the most influential thing or person we studied this year in American history and I chose Susan B. Anthony. Its due tomorrow and I really need some kind of feedback. So if you could just read over it and give me any advice on it that'd be so helpful! Susan B. Anthony Women have tons of rights in the United States right? Women didn’t always have that many rights in America. Back before the 1900’s, women only had the right to marry and give birth to children. Many women worked hard to get the same rights as men. There was one significant woman who worked extremely hard…Susan B. Anthony. She was truly the most influential person we studied in American history this year. Would women have the same rights if it weren’t for her? Anthony spoke at campaigned for women’s property rights in New York, spoke at meetings and collected signatures for petitions. Susan B. Anthony attended her first ever women’s rights convention in Syracuse. Anthony was introduced to Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Together, they founded the American Equal Rights Association. They began working on The Revolution(a newspaper) in Rochester, NY. Their logo was ‘Men their rights, and nothing more. Women their rights, and nothing less’. In 1869, Anthony and Stanton founded the National Women’s Suffrage Association(NWSA). It was an organization dedicated to gaining women’s suffrage. In the early years of NWSA Anthony tried to unite women into the labor movement. Anthony campaigned for women’s suffrage on speaking tours in the west. On November 18, 1872, Anthony was arrested for illegally voting in the 1872 Presidential Election. Anthony was tried and convicted 7 months later. She was fined but refused to pay the bail. The trial gave Anthony the opportunity to get her voice heard to a wider audience than ever before. There were two women’s suffrage organizations, NWSA and American Women Suffrage Association(AWSA)merged together forming the NAWSA. Anthony campaigned in the west to make sure that territories that gave women the right to vote, hadn’t blocked them from the union. Susan B. Anthony died 14 years, 5 months and 5 days before the 19th amendment passed. The 19th amendment gave women the right to vote. Its also known as the Susan B. Anthony Amendment. To remember Anthony, she is now on our $1 coin. Could women really have the same rights if it weren’t for Susan B. Anthony? As you can see, Anthony fought hard for the rights of American women. Although she didn’t live to see the results, she had a huge impact on it. Some people would say that she wasn’t the most influential person we studied in American history. Without her, women probably wouldn’t have the same rights they have today. Susan B. Anthony was truly the most influential person we studied this year in American history. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Can we afford another Supreme Court justice who doesn't understand the purpose and intent of the 5th Amendment?

This case was decided in part by SC Nominee Sonia Sotomayor: "Bart Didden wanted to put a CVS pharmacy on his property in Port Chester, N.Y. He even obtained approvals from the local planning board. "But because a portion of the CVS site was in a blighted redevelopment zone, Mr. Didden was told that planning board approval wasn't enough. He'd have to reach an understanding with a private company that had been selected by Port Chester officials to control all construction inside the renewal zone. "The developer, Gregg Wasser of G&S Port Chester, told Didden he'd have to pay $800,000 or give G&S a 50 percent stake in the CVS business. If Didden refused, Mr. Wasser said, he would have Port Chester condemn and seize his property and instead of a CVS he'd put a Walgreens drugstore on the site. "Didden refused. The next day, the Village of Port Chester began legal proceedings to seize Didden's land by eminent domain." (Source: http://www.inversecondemnation.com/inversecondemnation/2007/01/give_me_money_o.html) Here is a case of one private citizen extorting money ($800,000) from another private citizen. What makes this case so egregious is that, in this case, the extortionist threatened to use the government as a weapon against his victim. What makes it even more egregious is that the Court could find no remedy for the victim under the 5th Amendment Takings Clause or the 14th Amendment. Here a quote from the Appeals Court ruling, which was co-authored by Sonia Sotomayor: "...the recent Supreme Court decision in Kelo v. City of New London obliges us to conclude that they have articulated no basis upon which relief can be granted. (“Just as we decline to second-guess the City's considered judgments about the efficacy of its development plan, we also decline to second-guess the City's determinations as to what lands it needs to acquire in order to effectuate the project.”)....Finally, we agree with the district court that Appellees' voluntary attempts to resolve Appellants' demands was neither an unconstitutional exaction in the form of extortion nor an equal protection violation." (Source: Didden v. Village of Port Chester, 173 Fed.Appx. 93, C.A.2 (N.Y.), 2006.) "Appellants' demands" were nothing more than a request to build on their own property. Appellee's "voluntary attempts to resolve Appellants' demands" were nothing short of an attempt at extorting $800,000 from the rightful property owner. If the City government participates in this extortion, how can it NOT be an unconstitutional exaction? This case is a bad follow-up to a bad precedent (Kelo v. City of New London, cited above). And our Supreme Court nominee refuses to acknowledge extortion when she sees it. As much as she is to be admired for her personal history and achievements, can we afford to have another SC justice on the bench who is indifferent to the 5th Amendment?Moose, once again you've managed to ignore the question and respond with a non-sequiter. Once again, you've managed to pad your numbers without contributing a thing to the topic at hand. Thanks again for nothing.Miss Daisy, I agree with you in part, but I think it's more complicated than just "liberal vs. conservative." After all, in the aftermath of the Kelo case, people from both the left and the right were justifiably outraged.Pliny the Elder, thanks. Would love to know more about what your thoughts are on this.Brooooooklyn, you may be right. She may have felt her hands were tied by the Kelo case. After all, she does say in their opinion that "Kelo v. City of New London obliges us to conclude...." But somehow I doubt that she would do anything to reverse Kelo's effects as a Supreme Court justice. We'll just have to wait and see. Thanks for the links.Nokilleye, where to begin? First of all, it’s obvious you didn’t read the entire question. Otherwise, you would have known that this is NOT about CVS vs. Walgreens. There was no implication that either was a “victim” in this case. This is about property owners, and the fact that the government can just take your property from you at will, regardless of motive. This is about the fact that a portion of the Bill of Rights (the “Takings Clause” of the 5th Amendment) was written specifically to prevent this type of injustice, but the Supreme Court has refused to address takings when they see them. This is about the fact that the poor are just as likely to be victimized as the rich (perhaps even more so). So keep your hysterical laughter to yourself next time. Don’t bother to answer a question if you can’t bother to read it. more

Resolved Question: Do you think Barack Obama will sign the Equal Rights Amendment?

I sure hope he does. This is 2009. We should be setting the standard on how other countries live and not providing comic relief by being the laughing stock of the industrialized world. Though I believe affirmative action is becoming obsolete, I think it would be fantastic if women and minorities received equal pay. Does anyone have any thoughts on that? more

Resolved Question: A good point in support of gay marriage and why we shouldn't even be having this debate in the first place!?

