Open Question: Is My Landlord Liable? Can I Sue?

Recently my apartment was broken into and robbed for the third time. At first I thought I had misplaced the items, but I called the cops after the second time. No sign of breaking and entering, so I'm thinking someone has a key. My landlord insisted that only he and I have the keys. I have always lived alone and never lost, loaned or copied my keys. I always suspected a certain tenant because he was home alot and always watching, and knew the hours I've been working the whole time I've been here. He moved after the second robbery. A 3rd robbery occurs and then my landlord tells me that my "new" lock wasn't actually new but came from that same tenants's door! I was livid! I said "He has a KEY to my apartment and you neglected to tell me?! Does he KNOW I have his old lock?" My landlord said he does know, but doesn't believe it's him. Then he tells me he felt responsible so I wouldn't have to pay december's rent. The next day, he tries to renege and says can I pay half the rent because now, after talking to his gf, he remembers that I do not have the former tenants lock on my door. I said we have a verbal agreement, and he backed down. But overall I am out of $1000+ worth of stuff, and not paying rent for a month doesn't equal the value of what I've lost. Can I sue my landlord? I have a witness to him saying I have the former tenants lock on my door, and that the tenant knows this. In my police report for the third time, I told them that and also there wasn't any sign of forced entry, the apartment was locked when I returned each time. What do you think? What would you do? Now, after changing my lock the next day, he didn't even take my key to that lock back, when he gave me the keys to the new ones. Now I could possibly have the keys to the next new tenant's apartment, which leads me to believe his first statement of having placed that former tenants lock on my door and that tenant still having the key and knowing it. By his own admission, although he later recanted, my landlord gave me that tenants old locks, and I have a witness. If I went to small claims court, would I still have to prove this fact because it was done before I even moved in.  more

Open Question: Could Obama and the liberals become dictatorial?

Could an Obama presidency and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid's house and senate become quite undemocratic or even dictorial? I mean one,voter fraud, ACORN had obviously tried to steal the election and all Dems know but obviously don't care. I mean, I'm not saying Obama didn't win fair and square but, the idea he supported that pathetic voting-fruad organization, goes to tell you that the Dems do show contempt for our democracy and don't really care how they win. Two, It appears that Obama wants to create something called "Civilian National Security Force" and GOD knows what that means, police-state, maybe, which would be equal to our military, whatever that means. He's already made something samilar in his campaign in Missuori, such as the Truth-Squad, don't believe me, look for some article on google writing "truth-squad". Three, democrats have this thing about whatever they see, they have to nationalize it. Including banks, 4O1K, social-security, healthcare, and whatever they touch it magically become part of the government. Four, They wanna reinstate the UN-fairneess doctrine which would put equal but opposing political views solely on conservative talk-radio. another problem with the fairness doctrine isn't that it would be wrong to have two opposing opinions in a debate, but, the idea that it would force the business producer to have to pay for both views, so in other words, limit of free speech. Who knows, maybe they wanna state-control media all together. Five, it seems they wanna limit things from the press aswell, especially Obama's radical and abviously frightnening associations with real racists and terrorists, including Bill Ayers. It seems you can't ask a simple question to Mr. Joe Biden about Obama's socialist plan of spreading the wealth without being harrassed, example, Barbara West, news-anchor in Orlando, Florida, husband getting investigated for whatever liberal and retarded reason. And it well also keep the congress which for now is democrat-controlled from investigating any suspicious typical democrat behavior. Six, Sara Palin warns of democrat one-party-rule, now before anybody asked, yes I do support Palin. My grandfather (whose white) was heavily into fighting for equal and civil rights for blacks, woman and all races back in the 60's. I am so happy he lived to witness this historic event. He cried for hours election night. Everyone in my house hold did. He always tell me tales of him and others marching in Alabama and how the police sprayed them all with water hoses and let the dogs out on them. So it's a great week for all.  more

