Equals I Want Be There Questions asked

Open Question: any number raised to the power of zero equals 1. how?

ok, ive read many theories and had them very similar to mine. mine was if x^n that means x will be multiplied by itself minus 1. something like x^n= x(x)^(n-1). dont start equating that, its just my theory. so lets say 5^1 will equal 5(5)^(1-1) 5(1) 5 becuase 1 is neutral so 0 will make it devide 5^0= 5(5)^0-1=5(5)^(-1)=5/5=1 this is so far my theory which works great so far. but it has a limit. if x=0 then this theory hits a wall. cuz 0^0=1 in the books and the calcultaor. but not with my theory cuz 0/0 is infinity/error. anyone has better luck with this. all other theorys and formulas fail at this point! can anyone explain how 0^0=1?  more

Open Question: I translated this text, could you check it,I'm not native?

And he finds the literal synonym for the specific word and in case of having enough information about target language finds a suitable equivalent. In more advancement level makes an equivalent. Knowledge about the etymology of words is important not only as a help for understanding them, but also in finding and making equivalents (for technical and specialized idioms). For instance, if we look adenotomy up in English to English dictionary, we will find that this word is a combination of adeno with Greek etymology that means tumor (knot or wen) and –tom suffix with Greek etymology that means cleave (separate) and –y suffix that is a noun making suffix. The literal meaning of this word that is "to cleave tumor" will be found by simply adding these components. And now it has made it easy for finding equivalents such as "cleaving tumor" or "separating tumor". But this point has been mentioned only as the advantages of monolingual dictionaries; other wise, making equivalent is such a delicate, vigilant and watchful job that needs skill (craft), domination, having experience and great technical knowledge. The beginner translator should avoid making equivalent. And he should mostly try to find common and available equivalents and equals. This subject (issue) makes us discuss translating scientific and specialized texts and using specialized dictionaries which needs other opportunities. One of scientific rules that can be mentioned in the field of translating scientific and specialized texts is that words have particular meanings in gamut of every science and specific technique. So it's necessary to refer to dictionary and idiomatical dictionary of that branch more and more.  more

Open Question: Suicide out of curiosity?

Hi, I am 18 and am about to finish my first semester of college. Throughout my life I've been a happy, optimistic, but dangerously curious person. Lately I've begun thinking that all this studying, work, and whatnot is completely arbitrary, I don't exactly see the reasoning behind doing all this just so I can get a "job" and "make a living". Waking up, going to work to SELL my time, time I can't get back, for a few meager pieces of paper that some man, who is my equal as a creature, says that I need to get food. I don't agree with currency, it makes people greedy and I hate this fascination with jobs and careers just so you can pull the money to eat and stay alive. It sounds just like slave work, except they are getting paid now so they don't think they're enslaved. Anyway... I could rant a LOT about that, I'm actually writing an essay about it soon for my English class. Though lately I've thought, if this is my destiny, to sell my time and get put on a leash for some person I only know as "boss", who tells me how high to jump, I don't care for that. I'd rather move into the woods and attempt to live there instead of selling my time to some corporate tyrant. Sometimes I think of suicide in a humorous manner, not depressed at all, I've never been a sad person really, I like to look at the bright side of things. Suicide appears to have a bright side, I can remain independent PLUS I can figure out what happens after we die, win win right?  more

Open Question: Help me with this Java Program Code Please?

In a while loop, execution of a set of statements (the body of the loop) continues until the boolean expression controlling the loop (the condition) becomes false. As for an if statement, the condition must be enclosed in parentheses. For example, the loop below prints the numbers from 1 to to LIMIT: final int LIMIT = 100; // setup int count = 1; while (count <= LIMIT) // condition { // body System.out.println(count); // -- perform task count = count + 1; // -- update condition } There are three parts to a loop: The setup, or initialization. This comes before the actual loop, and is where variables are initialized in preparation for the first time through the loop. The condition, which is the boolean expression that controls the loop. This expression is evaluated each time through the loop. If it evaluates to true, the body of the loop is executed, and then the condition is evaluated again; if it evaluates to false, the loop terminates. The body of the loop. The body typically needs to do two things: Do some work toward the task that the loop is trying to accomplish. This might involve printing, calculation, input and output, method calls—this code can be arbitrarily complex. Update the condition. Something has to happen inside the loop so that the condition will eventually be false— otherwise the loop will go on forever (an infinite loop). This code can also be complex, but often it simply involves incrementing a counter or reading in a new value. Sometimes doing the work and updating the condition are related. For example, in the loop above, the print statement is doing work, while the statement that increments count is both doing work (since the loop's task is to print the values of count) and updating the condition (since the loop stops when count hits a certain value). The loop above is an example of a count-controlled loop, that is, a loop that contains a counter (a variable that increases or decreases by a fixed value—usually 1—each time through the loop) and that stops when the counter reaches a certain value. Not all loops with counters are count-controlled; consider the example below, which determines how many even numbers must be added together, starting at 2, to reach or exceed a given limit. final int LIMIT = 16; TRACE int count = 1; sum nextVal count int sum = 0; --- ------- ----- int nextVal = 2; while (sum < LIMIT) { sum = sum + nextVal; nextVal = nextVal + 2; count = count + 1; } System.out.println("Had to add together " + (count-1) + " even numbers " + "to reach value " + LIMIT + ". Sum is " + sum); Note that although this loop counts how many times the body is executed, the condition does not depend on the value of count. Not all loops have counters. For example, if the task in the loop above were simply to add together even numbers until the sum reached a certain limit and then print the sum (as opposed to printing the number of things added together), there would be no need for the counter. Similarly, the loop below sums integers input by the user and prints the sum; it contains no counter. int sum = 0; //setup String keepGoing = "y"; int nextVal; while (keepGoing.equals("y") || keepGoing.equals("Y")) { System.out.print("Enter the next integer: "); //do work nextVal = scan.nextInt(); sum = sum + nextVal; System.out.println("Type y or Y to keep going"); //update condition keepGoing = scan.next(); } System.out.println("The sum of your integers is " + sum); Exercises 1. In the first loop above, the println statement comes before the value of count is incremented. What would happen if you reversed the order of these statements so that count was incremented before its value was printed? Would the loop still print the same values? Explain. 2. Consider the second loop above. a. Trace this loop, that is, in the table next to the code show values for variables nextVal, sum and count at each iteration. Then show what the code prints. b. Note that when the loop terminates, the number of even numbers added together before reaching the limit is count-1, not count. How could you modify the code so that when the loop terminates, the number of things added together is simply count? 3. Write a while loop that will print "I love computer science!!" 100 times. Is this loop count-controlled? 4. Add a counter to the third example loop above (the one that reads and sums integers input by the user). After the loop, print the number of integers read as well as the sum. Just note your changes on the example code. Is your loop now count-controlled? 5. The code below is supposed to print the integers from 10 to 1 backwards. What is wrong with it? (Hint: there are two problems!) Correct the code so it does the right thing. count = 10; while (count >= 0) { System.out.println(count); count = count + 1; }  more