Ok, this isn't really a question but i just wanted to make a point that I feel has not been emphasized enough by pro-gay marriage ppl on the news. My point is that in 1896, the Supreme Court made a landmark decision in Plessy v Ferguson allowing segregation of public facilities based on the idea of "separate but equal." However, that ruling was later overturned by Brown v Board of Education which ruled that separate was inherently unequal, and as a result segregation ended. Based on this, gay marriage should therefore be perfectly legal. Even if all states allowed civil unions w/ equal benefits, protections as marriage, this is still a form of SEGREGATION (i.e. separate but equal!) Why don't ppl pay attention to these Supreme Court cases and realize that we shouldn't even be having this debate! Brown v Board of Education (whose ruling was based on the 14th Amendment of the Constitution) already made it clear that segregation is inequality. Gay marriage is just like the issue of segregation, and Brown v Board already solved segregation, so gay marriage should be recognized! And its not like there is a legitimate reason against gay marriage that isn't religious anyway. What do you think? (I hope what i said makes sense) more

Resolved Question: Should schools have the right to ask if children are illegal?

Tucson Region http://www.azstarnet.com/allheadlines/290558 Sheriffs: Are you in school legally? By Howard Fischer Capitol Media Services Tucson, Arizona | Published: 04.28.2009 PHOENIX — Some border county sheriffs want Arizona schools to start asking students whether they're in this country legally. Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik originated the idea and said millions of dollars in Arizona taxes go to teach English to children who have no legal right to be here. He also said there's a link involving illegal immigration, social problems and gangs. Only thing is, a 1982 U.S. Supreme Court decision appears to make it illegal for school officials to ask. In a 5-4 decision, the justices overturned a Texas law that authorized school districts to refuse to enroll anyone who couldn't prove legal residence. But Dupnik said it may be time for Arizona to have a test case to put the issue back before the high court — to see if the current justices agree. Dupnik has the backing of Yuma County Sheriff Ralph Ogden and Joe Arpaio, his Maricopa County counterpart. And Gov. Jan Brewer said she sees no reason why youngsters shouldn't be asked to prove they are U.S. citizens or legal residents. "When I grew up, when I went to school, when I moved from Nevada to California, I had to bring my birth certificate to prove I was a citizen," she said. But Attorney General Terry Goddard said he doesn't think schools have the expertise to determine legal status. And state Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne said he believes the federal government should just do a better job of protecting the border. "But as long as kids are here, they should be in school," he said. "You don't want them on the street corner." Dupnik, however, has an answer for that: Have schools report their findings to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. "They would identify the people that are here illegally by the thousands and send them back, kids and parents," he said. The issue has financial implications: The Pew Hispanic Center estimates that 60,000 to 65,000 of the 1.2 million youngsters in Arizona schools are not in this country legally. The Department of Education figures basic state aid for students is about $6,000 a year, not counting what the state pays for school construction. That puts the price tag near $390 million — minus, of course, any taxes from illegal residents that go toward education funding. But that doesn't count the extra $360 per student Arizona now gives to schools to help English-language learners. Assuming two-thirds of these students fit that category, that adds $15 million to the tab. In 1982, however, the Supreme Court voided a 1975 Texas law that denied state aid to districts for children not "legally admitted" into the United States. That law also allowed districts to deny admission to those students. Attorneys for Texas argued that the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which entitles every person to equal protection of law, doesn't apply to those not in the country legally. "We reject this argument," Justice William Brennan wrote for the majority. "Whatever his status under the immigration laws, an alien is surely a 'person' in any ordinary sense of the term." And Brennan said education is the only way people can advance themselves. Tucson-area education leaders were hardly supportive of the sheriffs' idea. "Our function is not immigration, but to provide a quality education to kids who live in our district or who come in under open enrollment," said Nicholas Clement, superintendent of the Flowing Wells Unified School District. He said it could invite new problems for schools, envisioning the need to hire additional staffers, order additional training and make difficult decisions on what kinds of documentation would be acceptable.the only reason whole article was not posted was length, there is no solicitation because this is just an article I came upon. Resolved Question: What do you this of my essay (short!)?

The topic was: Did the period of reconstruction leave a positive or negative legacy for African Americans? It needs to be 5 paragraphs but I can't find anything else to put! So let me know what you think! The reconstruction period granted African Americans the freedom, but it certainly did not grant them the privileges that come from being a free man living in the United States. They were denied many jobs because of poor skills. Many were traumatized by groups such as the Ku Klux Klan. Literacy tests were put in place by former Confederates who didn't want blacks to get the vote despite the Fifteenth Amendment. The South also imposed Black Codes, which furthered the low status of blacks. Did the period of Reconstruction leave a positive or negative legacy for African Americans? In my opinion, the Reconstruction period had more of a negative effect than a positive but some aspects of the Reconstruction were a success. Reconstruction was successful, yet only, in a few ways. By passing the Thirteenth Amendment, Congress was finally able to end slavery. Some were anxious and couldn’t bring themselves to leave their plantations due to the fact that most of them were illiterate and didn’t know where to go while others took advantage of their freedom and left. The North continued adopting bills like the Freedmen’s Bureau, the Civil Rights Bill, and the Fourteenth Amendment, which was vetoed by President Johnson, but overrode by Congress. This was a great success during Reconstruction because it provided slaves with many different opportunities. The Freedmen’s Bureau extended the amount of activities for former slaves, such as helping them build schools so they receive an education and making sure they earned an equal pay at their jobs. In 1866, Fourteenth Amendment was passed, declaring African Americans the rights of citizens. The Fifteenth Amendment took this to the next level by granting African American males the right to vote. Meanwhile, Southern state conventions were being held to try and limit their freedom by adopting the “Black Codes.” The “Black Codes” took away the rights of African Americans, putting slavery under a new name. The South had depended on slavery for decades and they couldn’t let of it. Discrimination groups like the “Ku Klux Klan” were created to try and keep former slaves from enjoying their rights. Little was done to stop the KKK because most white Southerners refused to testify in court against those who attacked African Americans. Another problem for former slaves was the fact that they couldn’t find jobs, or even a place to stay – this was due to the lack of money. Conditions for African Americans had not improved, and it may even have worsened. Reconstruction officially ended when the Compromise of 1877 was passed because President Hayes promised that the federal government would no longer try to reshape the South or intervene to protect the rights of Southern African Americans. As Reconstruction ended, racism and segregation towards African Americans like the Jim Crow Laws set in. Though Reconstruction should mostly be considered as negative, some components were positive. An attempt to give equality to African Americans was made, while slavery was completely destroyed. Reconstruction should not be labeled as “failure” or “success” because some intentions of it were fulfilled, while other aspects of the Union remained the same.think* not this more

Voting Question: Paraphrase help please!?