In the 1960's, to protest segregation, African American's would do 'sit-ins' at diners. Maybe, we could have 'fuquins.' We could go to church, government, or other outdoor places with swarms of us. I mean hundreds and hundreds, and go to places and just have sex in public. We could use society's bigotry and homophobia against them. Committed partners, but the hundreds, going to small towns with weak police forces and small jails... and doing this beyond the town's capacity to contain, all over... until they agree to give us equal rights of marriage. The people who dont like us are never going to regardless. They are religious extremists, and extremists cannot be swayed by logical arguement or conjecture. It would be important to be all committed couples, or it would set off that image. The idea, we are here... we are queer, get used to it... one way or another.. I think it's an awesome idea. @Jennifer.... It is the same thing. I wonder if Indians (of India) were angered when MLK compared his struggle to theirs in his appeal for peaceful protest. We always welcomed people from other states & gave them equal opportunities to prosper. We always thought in larger interest of country. Inspite of Shivsena’s agitation against other communities we never supported them. You can check the records. Shivsena came to power only once & that too only because of division of votes. But after Jaya’s utterance, Lalu’s policies & Kripa Shankar’s back stabbing we feel we were wrong. Voting Question: President Obama - Can we now have an equal playing field?

Now that Obama has been elected, I really hope this means that we (as in the people, a country) can move on from affirmative action, special provisions for black Americans, and all of the double standards that exist, i.e BET (Black Entertainment Channel), Black-centric media publications, Black only schools, and the list goes on and on. For what it's worth, I don't consider Obama a black person but black Americans have certainly claimed his as their own. Women Earn Less Than Men In Today’s Society Women in the United States of America’s workforce today still face inequality in pay; earning less than men in today’s society. Women earn less than men primarily because of sexual discrimination, motherhood, and sexual harassment. However, some scholars refute that women earn less than men. In fact, some scholars argue that women chose to make less income than men, and that women do not make less than men because of sexual discrimination. Women in today’s society should have the same socioeconomic status as men; as well as the same opportunities and pay in the workplace . Women have been fighting for rights for centuries up until now. The first action that took place was the Women’s Right Movement which started in 1848 in Seneca Falls, NY. The convention meeting among the women would be the first step in history towards equal rights for women. The Women’s Right Movement began to change the perception of the way they were looked at in society. The women rights movement focused on equal pay for women, education, and property rights. In the 19th century a bill was passed in 1963 called the Equal Pay Act which deplored sexual discrimination from the workplace. However, women in the 21st century today are still being discriminated against and paid less than men even though it is violating federal laws. Sexual discrimination in the workplace against women is common among corporate businesses and small businesses. Women are sexually discriminated against because of society’s Biglow 2 view of gender roles and being that we live in a male dominated society. Women often face occupational segregation; it is believed that women can’t hold certain positions such as drive a forklift, be a carpenter, a miner or several other occupations because of their gender this is equal to sexual discrimination. According to the article “Women Still Earn Less Than Men Because of Sex Discrimination” written by Evelyn Murphy and E.J. Graff “Employers still flatly refuse to hire fully qualified women into a wide variety of jobs: forklift drivers, firefighters, salespeople, electricians, regional managers, stockbrokers, senior executives. Or they hire women, but refuse to promote them—as happens to grocery clerks, police officers, university professors, and management analysts” (Women Earn Still Earn Less Than Men pg2). From this above statement we can examine that women are expected to do jobs within their gender role. Gender roles play a big part in sexual discrimination because gender roles are the behavior norms associated with being a male or female. For example, men are supposed to be the provider and take car of the family’s finances and women are to be mothers and raise the family and do cooking and cleaning. Women lose thousands in earnings over a lifetime because of sexual discrimination even if the are college graduates. According to the same article it reveals “ A college graduate loses $1.2 million. A young woman who graduated from college last spring and went right to work would, over her lifetime, make $1.2 million less than the young man who received his diploma next to her” ( Women Earn Less..). This proves that being a women and having an education doesn’t guarantee that she will earn top pay because the man next to her that earned the same degree than her will earn more than she does in a lifetime. Motherhood is the best experience a women can accomplish in life, but when you become pregnant, and are working, it can become a problem. Women who choose motherhood Biglow 3 have the hardest time figuring out when they should tell their employer because they are afraid of discrimination, demotion, or a pay cut, and getting their schedules to work around being a mom. According to the article “MOTHER’S ARE DISCRIMINATED IN THE WORKPLACE” it states “Today, 72 percent of American mothers work outside the home, yet companies have been slow to adapt to their needs with part-time or flex-time schedules” (Mothers Are Discriminated In the Workplace). From the above passage, it can be seen that companies aren’t adapting to mother’s and their needs which causes men to be more in demand and women to lose out on earnings that could put them in the lead for equal pay. Sexual harassment is also a major reason why women earn less than men in the workplace. Many times, when women report sexual harassment, they either get fired or demoted. For example, when women make reports of sexual harassment, they are often demoted or fired because they decided to expose that they were violated. According to the book Sexual Harassment of Working Women by Catharine A. Mackinnon “ Sexual harassment threatens women in their jobs. It “hinders” women in getting, and keeping a job” (Sexual Harassment of Working Women pg 206). From this statement, it shows that sexual discrimination can be a serious factor in employment. There are TWO reasons that I know of. ONE is that when a gay person goes to the hospital, gay unions do NOT allow the partner to visit the one who is sick. This is discrimination and is unfair. Would YOU want you mom and dad or brother to NOT be able to visit YOU in the hospital for some legal reason? Next, is that when a gay person dies the partner is deprived of his/her assets. The family comes down and steals all of their memories, and all that they have worked together to achieve and they take all the pictures and keepsakes. This is NOT right! But if you vote yes on 8 you are teaching your children to hate and to grow up as Haters, like their parents who voted yes on 8 (H8). The goal of an economy? The total goal of an economy is to maximize total surplus. At first we might come to think of this as maximizing consumer and producer surplus. Now, the idea of maximizing the well-being of every individual may at first seem troubling and partly haphazard. It may be true to some degree, but not totally. If we understand, for instance, that the government has to produce some goods, e.g. education, police protection and fire protection, we realize that the market is, indeed not perfect. The idea that markets maximize welfare is something that turns out not to be true. Markets create inequalities of many sorts. The idea that markets are the best system is troubling and leads us to much debate. The problem is that if we have poor people, we must have, in some ways, a poor system. Now, the arguments to improve these inequalities usually are higher taxes, higher wages or both. It seems as if there can be no other answer. The problem is that, as has been observed, if we try to cut the “economic pie” into more equal pieces the pie gets smaller. True though it may be, it may also be completely false. We don’t know because we do have income inequality in our economic system. We need equal opportunity first and foremost. But, this is an absurd idea. No two people can have equal opportunity. Every aspect in life would have to be the same. It’s just not possible. We have to; instead, realize that we have limitation as to how far individuals can go. Recognizing this make us also recognize that the economic pie can only be so large. But, is the idea really to maximize the size of the economic pie? It would seem absurd that based on our productivity; the pie brought to the party is not to be divided equally. We see that John gets half the pie and we are to never understand how this situation could ever be considered fair nor right. Absurd though it might be, it is the true situations to which we bring ourselves. But, if you cut the pie, this causes a problem in itself as well. It is to be assumed that the pie will get smaller. But, could we not expand the pie and then divide so the pie turns out to be the same size? I think we can. I believe the goal of the economy is the maxamize total surplus. Total surplus= consumer surplus+producer surplus consumer surplus is the difference between what you were willing to pay and what you actually payed. producer surplus is the difference between the cost of producing a good and the price of the good. markets maxamize total surplus. Question: What would you do if you were president? Awnser: If I were president then I would cut back on government aid that are given to people who are able to work and just choose not to. I would then take that money that was not beng abused and put that towards helping the homeless and poor get a college education to allow them the finacnial freedom. From there I would make laws strictor on murderers,rapists and molestors, etc... And make the judgements on any crime equal to the next person. The next thing would be making English the only language to be spoken in America and make any person wanting to live here learn the language other the than us having to learn other peoples. However, in 1999, the State collected Rs 65.35 crore in revenue; gave Rs 15 crore for temple maintenance, and diverted Rs 27 crore to Madrasa development and Haj subsidy and Rs 8 crore for church development. No details were available about the use of the balance Rs 17.35 crore. In 2000, the temples generated a revenue of Rs 69.96 crore, but received only Rs 13.75 crore for maintenance. The Madrasa-Haj subsidy rose to Rs 35 crore. In 2001, temple revenue further rose to Rs 71.60 crore, while maintenance grants shrank to Rs 11.50 crore, and Madrasa development funds rose to Rs 45 crore. Church development received Rs 10 crore. In 2002, the State received Rs 72 crore as revenue, returned Rs 10 crore for temple maintenance, and granted Rs 50 crore for Madrasas and Rs 10 crore for churches. Hindu friends protest that this studied neglect of temples under the direct control of the State Government could cause as many as 50,000 of the 2.6 lakh temples in Karnataka to close down within five years. Many ancient temples are in extremely poor condition, and their managements and priests carp about inadequate funds. Even salaries are not disbursed regularly, and priests are forced to survive on donations made by devotees in the aarti plate. In neighboring Andhra Pradesh, the Government withdrew a demand for Rs 36 crore from the Sri Venkateshwara Temple at Tirupati in July after a public furore and litigation in the High Court. There is, however, a move to take away temple lands and distribute them among poorer sections in the name of social justice. Around 3,000 acres of temple lands have been identified for takeover. The police department in Chesapeake, Virginia holds a policy exam for its officers. The thirty top scorers on the exam are made eligible for promotion. This year, the city of Chesapeake has considered invalidating the results of the exam, because all of the top thirty scorers were white males. The city has contracted an analyst to determine if the exam was biased against minorities and women. Here's the problem... Of the 144 candidates who took the exam, 135 were white men. Only nine of the examinees were either women or racial minorities. Assuming that all other things are equal, how many women or minorities should we expect to be in the top thirty, on average? Also, what is the probability of the actual outcome (ie. that all thirty top candidates would be white men)? Any help at all would be appreciated, but anyone who can tell me HOW to work this kind of problem gets ten points. Thanks!  more

Voting Question: I'm having a Hatfield and McCoy situation with a neighbor down the street. ?

A woman down the street is one of those people that think she's better than everybody! Mine and hers 14 year old sons are also best friends. Last week I was driving down our street on my way to work when she drove past me and yelled out her window f***en bi**ch and then she pulled over and stopped as if she were waiting for me to come back. However, I kept driving because I'm not about to get in a fight and I had to be to work. When I got to work I called my husband and told him what happened. He went to her house to ask her like and adult what was going on. She told him I gossip about her to other neighbors which is not true. I guess she got mad at my husband for confronting her because while he was walking away she kept yelling to him things like just wait until my husband gets home. A few hours went by and my husband was leaving the house when her husband came running up to his cab, he's a cab driver, yelling profanities about what he was going to do to him. He then proceeded to pull my husband out of his cab window but he got loose and drove away. A few minutes later I got a phone call at work from the police saying that the people down the street called them and were pressing charges against my husband for trespassing and harassment. They said there were witnesses saying that she was telling my husband to leave when he went to here house and that he wouldn't go when in reality she was telling him to wait for her husband. I told the police that when her husband tried to pull mine out of his cab there were people down the street on their porch and they saw him assaulting my husband so they should go speak to them and get a witness statement but they said no, it's not their job. However they got witnesses statements from the people across the street for them but they won't do it for me. When according to my husband nobody was even across the street so there witnesses are lying. I even went to the house where people were on the porch and asked them if they would speak to the officer and they said they would but when I called the officer to tell her to speak with them she said no, that they would have to go to the police station and speak with her. I just think it's not fair that they will speak to her witnesses but not ours. I always had faith in our justice system that all people are equal in the eyes of the law but now I see that it's not true. The woman and her husband are prominent people in our community, they own a bakery and are part owners to one of the best restaurants in our town, she's also a member of our city council. I am just an assistant manager at Wendys and my husband is a cab driver. Still I thought what's right is right and what's wrong is wrong, but I guess I was mistaken. My husband was arrested today for trespassing and has to go to court Friday morning. My question is what should he do? Should he plead guilty and pay the fine that we can't afford or spend 15 days in jail, which we also can't afford. I can't afford a lawyer to get the charges dropped, besides the fine will probably be less than the lawyer. Or should he plead not guilty and see what happens? Is there anyway I can take this higher? Is there somebody I can contact about my concerns? I don't agree with whoever said I'm gossiping about her now because I'm not. I'm simply explaining what happened and she's a major part of the story. Everybody says don't plead guilty but the police say the lady has witnesses so most likely he'll be found guilty even though her witnesses are lying. I don't understand why the cops wont go talk to our witnesses, they said it's not their job. So I could call the police and say that she came to my house and threatened to slit my throat and have a friend of mine back up my story and have her arrested even though it would be a lie? Because that's exactly what she's doing and it seems she's going to get away with it. There's got to be something I can do about this. How can somebody make up something and have you arrested for it?  more