I need help on paraphrasing this passage...... "There was an increased segregation of the job market prior ot the 1970s. The number of women being hired in technical professions was less than one-third. Women were slowly gaining access to jobs that men were given, but were still being paid 40-50% less than them. In 1972, the U.S. Congress passed the Equal Rights Amendment, wheich stated taht equality under the law shall not be denied or abridghed by the United States on account of sex." (Freeman 1). more

Voting Question: A letter to Christians?

Warning: This is long, I hope it's worth reading. Ok, this evening I had a mass debate with a pastor. I just want to open my mind up to you guys on a sensitive issue, gay marriage. Apparently homosexuals are the work of Satan. Can I ask you something? Really? Do you Really? He mentioned how homosexual marriage is a abomination ( unnatural ). I don't see how homosexuals are unnatural if they choose to be that way - aren't they born that way. Ok, Christianity has some good points they want to be open minded OR take the bible word for fking word. He quoted Genies Romans? I wasn't really paying attention because I was to busy yelling at myself. If you want to take the bible word for word you might want to take it into consideration that the fact...you can't eat shellfish. ...that's a sin. Or like in Judges 1:19 it mentions on how god can't defeat an iron chariot Judges 1:19 Since the lord was with Juda, he cannot dislodge those who of those who live on the plains because they had iron chariots. Or I THINK this pretty much justify incest. Go look it up. But He questioned the morality to homosexuals who are filled with ENVY and HATE, murderous thoughts. That's completely not true. Maybe they have those thoughts because there no more average then a human being, because that's what they are HUMAN BEINGS, and if you can't see that or if you don't agree with that, you don't deserve to have ANY SAY in this argument. Dear Habbo4Chirst and Friends God's little say dosen't really..make laws, the people make laws. And if it's people like you who make laws I really fear for this nations future. Some of you mentioned when people think marriage they think of a man and his WIFE, WIFE. Just because you associate a word with something dosen't mean it has to be a law. People associate FDR of getting us out of the great depression. That's wrong, it's been proven wrong. "The Roosevelt rescission" - The New Deal Plan? making us worse before Japan bombed us. That's if you know your history, that's my little analogy because people aren't always right. But GOD DAMMIT we try. I may not be the smartest person but I believe that people ALL PEOPLE. At least in this nation because that's all we can really hope for. All it's citizens have equal rights. The same right, to get married being one of those. Listen, I'm only a 17 year kid I can be completely wrong here please let me know. Maybe I'll rethink my argument. BUT if you live in this country which I guess we call the " greatest " country in the world. " You should be entitled to have the same rights as the wealthiest person, the poorest person are equal in the eyes of the law. NOT HOMOSEXUALS. They can't get married. Why? Because people quote that out of date, touch book as reasons why they shouldn't get married because as you say. MAN DID NOT MAKE MARRIAGE, MANS MAKER MADE MARRIAGE, I never really recall god making marriage. I don't remember Adam and Eve getting married. That means our great great great great great great great great great great great grandparents were all bobba children. Now, I don't want to get into a religious argument, now I want to get into a actual constitutional argument because that's what dictates our government. Section I Article: 14th Amendment states that all citizens have the same rights. It's great how hypocritical we can be because of Christianity. Closed minded, ignorant god fearing bat sh*t insane christens who would rather look good in the eyes of some fictional being then have a citizen in the same country be equal to them. HOW HOW, can you justify that. LOVE THY NEIGHBOR. It's in there but no, you call this SATAN. Your saying that homosexuals are the work of Satan? Look, if that's true Satan appears to be a better guy then god. At least he's more rational and reasonable. How can you christens and other religions like you justify this. It's ridiculous. Sorry I went on a rant, but I just ask you guys. Don't get offended. I don't think I've offended anybody. But I ask you all to just THINK, THINK. I promise you your brain wont fall out. IF YOU JUST THINK, THINK for one second. MAYBE, MAYBE we can make this world a better place. PERHAPS. I may be speaking all bullsh*t, but PERHAPS it's my little theory maybe it will work. PERHAPS Love, AntibodysDon't tell me homosexuality is a f*cking choice, yeah it's a choice I choose to live in a discriminated society, I choose to walk down the street with my partner and have to see everybody laughing, in fact my dad is homophobic so I have to be gay so he will disown me.Last edited: Simply stated: Love is not a crime. Resolved Question: Should we demand that $2,514,500 of our taxes be returned immediately?

There are 535 members of Congress who have increased their salaries by $4700.00 a year which equals $2,514,500, Should they return the money or should they impose a 90% tax on their highway robbery on the taxpayers? Automatic Pay Raises: The Senate on March 10 upheld, 52 for and 45 against, existing rules by which members of Congress automatically receive a cost-of-living raise each January unless both chambers vote to deny it. This tabled (killed) an amendment to HR 1105 (above) requiring debate and votes on congressional pay raises. Members received a $4,700 raise in January 2009, increasing their salaries to $174,000. The underlying bill would freeze pay at that level until January 2011. Sponsor David Vitter, R-La., noted that members received an automatic raise in January while millions of Americans were losing their jobs. "The system that has these pay raises on autopilot is wrong," he said. "We should have full, open debates and votes. That is what my amendment would ensure." Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., said Vitter wanted "to score political points" with a "cheap-shot" amendment that, if passed, would bring down the entire bill. more

Resolved Question: Democrat Chris Dodd tries to Undo AIG Bonus Protections He Put In. Should he be fired?

And why didn't President Obama and Timothy Franz Geithner the United States Secretary of the Treasury come out and TELL US THE TRUTH. The Democrat Congress/Dodd wrote it in as LAW for AIG to get these bonus's. Isn't it time for Obama to start telling the TRUTH? http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/markets/industries/finance/dodd-cracks-aig---time/ Tuesday, March 17, 2009 Amid AIG Furor, Dodd Tries to Undo Bonus Protections He Put In While the Senate was constructing the $787 billion stimulus last month, Dodd added an executive-compensation restriction to the bill. That amendment provides an “exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009” -- which exempts the very AIG bonuses Dodd and others are now seeking to tax. The amendment made it into the final version of the bill, and is law. Separately, Sen. Dodd was AIG’s largest single recipient of campaign donations during the 2008 election cycle with $103,100, according to opensecrets.org. A spokesperson for Senator Dodd said the senator "was completely unaware of these AIG bonuses until he learned of them in the past few days; to suggest that the bonuses affecting AIG had any effect on Senator Dodd's action is categorically false." One of AIG Financial Products’ largest offices is based in Connecticut. Dodd Amendment Rules Crack down on bonuses, retention awards and incentive compensation: Bonuses can only be paid in the form of long-term restricted stock, equal to no greater than 1/3 of total annual compensation, and will vest only when taxpayer funds are repaid. There is an exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009. For institutions that received assistance totaling less than $25 million, the bonus restriction applies to the highest compensated employee; $25 million to $250 million, applies to the top five employees; $250 million to $500 million, applies to the senior executive officers and the next top 10 employees; and more than $500 million applies to the senior executive officers and the next top 20 employees (or such higher number as the Secretary determines is in the public interest).amalone : your right. Resolved Question: The Equal Rights Amendment in the US - would this bring socialism into the US Constitution?

I'm interested in big things going on in the free world so I checked out the US Equal rights amendment. "Therefore, lawmakers and judges must be encouraged to include equitable consideration of female experiences as they deal with issues of Social Security, taxes, wages, pensions, domestic relations, insurance, violence, and more. Without an Equal Rights Amendment providing motivation, the status quo will change much more slowly." http://www.equalrightsamendment.org/why.htm "....equitable consideration of female experiences" I interpret this amendment as an attempt by feminists to use the US constitution to guarantee equal experiences for women on for example wages. In other words to use the US constitution to force wage parity in the sexes regardless of free market economics and it's influence on pay rates. If so then the meaning of "rights" will be changed from a libertarian to a socialist interpretation...from equal opportunity for both sexes being a right to equal outcomes becoming a "right". Equal outcomes for demographic groups is usually an expectation only in socialist societies and only close to a reality in communist ones. Do you think the ERA would bring socialism into the US constitution? more

Resolved Question: Legalised incompetence - how do I proceed?

I am the executrix of a will a job I took on on a solicitors advice being told it would sped up he administration of and save money for the estate of the deceased. The deceased was sadly a person who had no living relatives and my link to her is somewhat tenuous. She was under the court of Protection as she had mental disorders and was in a nursing home. I am a beneficiary, but took on the role of executrix after all the other beneficiaries refused. Things have been ok'ish - if you ignore things like the letter I had asking me to sign off an invoice that included £1000 court fees, followed by one that apologised for their error and explained that the court fees were actually only £100! (I was happy as I trusted the solicitors information to be correct they could have just as well told me it was £1,000,000 as a member of the general public I would not presume to have the first clue about court fees. So then things settled a bit until I had the final invoice for services and the accounts. There were three beneficiaries with equal shares and all predeceased, with there interest passed to their successors. 2 had one successor each the third had 2 successors. This the estate had to be divided into six, two share for the first two, and one share each for the latter 2. However the first error I noticed was that on the accounts was that they had simply divided the estate into four. Thinking this rather a stupid mistake to have gotten out of the office unnoticed I decided to take a look at the figures, in the case of one company they had dealt with, I noticed and entry had not been added to the expenses column. So I rang to mention this but before, I could state exactly which entry i was querying the other person told me they had found an error (it involved the same company but was another entry for them). She gave me a verbal correction and sent me amended accounts Whoops!!! When they came through not only had thefigurer she pointed out to me reverted to it's original sum, but the figure I had pointed out to her had completely disappeared! So I rang and complained and this time a solicitor prepared the accounts- a fourth set (the others were done by a paralegal) and what do you know, when these arrived they had several figures on them that had not appeared at all on the originals, some missing that were on the originals, and most interesting of all despite being told I was not being charged for any amendments, the net estate had gone down! Not only that but despite only having gcse maths and very basic accounting at college ( a partial module on a Btec course) I was able to identify a few more queries including the non-payment of a final invoice for nursing home care. Today I met with the solicitor and she told me I have to ignore the three previous sets of accounts, and that the final set are right because SHE prepared them. She did spend a lot of time going through them with me and there are quite a few queries she cleared up, but there are others. Like what was the source of the figures from the previous sets - I can't just ignore them each came with a form asking me to say I accepted them as being accurate as the Executor. What would have happened had I signed the first set, would the estate have been distributed without then noticing their errors? Who would be liable for any monies then owed? For the sake of bringing everything to a close I could sign the accounts off. But I know I would feel unhappy with myself morally as I take the legal implications seriously and feel I have a duty to make sure things are right, not that they are "near enough" right. We are talking total discrepancies of a few thousand pounds not massive sums to many but a heck of a lot to me, yet I am willing to leave it where it is rather than take a settlement I do not feel is correct. I have asked if I can relinquish my role as executrix but have been told this is not possible. The solicitors have advised me I can seek independent advice but I can't afford to pay another solicitor, and don't know where else to go. Besides which I can hardly imagine anyone wanting to take on a case against one of their own. Is their a professional body for solicitors I could approach or something? What about their final statement I'm not going to approve anything for preparing accounts when they are so clearly all over the place. All advice welcome this is causing a lot of stress to me individually and to my family as I have spent hours trying to make sense of these accounts, and have been stressed out and moody with everyone too. more

Resolved Question: HEY, LOOK AT MY ESSAY! is it good? ?