I am a student, house sharing with 3 Chinese people. I am the only British person in the household. I respect their language, culture - everything.... but they do not respect me. After 2 years, they still do not know my surname (even though i have continually told them, showed them etc) and so they disregard my letters, they treat me not as an equal person, when i walk past the living the room door they slam it shut (even though i should be allowed in there), they do not speak English when i am in the room and recently they have started doing exaggerated laughs when i am around. They can understand English, so it is not a lack of understanding on their part. The landlord is also Chinese, so he is biased towards them. I have many deadlines at the moment, so cannot move and besides, i do not want to move as i like my room and i will not allow these people to drive me out just because i am not Chinese. They are not explicit in their racism, so its difficult for me to go to the police. How can i get revenge on my housemates? I have thought of putting salt in their wine, laxitives in their milk, even getting cat food and chopping it up and putting it in their food. Any other suggestions?  more

Before when we were dating we had a pretty equal relationship. In fact most people called him whipped and things like that because he was so good to me. Now, we have been married a year and he comes home exhausted, takes him temper out on me becuase of work (he comes back anywhere between 6 and 9) and a few times he has thrown a dish or cup or two at the wall and punched a hole in the wall. I know it doesn't have anything to do with me. Voting Question: My Personal Take on Domestic Violence, Do You Agree?

I am writing this because I want to be fair even though I am somewhat of a feminist. A male friend of mine who is a good man got assaulted by his wife, she has a size and weight advantage on him and legitimately beat the mess out of him. She then called the police and he went to jail despite having bruises on him. I hate to say it, but women are out of control to. Yes, generally speaking men have a strength advantage, but it is time to get out of the stoneages (A difficult concept for many of the teenyboppers on this site I have noticed) sometimes the women is bigger or stronger. I am tall and work out a lot, so I could probably do some damage, but regardless it is irrelevant. Domestic violence is wrong on both sides and while I don't think a man should ever hit a woman first or if he weighs 250 lbs and she weighs 90 he should try to restrain her first, but the bottom line is if you keep pounding on someone they have a right to defend themselves regardless of gender and as females if we are stupid enough, if the guy is stronger to attack him first, then we should expect to get popped back for being stupid. I am a person who hates double standards and frankly I must confess it is sexist that women can hit men, but men can't defend themselves.As a fighter for women's rights, the only way we are going to achieve that is to act like we are truly equal. Men have a lot of advantages in the work places, etc due to sexism, and that pisses me off because I hate sexism of any kind. On the issue of domestic violence, that is one area where I admit men get shafted. To be fair, I also think they get shafted on child custody issues, while women often get shafted on deadbeat fathers who refuse to pay child support.  more