Classical Republicanism is the theory in which the role of the citizen is to benefit the common good through civic virtue or their dedication to government at any cost of their individual interests. The Natural Rights Philosophy does not stress the common good, or the prosperity of the government and society, but rather the interests and individual rights of the citizen. According to the Natural Rights Philosophy, individuals are free to pursue his or her own interests, and are protected by the government to do so. It was a balance of both of these philosophies that the Founders based the government upon 217 years ago and that still remains in our government today. As John F. Kennedy stated in his inaugural address: “And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you–ask what you can do for your country.” The basic element of Classical Republicanism can be seen here in his quote because it stresses the role of the citizen to uphold the government. The American government is based on a contract, the Constitution, in which the Classical Republican ideal of civic virtue is equally distributed with the Natural Rights Philosophy for the Government to protect each citizen’s rights giving America an equal balance of both philosophies. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the constitution, the definition of national citizenship is based on the principle jus soli. This principle jus soli has its advantages and disadvantages. Jus soli comes from a Latin phrase meaning “birth of the soil”. This phrase basically means that if you are born on United States territory then you are automatically a United States citizen or another words, this principle decides af person’s nationality of their place of birth. For example, a Mexican woman who crosses the border illegally just as she is about to give birth, in order to ensure that her child is born on American soil. In this way, she secures for her child the advantages of being a U.S. citizen. The mother might later return to Mexico with her newborn child, but that does not change the fact that that child is already entitled to full membership in the U.S. polity. This is how the jus soli principle is put into effect. The advantage of jus soli starts with applying the jus soli principle to the children of undocumented aliens. This has significant advantages that must also be considered, because unlike many European countries, the United States has avoided the “second-generation immigrant problem” because it has no second-generation aliens. Furthermore, such application is in keeping with the United States' constitutional character and has eliminated the possibility of a "hereditary caste of permanent aliens." The main disadvantage of the principle jus soli is rich foreigner’s unfairly taking advantage of jus soli. this started years and years ago with rich Israelis traveling to the United States to have their children in order to provide their families just in case situations arrived in Israel that were too tough to handle. Our issue with this is that there are too many people holding American passports who speak poorly of the United States when really the laws concerning jus soli are the only thing keeping them from being thrown out. For an example, nowadays, you see more and more full-blooded Turks with American passports who constantly badmouth the United States. They seem all too happy, though, to use their passports to get into American schools, to attend American universities for less money than they'd have to pay if they didn't hold such passports, and frequently end up living in the United States because there are more flashy clothes, cars and houses to buy. With such attitudes in place, do such people really have the right to American citizenship? They've already made it clear that they don't like Americans or fully appreciate what the American government's given them, so why let them in on American citizenship? These are the advantages and disadvantages of using the jus soli principle in our world today. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This principle is also stated in the 14th amendment of the Constitution and was established in 1868. Saying: “All persons born or naturalized in the United Sates and subject to the jurisdiction there of, are citizens of the United Sates and of the state wherein they reside.” As a group, we disagree with this statement because of its focus and support of dual national citizenship. We disagree with this mainly because of conflicting loyalty issues. The United States does not allow a citizen to serve in the armed forces of another country, run for a political office of another country, or swear an oath to another country. Yet, these people that acquire dual national citizenship not only have to be loyal to the United States but have to have that same amount of passion of loyalty for more

Resolved Question: Why Wont So Called Christians Release Repentant Criminals?

Concerning Matthew 18:25-35 Passages "He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion" Proverbs 28:13 "For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; Mercy triumphs over judgment." James 2:13 "The merciful man does himself good, but the cruel man does He harms." Proverbs 11:17 Please read and pay attention to whole detail of outline so you won’t give a stupid response. Their are practical forms of legislation and social reasoning that can confirm the logos behind what you may deem in prejudice ridiculous Please Don't resort to stupid insults and slander either Note: Don’t say give to Caesar what is Caesars that’s basically calling America the reborn roman empire in which case its satanic and to be destroyed by the Stone that is Jesus Think of it this way can you say that when you’re spiritual you refuse those seeking mercy and charity and condemn those who ask for it to hell. Can you say when you’re feeling nostalgic that incarceration prevents crime and repeat offenses? Recidivism rates would argue against your flawed logic. Can you state that change of behavior and rehabilitation comes from external means or is it an internal development? That being said why anyone would believe in changing their behavior when they have no reason to and while they dislike prison it really fairs little punishment but to those few who are preyed on and many of them are divided from population (Some however are not and receive unfair cruel and unusual punishment). So why should anyone want to change or believe in god when we ourselves show hypocrisy in our hearts and actions how then can such individuals make internal changes needed for true rehabilitation that without released into society after incarcerated actually makes the public more a danger from the inmate who has become psychologically warped from the lifestyle of incarceration and given little helpful tools but to network and make more contacts creating a more intelligent and dangerous criminal Now for legislative logos statistics show increased cost of funding in criminal justice and punishment has in no way reduced crime in fact just the opposite we are seeing a trend of increase 5 times the average we are also seeing a dramatic increase in cost and prison over crowding while sociology experiments are showing that merciful acts in state show a dramatic reduction in crime such examples were taken during the Vietnam war and drug rehab center legislation prior to mandatory minimum sentence concluding it just feels good and costs a lot in fact white color crimes are said to be more expensive to jail then a hospital bill and drug offenders on average are more expensive to jail then rehab programs Yes put away violent offenders but their are alternative punishments to non violent offenders or at least reduced sentencing The real question we should be asking ourselves is what is the correlation between incarceration and crime rates experts say their is none that incarceration does not equal change in behavior so for all our incarceration are we really safer experts say no Can we draw out a public safety plan that is fiscally sane remember your flipping the bill for these people The answer is yes many bills offering programs without sentence or reduced sentence are offered part of religious rehabilitation program even with violent offenders in church services and anger management but because of republicans and conservative Christians this bill has been shot down Also we must come to the moral realization that prison is in no way fair punishment I mean that the punishment is not equal to all inmates and that constitutes a moral ethic of unequal punishment both in Case judgment and sentencing and prison accommodations as well for a select minority cruel and unusual Prison does not fair equal to all people You have leaders soldiers fish etc not preventing such action of prison gangs running prisons is unconstitutional under the eight, ninth and tenth amendments in the bill of rights I think corporal punishment if agreed upon should be administered by government not by underground seedy organizations like prison gangs that are obviously cruel and unusual in addition safety regulation has occurred for prison inmates increasing Co Officers and was effective in Texas but the law was later removed by you guessed it Conservative Christian republicans Quote: To repeat same activity expecting different result is insanity. Do we not do that with the aspect of incarceration seeing only increase in prison populations? Note: The Separation of church and state is just a clause How Is Church and State Divided? Ok I know The U.S Constitution right; the first Amendment Congress shall pass no law that is in favor of any religion, but didn’t a bunch of Christians just pass Prop 8 making lies successful saying it was about the definition of marriage more

Why?Princess K: As far as the mandatory service goes, that is really based on whether or not you want the privilege of voting. Note this service is in the defensive national guard, not the regular military. Our Founders said defense of this country is the duty of every citizen and if you were unwilling to do so, we neither want nor ask for your council.Istainjaa: You pay for the voluntary health care. The program is based on using the buying power of an entire state to create a lower price structure, much like a larger company can get lower rates than my little business with 10 employees. Currently the Federal government supports unemployment. Federal charity is unconsititutional.Malcolm Equis: I've sent you an email to help clarify since my response is to long winded for an "edit".Erick: It is a Federal insurance program you pay into. Actually our proposal uses non-profit insurance providers that bid for States. So technically the federal government only outlines the minimum program requirements and monitors performance - the providers do the rest. Federal charity is unconstitutional, so any assistance programs would have to exist at the State level.Pampoulmouse: The 15th week was selected based on the development cycle of a fetus. During the 15th - 18th weeks the fetus develops a cerebral cortex, which allows an individual consciousness to form and therefore the possiblity of emotional harm develops. Prior to that it is little more than a growth.James L: I do not support isolationism. I do support non-interventionism. The internal affairs of another nation are not our concern, and we should respect their national sovereignty if we expect them to respect ours. Trade is the key to diplomacy. Most of our current issues on the world stage evolved from interference and maintaining a cold war military structure. Bad ideas. My attitude is we will leave you alone until you give us a valid reason not to. Then we should punish you for it.Spock for Prez: 1. Why the need to add the bit about transfer of custody? We already have systems in place to allow adoption of a foreign child. My neighbors just adopted a Russian baby. 2. How does your marriage amendment protect liberty? 3. Interesting thoughts on the religion issue.Wyomugs: 1. Yes. Yes I expect that if you are going to log into Yahoo Answers, at whatever time you choose to do so, that you will be able to comprehend the questions posted there - regardless of their depth. Considering I posted this closer to 1am in my time zone, at 11:50 you should be rested and ready to go. 2. Yes. Yes I know the agenda set forth here is hard. Does the fact that something is hard make it less worthwhile to do? Where would we be if our Founders had said, "Revolution is hard, we probably shouldn't."? How many doctors would we have if they said,"Meical school is hard, I think I'll quite before I start."? Those who focus on the obstacles never see the goal. 3. No. I am not a Libertarian, but I am an individualist. I'm certainly not a Democrat or Republican. I support the Constitution and the political ideals of our Founding Fathers, but I'm not a Constitutionalist - to much church and state. 4. Are you saying I'm right-wing or you are? more

"Americans Flunk Basic Civics" But boy, do we know our American Idol. However you regard the outcome of the November 4 election, it was heartening to watch 125 million Americans cast their ballots at precincts from coast to coast. Unfortunately, they and the many millions more who skipped the whole thing collectively know frightfully little about the government we just reaffirmed, the principles that undergird it, and the basic documents in which those ideas are enshrined. Thus, Americans slouch into the 21st century — a free and confident people blissfully unaware of how we got here or how we shall continue our 232-year-old tradition of limited self-government. Consider these staggering data: - Fully 71% of Americans flunked a 33-question civic-literacy survey conducted by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute. Among 2,508 respondents ISI randomly selected, 1,791 failed this test of U.S. historical, political, and economic basics. The average score was just 49 out of 100 — a solid F. While just 2.6 percent scored Bs on this quiz, only 0.8 percent earned As. - Just 49% of rank-and-file Americans can identify the legislature, executive, and judiciary as our three branches of government. - 40% of college graduates have no idea that corporate profits equal revenues minus expenses. (Thus, congressional demagoguery about “windfall profits” falls on sympathetic ears.) Only 24% of college grads realize that the First Amendment forbids the establishment of an official U.S. religion. Amazingly enough, this sample’s 164 self-identified elected officials know even less than laymen. They averaged only 44 — the blind leading the bland. Among office holders, 30% did not know that the Declaration of Independence heralds “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” However, "We the People" closely follow popular culture here in the United States of American Idol. Only 21% of respondents correctly identified Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg address as the source of the words “government of the people, by the people, for the people.” But 56% properly named Paula Abdul as a judge on the karaoke sensation American Idol. God help us! “Our study raises significant questions about whether citizens who voted in this year’s landmark presidential election really understand how our system of representative democracy works,” said Dr. Richard Brake, ISI’s Director of University Stewardship. Lt. Gen. Josiah Bunting III, the chairman of ISI’s National Civic Literacy Board, describes his initial reaction to these results as “somewhat short of despair, certainly one of depression.” He adds: “These questions are designed to elicit answers to fundamental questions. A citizen should know that the president cannot declare war. A citizen should know the circumstances of the founding of the country.” Bunting calls our 24-hour news culture part of the problem: “If you watch cable news channels, you see three or four streams of information,” he says. “This has nothing to do with using your mind as a muscle.” Instead, Bunting and ISI hope to make “state legislators, governors, senators, and representatives active agents of change.” With taxpayers underwriting some $114 billion annually for government-subsidized university education, Bunting believes “every student should be steeped in Western culture, U.S. political, economic, military, and diplomatic history, and free-market economics.” Released Thursday morning at Washington’s National Press Club, “Our Fading Heritage: Americans Fail a Basic Test on Their History and Institutions” is online at www.AmericanCivicLiteracy.org. Beyond a sobering analysis of this survey’s findings, readers can test their own civic literacy. The grim results of ISI’s study reveal a crisis in this nation’s defining concept. In 1776, America’s Founding Fathers broke with Britain and established a country where men and women liberated from monarchic despotism would rule themselves — provided they were equipped with the requisite knowledge and wisdom. Will a people mesmerized by the televised humiliation of wannabe pop stars maintain this essential capacity for self-government? Thomas Jefferson’s warning remains as timely as ever: “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free . . . it expects what never was and never will be.” Founded in 1857, the National Education Association (NEA) is the nation’s oldest—and largest—teachers union. The NEA lobbies elected and government officials on everything from government funding of education to school safety to teacher pay. The union is a staunch opponent of school vouchers, which would allow parents to use government funding to send their children to private school. The NEA suffered a major blow in summer 2002 when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled vouchers constitutional. The union has had its share of controversy. Bob Chase, NEA’s high-profile president who stepped down in summer 2002 after two terms, was seen by some critics as advoca more

Resolved Question: i need history whizzes....................................................?