The only "authority" one should need is to look at the Declaration of Independence for the only reason for the establishment of an American government: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed..." (Emphasis mine) This of course is repeated in "state" constitutions such as Arizona: "governments ... are established to protect and maintain individual rights.” Arizona constitution article II § 2. This is why standing and jurisdiction must always involve a plaintiff's rights. I'd really appreciate your opinion. I feel the sexual offender laws are too strict, for not all sexual offenders are equal and their cases should be reviewed. I too am sick of shoving tax money out the window housing people in prison who aren't a risk to our society. My brother met a girl inside a 21 & over NightClub in California, she had a fake I.D. , they hooked up and lived together for about a week, they got into an argument and she went to the police and accused my brother of raping her, it turned out she was only 13 years old. Geesh I wouldn't have known her age, she was 5'11 and looked older than me, so looks can be deceiving. At court I learned 2 other men she accused of rape and they were still serving time behind bars. Now my brother is considered a high risk sex offender, child molester, lewd and lavishes acts with a child. He's considered by many, even his fellow inmates as the scum of the earth. Well, he lost his business and his home while incarcerated for 3 years, he's got three years to be on parole with his electronic monitor. He's pays $ 10 a day for his GPS ankle bracelet. He's required to pay restitution. He's required to visit psychologist once a month. Even after his parole is up he will still be required to wear his ankle bracelet is how the law is written today. He's not allowed to live under the roof of our mother and I because we live near a school. He sleeps on the streets at night and stays with us during the day. He's always been a hard worker and can't even find a lousy job since his release from prison. He's depressed and always afraid of being rearrested and thrown back into prison. I'm afraid my brother is at high risk for suicide and I truly believe many people behind bars had bad council or their so called criminal circumstances out weighed common sense. Time to do something about this ??? or keep shoving money out to house people in prison who should be working, living and becoming productive citizens in our society ???? Or are we be content to lump all sexual offenders in one ball and consider them the piranhas of our children/society ???  more

Resolved Question: License suspended because of no insurance in accident? what do i do?

Ok, so i got in an accident, my car had insurance but it didnt cover me or the damages. The damages equaled up to 560 dollars in cost so i did not report it to the DMV. The police were at the scene of the accident and took info down. My question is, i printed out an H6 and it says my DL is suspended for failure to report accident, and no insurance. It also says requirements: FR PRF REQ, and REISSUE Fee due $55. This is weird because ive been pulled over in the last year and noone has told me i have a suspended DL. how do i get my license back  more

on? What I mean to say is lets say you want to be a business owner. The reason you should want to be a business owner is because you want to do this. Since your doing this it makes you happy. Just like think like scratching yourself and putting make up you do it freely (ill get to laws soon). So if you want to do it you do it. But lets say you started selling cat food and you made $50 million/year (your company). Then we the people would take this money and add it to the total money made by everyone. If you where an employee or an employer you would get the same salary. So you could be a business owner if people would like your products. I think we as a people would agree on what prices have to be and they would stay the same. Then we can create a government where we all are completely involved. There would be no dictatorship, no president all of us would have the same voting power as the next. In fact we can make this in a form of democracy. Considering we would agree to this “government” (like we supposedly agree in a democracy), we could still have police as a job like we have now and other positions we have now (like fire fighters) . We would all agree on laws like we agree on bills now. So only the people would decide what laws we want, and if the people change there mind then great the laws change. The law system would be complexly an eye for an eye, so actual justice could occur. So if you committed a crime you thought wasn’t a crime then great you would be “punished” with the thing you did. So if thought spitting on people would be ok then you would just be spat on. So if you thought that being a drug dealer is ok then you would also become a drug user. As for the current case, Ms. Amazing insists she left Sure Thing long before the murder took place, but we've found no one to corroborate this alibi. The Su-Su Train travels at 65 mph; the Sugar-Plum Ferry travels at 10 mph, and the trolley goes 30 mph. He points out that because each leg is of equal distance, Grace traveled at an average speed of about 35 mph (i.e., the average of 65, 10, and 30). Since she went a total of 36 miles (three legs of 12 miles each), this places her squarely in the midst of the crime scene (he says). My son is 9 w/ ADHD and extreme impulsivity. At 1yr. he was developmental delayed. Dad moved to AZ about 3 yrs. ago & didn't tell us. Son has been through therapy & medications & in special ed w/ me. Had a rough road in school, but the teachers loved him. He gave me alot of trouble so this past June I agreed to send him to his dad. This is what our son wanted. Now son calls crying, hiding under bed, in his closet, he says he is afraid of his dad, he shakes when his dad yells & son wants to move back home to me. He says he hates his dad. Dad won't talk to me on the phone, just laughs & says "send me child support". Dad never took son for parenting time long term. Just weekends when dad lived here. I hate to hear my son cry. I want my son back. Dad took him off all meds, he is struggeling in school & now suspended for 4 days for teasing 8th graders! Dad hasn't gotten his hair cut ever, hasn't taken him to the dentist for his spacer since some teeth got pulled, didn't take him to get orthotics, just went to drug store & bought shoe inserts, didn't buy him clothes or new shoes for school, son is wearing the same tennis shoes I bought him last winter, and I know they are too small! teachers are going to talk to the dad tomorrow. ALSO, dad leaves child home at 2am while dad goes to work, dad calls son at 6:15am to wake up & get ready for school. Then a lady takes him to school.This is child neglect & abuse, medical neglect. His school here really worked w/ him but saw that maybe he did need to be w/ his father & we wouldn't know until we tryed it. Resolved Question: Why do so many women get so mad when you show the facts that this country is sexist against men ?

At age 18 it is required of males only (not females) to enlist into the selective service system or draft as it is commonly called . Granted the draft hasn't been used in over 30 years now but males are still required by law to sign up . Those who refuse to sign up lose their driving privileges by law . Also they are denied all college financial assistance if they refuse to sign up , that includes both grants and loans . Females have no such requirements and face no such penalties . The whole system is entirely sexist against men . Some numbers to also consider . Over 200,000 American men gave their lives in WWII ,less than 300 women . Over 50,000 American men gave their lives in the Vietnam conflict , less than 100 women . All wars bear similar figures . In police forces around this country , men overwhelmingly give their lives in service compared to a pittance of women . The same is true in fire fighting fatalities , mining deaths, construction fatalities , off shore accidents and in every single field where people lose their life on the job . Does anyone hear men complaining ? No ! Yet men have been under attack from every direction imaginable in this country for well over 20 years and no one has said a darn thing . For too long women have invaded every single institution that men once had as safe-havens and this from military schools to elementary school sports to everything in between . This as they have ranted and screamed about having equal rights . Doesn't matter if they are not physically capable of producing anywhere near the same amount of work or that some men in some positions have worked their tails off to get rewarded for their effort , women scream and whine and complain that they should recieve the same pay even though they can not produce the same work . It is the same in everything , they demand equal everything but responsibility . I agree with equal rights entirely but I also believe that this country should demand equal responsibility from ALL citizens . If men are required to sign into the selective service system then women also should likewise be mandated by law to do so and face the same penalties if they refuse . Reverse arrirmative action should mandate that the military and all dangerous occupations in this nation be filled 50% men and 50% women . If enough women do not apply for these dangerous positions then the selective service system should draft them and see that the positions are equally filled by men and women . We after all DO want equality don't we ? There should also be a law that if a woman is convicted of whining and screaming that she wants equality that she be drafted and sent to the front lines . That is equality . That is what we want isn't it ? Or do we want archaic sexist regulations that offer equality in rights but deny equality in responsibilities ?  more

Voting Question: I had to freestyle write for English....does it sound okay or stupid?