After the Civil War/War Between the States, women not only continued to lead the fight for improving all kinds of living conditions, but the took an increasing interest in public affairs. They proved themselves capable leader of the movements they supported. Clara Barton, who had helped the sick and wounded in the Civil War/War Between the States, founded the American Red Cross in 1881. She was for many years its able and energetic leader. Women like Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were leaders of the National Woman's Suffrage Association. They overcame ridicule and strong opposition in their efforts to win equal rights for women. The growth of industry also helped to change the old beliefs about women's rights. As factories and businesses multiplied, more and more opportunities outside the home were opened to women. The wages women received in these jobs gave them more freedom. New industries also turned on laborsaving aids to help women in their homes -such aids as gas and electric stoves, vacuum cleaners, electric refrigerators, and washing machines. Housework became easier, and women had more time for interests outside their homes. Many colleges, formerly limited to men, now accepted women students. A number of women's colleges were founded. Because the opportunities for college education were greater, women were able to enter the different professions. Women Win Suffrage Changes such as those we have mentioned made it seem less and less sensible to deny women the right to vote. By 1900, four states west of the Mississippi River had approved woman suffrage (they had granted women the right to vote). Leaders in the battle for women's rights had to fight long and hard to bring suffrage to all American women. These leaders wrote newspaper articles and gave lectures. They even paraded before the White House to awaken the public to the need for this reform. At length, the Nineteenth Amendment (1920) was added to the Constitution, extending the right of suffrage to women. Women in all parts of the country voted in the election of 1920. Since that time they have taken more and more interest in government. Women today not only vote, but hold many offices in our national, state, and local governments. {The periodical, ]"The Woman Rebel", told the working woman that there is no freedom for her until she has this knowledge which will enable her to say if she will become a mother or not. The fewer children she had to cook, wash and toil for, the more leisure she would have to read, think and develop. That freedom demands leisure, and her first freedom must be in her right of herself over her own body; the right to say what she will do with it in marriage and out of it; the right to become a mother, or not, as she desires and sees fit to do; that all these rights swing around the pivot of the means to prevent conception, and every woman had the right to have this knowledge if she wished it… I resolved, after a visit to France, where children are loved and wanted and cared for and educated, to devote my time and effort in giving this information to women who applied for it. I resolved to defy the law, not behind a barricade of law books and technicalities, but by giving the information to the workers directly in factory and workshop... (Source: Margaret Sanger, "Comstockery in America," International Socialist Review) The Industrial Revolution was dawning in the United States. At Lowell, Massachusetts, the construction of a big cotton mill began in 1821. It was the first of several that would be built there in the next 10 years. The machinery to spin and weave cotton into cloth would be driven by water power. All that the factory owners needed was a dependable supply of labor to tend the machines. As most jobs in cotton factories required neither great strength nor special skills, the owners thought women could do the work as well as or better than men. In addition, they were more compliant. The New England region was home to many young, single farm girls who might be recruited. But would stern New England farmers allow their daughters to work in factories? The great majority of them would not. They believed that sooner or later factory workers would be exploited and would sink into hopeless poverty. Economic "laws" would force them to work harder and harder for less and less pay. The Lowell Experiment How, then, were the factory owners able to recruit farm girls as laborers? They did it by building decent houses in which the girls could live. These houses were supervised by older women who made sure that the girls lived by strict moral standards. The girls were encouraged to go to church, to read, to write and to attend lectures. They saved part of their earnings to help their families at home or to use when they got married. The young factory workers did not earn high wages; the average pay was about $3.50 a week. But in those times, a half-dozen eggs cost five cent more

Resolved Question: I am outraged by creeping socialism in the United States. When do we rise up and stop it?

The United States was created because the British unfairly taxed Americans and regulated our ability to practice free-market commerce. But since day one, socialism has gradually eliminated one free market principle after another. Here is but a short list of creeping socialism in the United States: - Socialized education, started in the liberal la-la land of Massachusetts in the 1830’s, creeping in every state by 1870. - The 14th amendment, ratified in 1868, restricts the right of southern plantation owners to follow free market labor principles. - The Sherman Anti-Trust Act of 1890 which limits the ability of businesses to grow freely. Isn't that the goal of business? - A tax on income, the rightfully earned money of the people, created in 1913 by the 16th amendment - The securites acts of 1933 and 1934, which takes away free stock trading by corporate directors, officers, and employees. - The Taft-Hartley Act of 1935, which severely restricts the right of businesses to fire workers who engage in business-killing practices, like strikes or organizing into unions. - The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 put severe restrictions on the ability of children to work as they choose, and severely restricts the right of companies to set their own wages with junk like a minimum wage and overtime pay. - The Equal Pay Act of 1963 and The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 put even more severe restrictions on the right of companies to set their own wages in a free labor market. Are you as outraged as I am about this erosion of our rights? And all this by a government specifically created by the Founding Fathers to eliminate government intervention into our lives. I say let money trickle down as it theoretically should, instead of getting the government involved just because it happens to trickle up most of the time instead.OK, people, wake up. Are you really against ending slavery, child labor, overtime pay, and unequal pay. It's a joke, people. more

Resolved Question: Why shouldn't everyone in a country (maybe in the future the world) receive the exact same pay as another pers?

on? What I mean to say is lets say you want to be a business owner. The reason you should want to be a business owner is because you want to do this. Since your doing this it makes you happy. Just like think like scratching yourself and putting make up you do it freely (ill get to laws soon). So if you want to do it you do it. But lets say you started selling cat food and you made $50 million/year (your company). Then we the people would take this money and add it to the total money made by everyone. If you where an employee or an employer you would get the same salary. So you could be a business owner if people would like your products. I think we as a people would agree on what prices have to be and they would stay the same. Then we can create a government where we all are completely involved. There would be no dictatorship, no president all of us would have the same voting power as the next. In fact we can make this in a form of democracy. Considering we would agree to this “government” (like we supposedly agree in a democracy), we could still have police as a job like we have now and other positions we have now (like fire fighters) . We would all agree on laws like we agree on bills now. So only the people would decide what laws we want, and if the people change there mind then great the laws change. The law system would be complexly an eye for an eye, so actual justice could occur. So if you committed a crime you thought wasn’t a crime then great you would be “punished” with the thing you did. So if thought spitting on people would be ok then you would just be spat on. So if you thought that being a drug dealer is ok then you would also become a drug user. Now if you where a drug user it would be ok because there is no eye for an eye because there is no come back and it is therefore ok. So we can have and let Everyone decide (like referendum or congressman anyway the people would decide which way). The most important factor is that we all would be equal in terms of the law and in terms of access to things. If you are a person with moral ethics then I’m not sure why you don’t believe all men are created equal. If you do, then you shouldn’t (yes shouldn’t not wouldn’t) believe that everyone deserves complete equality. This does not have to be like any source of government. There will not be any leads that have power. We all would have the power. Nobody would get convicted if people thought his act wasn’t a crime because everyone would have the same power. You would not put someone in jail because you would understand that loss of freedmom was not the answer. The key thing to remember is that this source of government would be simple everyone (every single person) would have the same power. There would not be politics like we have today. There would not be a dictatorship, nobody as an individual would create this government we all would do it, so we all would believe it, and it would be the best society out there. Also in your answer can you answer why disagreeing with the fundamental principal of equality is not selfish. See if you believe in an individual then you should also believe in the society. Because the individual is poart of the society, and we all make the society, so every single individual is important to the society. I don’t think any group should be choosing how to run the country or the world, I think we should control it. Now if you say you won’t work well, then so be it. I’m ok with it. You can be as lazy as you want. Great! If that really makes you happy then wonderful, because you’ll be living in this society just like me. And there is even a good chance that you’ll feal guilty and question the meaning of life and contribute. I’m just wondering if people saw and where educated (not propagandized) about the true importance of equality then they just couldn’t say no because then they would fundamentally believe there better then someone and if they did I’d ask them questions like why do you think we should protect you or why do people protect you. Why are odds favoring you, in food health or even life. Why does one die but another lives (in a situation like a mass murder). We say like god help us but we live and others don’t. That’s the whole problem. There is no equality! That’s actually the only problem in society and government. And yes every single right in the constitution (if your thinking USA) would be protected. Well go ahaid, use that wonderful first amendment right granted by open individuals who wanted to limit government corruption (this is not a government this is people creating a society) Nope not a pot smoker. I just know simply that if people believe in unequality, probabims occur., That's exactly why power struggles occur because people wonder why should he have power why was this vote fair, why is he the priest why why why? Equality. The only answer. With it we actually succeed. There is no butchery. Now if you want to be a telemarketer I have no problem, I'll still continue to be who I want to be. Equality as hard as it seems is the only way to succeed and resolve all political / social issues. more

Resolved Question: “Ladies nights” specials discriminatory? Is it discriminatory and hypocrisy! What should be done to stop this?