We were given a picture and were to write about whatever came to mind...story, whatever. It was a picture of a set of train tracks with a building standing afar. The first thing it made me think of was the Holocaust. This subject really touches my heart and so I thought of it right away. ***************************************** The noisy and rusted train continues to rattle on as these tall buildings creep on closer. As we approach this unknown territory I feel my heart begin to crumble. Feelings of depression, anxiety, anger, sadness, regret. They all go against me like a pack of wild dogs scraping for a piece of meat from a strayed animal. What is to become of us? Will we ever see each other again? Are the people running this place going to treat us fair and equal? These questions ran in circles through my mind. I have to say that we are quite fortunate compared to other families. We were lucky enough to go this long without being caught by the German police. News came back from several of our lifelong friends going into these camps, and so far nothing is said about any of them returning, at least alive. I am scared of what may come next. What will they do to us? I am only thirteen years old and yet to live, and my mother and father have done so much good to have their lives end in such agony and pain. All because we are Jews! Isn't God supposed to watch over His chosen people? Does God even care for us at all? Heck, I don't even know if there is any reason to pray anymore. The back of my mind hopes that there still is a reason to believe. I lost my home, and I lost my freedom. Soon enough I could lose my family, and all thats left is a little pinch of faith. Thank you for the advice in the edit. We did these in class, and had to turn them in or else I would change that part and extend it. Perhaps I will just for fun! I want to ask about two different situations, so If you answer, please give me two answers in one post, relating to both situations: 1) I had an Ipod nano 3rd generation up for auction two weeks ago. It had a starting bid of £10, and a "buy it now" option for £220. The £220 covers postage, packaging and because the Ipod is pre-loaded with over 20 albums etc. as well as various accessories that equal over £250, but I decided to sell it for a little less and it had a scratch on the silver casing. I had a few bids, and then I received an email from somebody. I have since lost the email due to problems with my email client. The email was from someone going by the name of "Frederick Roosevelt" and their address was somewhere in America. This person said that they would buy my Ipod instantly for £280, which is odd as the buy it now was only £220. But, me being new to Ebay, thought I had struck gold and accepted. Sure enough, he won the bid (he bid £280, and nobody else matched it) and within a few days, the full £280 ended up in my paypal account. So then, I sent the item off and thought that would be the end of it. 2 days later, I have an email telling me that the £280 was refunded to the recipitent as the item had failed to have been delivered! WHAT?! I sent the item off, but he has told Paypal that I took his money and never sent the item. I contacted Paypal and said that this was NOT the case, but they seem to think otherwise. I contacted the guy who had deceived me, but he has not sent me anything back. I keep contacting Paypal in the effort that something will happen. They keep telling me over and over again that they are looking into it, but they never get back to me. Since then, this guy has closed both his paypal and ebay account and for some reason, his email address no longer exists. How on Earth do I get around this? Can I file a complaint with the police/law enforcement? Will I EVER see my Ipod again, or at least the £220 I was asking for it?! :( 2) This relates to something I purchased a few weeks ago. In fact, this was the first purchase I made on Ebay, and I was new to the whole thing. I saw a laptop on sale for a cheap price. The laptop was a very good model, and the buy it now price was just £125. So, I decided I would purchase this there and then. I made payment via paypal the next day aned the seller emailed me telling me that the item had been sent off and would be with me on 8th September. The 8th September came, and no laptop. I emailed the seller. He said there may have been shipping problems, and said he would contact me with a new estimated delivery date. As I said, I am new to Ebay so I did not detect any funny business at this point. A few hours later, he emails me telling me that the new delivery date will be 12th September. 12th September comes, no laptop. I email him telling him that If I do not have it by 17th September, which Is tommorow, then I would demand a refund from Paypal. He aplogises and says it will definitley be here for 17th. However, I received a package yesterday that I was 100% certain would be the laptop. I opened it, and it was just a concrete slab. No laptop, just a concrete slab in a box. The box it was sent it has the name of the laptop on the front. So, I emailed him asking wtf he was playing it, but have since had no reply. His Ebay account has been closed, as has his paypal account. I contacted Paypal last night, they said that they would "investigate" and I will be contacted by them in "due course". My question is, how long will it take for them to refund me, and will they require any proof that all I received was a slab of concrete? I would greatly appreciate help from you guys. I shall be VERY careful when purchasing from Ebay in future, as I have already been asked to ship to Nigeria which I immediatley knew to be a scam. The result: He called the police and made a false report claiming that my husband has strangled, hit, and burned my son with a cigarette. There is no evidence, but he somehow got my son to tell the police this happened. My husband was arrested and spent two weeks in jail until I bailed him out. He got a lawyer. Currently the lawyer is working on having the charges dropped. Apparently he's a pretty good lawyer, because we spent $7000 on him. My question: After my husband is proven innocent and the charges are dropped, we plan to sue my ex. What can he be sued for, and will he serve time in jail? We live in the state of Maryland. I asked the lawyer, but he said right now we just need to focus on getting the charges dropped. I wanna know NOW, lol.  more