Roy Den Hollander is a New York lawyer is suing night clubs. http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08/18/lawyer-files-antifeminist-suit-against-columbia/ Roy Den Hollander argues the clubs violate the 14th Amendment Constitutional rights, which requires equal protection under the law for similarly situated persons. The clubs have no LEGITIMATE reason for treating males and females differently in their admission policies. That being said I ONE HUNDRED PERCENT agree with Mr. Hollander. I think that people need to realize that equality means equality no ifs and butts. I truly don’t understand why there are people (men and women) that still disagree with calling “Ladies Night” a discriminatory act and/or calling it something else. Here are a few of the excuses that people use to justify this: 1. “The problem here is that Ladies night was primarily invented for MEN, not women. The idea is to get ladies to the bar so that men will come as well.” #1 WTH? Generally a female is the first to jump up to go to a night club than a male. Either way this does not justify why night clubs can discriminate against a group. For crying out loud! A Night clubs is a business there are other ways to get people to show up, perhaps if they offer 50% off for EVERYONE. I am not a business person but that wasn’t really hard to come up with and I am sure there are plenty of other ways to promote a night club without discriminating anybody. 2. “Guys drink a helluva lot more booze than women. But guys don't come for the booze, they come for the girls. Simple logic: more girls = more guys = more booze sold = more money.” #2. WTH!!!?? ARE YOU SERIOUS?? So if a certain race watches basketball more than the other race it is ok to NOT to charge them to watch the LA Lakers game in the staple center? Last time I check if a person really wants to go to a basketball, soccer, foot ball game they will pay FULL price to go. Same thing for a night club if a person really enjoys going to a night club they too will pay FULL price. 3. “Interfering with the business practices of a private establishment is never a good idea, let the market rule.” #3. “Free market, business practice etc.” I AGREE! This is America charge how little or much you want but for EVERYONE not because of a person’s SEX, age, nationality, race, religion, sexual preference, etc. A night club should have on Fridays a “white people night special” see how that goes see if people agree with that. Is no difference “ladies/white/green eyes night” it is what it is discrimination!! 4. OK. then they need to get rid of ALL student discounts, military discounts, and senior citizen discounts #4 -–Sarcasm spam-- Yeeess get rid of it then! Why not add unpatriotic on your list next to discriminator. (-–Sarcasm spam--) If you really feel that a soldier that risk or gave his live for you to serve his country then take away his discount. Difference is that he volunteered EARNED it served or is serving his time. He was NOT born in the military he has total controlled of it. This is 21st century and discrimination still exists and it will continue to exist as long as there are people making excuses for it and calling it something else. For those people that come up with excuses and call it something else or thinks that it’s ok Not a big deal, I hope one day your son/daughter/husband/wife/father/mother tells you that they didn’t get that promotion or was treated differently because of their sex/age/nationality/race/sexual preference, and you can look at him/her straight in the eyes and make an excuse or call it something else. Finally to my question Am I the only one that thinks this is discriminatory and hypocrisy! What should be done to stop this?USERNAME: Evie’s alter ego “They do it for you!” I bring the females that I want to hang out with not the hoochies or ugliest one that get in for free and take up the space.. please I don’t need favors from a night club USERNAME: Reallypablo What about the case of DeCrow v. McSorleys’ Old Ale House, Inc how would you explain that? more

Resolved Question: How would women benefit from anti-feminism? What if we got rid of "equality" legislation since the 1960's?

What would happen if we got rid of all the legislation related to equal pay, sexual harassment, equal education, pregnancy discrimination, paternal/maternal employment leave, marital rape, and violence against women, that have been passed since 1960-how would women (and men) benefit from anti-feminism? This would be some of the legislation that would be erased: 1963 The Equal Pay Act passes, requiring equal wages for women and men doing equal work. It is the first federal law prohibiting sex discrimination. 1964 The Federal Civil Rights Act passes, including Title VII, which guarantees equal opportunity in employment. Title VII is the statutory basis not only for equal opportunity and sex discrimination cases, but, as a subset of the latter, sexual harassment cases as well. The Civil Rights Act creates the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to enforce workplace equality. 1972 Title IX of the Education Amendments Act passes, guaranteeing equal access to academic and athletic resources regardless of gender. 1975 Congress opens U.S. military academies to women 1978 The Pregnancy Discrimination Act becomes federal law, recognizing that discrimination on the basis of pregnancy is discrimination on the basis of sex. The PDA guarantees pregnant women who are capable of working the right to do so, identical to employees with other, but similar, medical conditions. The Act also mandates that employers provide the same benefits to women at any stage of pregnancy, delivery, or recovery from delivery when they are medically unable to work as to all other employees with temporarily disabling conditions. It also forbids workplace discrimination against women based on the mere possibility of pregnancy. 1993 The Family & Medical Leave Act becomes law, based on the research and policy initiatives prepared by the Women's Law and Public Policy Fellowship class of 1985-86. President Bill Clinton selects the FMLA to be the first legislation signed in his presidency. President George Bush had twice vetoed similar bills. 1993 All 50 states make it illegal to rape your spouse. 1994 Passage of the federal Violence Against Women Act creates penalties for interstate stalking and other gender-based crime.  more

Resolved Question: If you were for Hillary,. how can you vote for McCain and his stance against equal rts. for women?

He stated that "instead of legislation allowing women to fight for equal pay, they simply need “education and training“: This is for women who do the same exact job as a man with the same level of competence. He also doesn't want to just overturn Roe vs. Wade, but supports an amendment that would ban abortion. As a Hillary supporter, are these issues not of importance to you? Do you want to go back 50 years to where a womans place was barefood and in the kitchen?http://www.salon.com/opinion/conason/2008/04/11/mccain_abortion/I hope you all will read the comments from Harbinger...it's the same as McCain. more