Open Question: CA Supreme Court agrees to hear Prop. 8 appeals...thoughts?

The CA Supreme Court has agreed to hear Dennis Herrera's (SF County attorney) lawsuit that Prop. 8 violates the equal protection clause of CA's constitution. He contends that to amend something as sweeping as equal protection for a group of minority citizens ( CA Supreme Court recognized gays as protected minorities in its original decision), requires a constitutional revision. A constitutional revision requires 2/3 approval of the House & Senate, THEN voter approval. Since the house and senate is overwhelmingly controlled by Democrats, it is assumed that if Prop. 8 is ruled unconstitutional, a revision will NOT pass and gay marriage will again be legal in CA. It would be very very improbably for a 2/3 majority opposing gay marriage in the legislature to ever come about in CA....it is more likely that (like Massachusetts), voters will forget about gay marriage and summarily tolerate it (as they can witness that it will not lead to the end of the world)...Also, people would be less likely to take rights away if those rights are legal for years as opposed to month. IMO: If Prop. 8 is ruled a revision, gay marriage will be here in CA to stay. If not, then I'm not sure. The Prop. 8 appeal hearing is scheduled for March, with a decision in 90 days. What do you think the outcome will be? Anyway, just wanted to report on this development.  more

Open Question: Do you see any universities in the U.S. surpassing any of the Ivies? ?

It used to be all ivy, but there seems to be a lot of schools that are on equal footing like Berkeley, Stanford, University of Chicago, Northwestern, Duke, and more. Do you see any other universities rising up to be on more of a ivy level? I'm thinking maybe USC which has made great strides, good public universities like Penn State, Michigan, and Texas. Keep in mind that this is just pure speculation for the fun of it. Do you see any universities, either those above or any others, reaching that plateau? Oh yeah, I also think that the university being built by the Saudi Royal family called "Kaust" should be an interesting one to watch too. lol I know that, but I'm just about the overall school. Open Question: Bastards in middle ages. A history question?

My brother keeps arguing that bastards basically had no rights during the middle ages (and before). I told him about William the Conqueror, who was born bastard but became king of England, he said that he did it thought war, and he was right. I think he's biased on history from one region only, and hasn't looked at the bastard in general, eg) Spain, china, Russia, Europe, Arab countries, ancient civilizations, etc. Can someone give me examples with CITATIONS (link is fine, or names at least so i can look it up), to prove my brother wrong? I'm sure Bastards had it hard for being bastards back then, but i'm sure not every culture treated them badly, and i'm sure that some civilizations gave them equal opportunities, however i was born late last century, so i may not know anything.... Your knowledge is appreciated. Thanks.  more

Open Question: Is abortion and gay marriage.........?

Really that important right now? The economy is going to $hit...and the globe is heating up...... It is absolutely possible to be concerned with more than one thing....but I agree with Renee. Our OVERALL lively hood is being threatened right now. And I believe in fighting for rights...Im Black. Its such a huge distration. And as long as we are distracted and arguing with each other.....the govt. can get away with whatever they want. They know we cant come together.. And just to keep it 100% real......Abortion will never be outlawed. Abortion will be something that they keep us arguing about from now until eternity. It will never happen. Open Question: Will heaven be a communist autocracy?

I'm not that aware of other religions, but based on my background Protestant Christianity I couldn't help but wonder. It couldn't be representative democracy I don't think, because God is supposed to be the king, which seems autocratic. And I don't understand how private ownership is supposed to work "up there" Wouldn't everything in heaven belong to "the state", or God? Open Question: I know it was my idea. Should I be upset? What should I do? Should I feel like this?

I've been dating this girl for 6 years and we have a very laid back relationship with lots of love and trust. I talked her into a 3-some with my very best friend of 15 years. She said "no" at first and then the more I brought it up she finally said "If that's what you really want and it will make you happy". I know they both care about me and we all live together and I just wanted to do something wild. One night we kinda sprung it on him while we were drinking in the apartment. I started taking off her clothes in front of him and he kinda knew what was going on. He walked over and she took off his shirt and pants while she was naked. Everything was slow, fun, and perfect until he took off his boxers. He had a huge, girthy, 10 inch member! I'm just an average 6. Anyway it was kind of too late to turn back. When he took his turn she was biting the pillows and squirming like I've never seen before. I thought she was putting on a little show until I heard like a 10 second pulsating fart noise. After hearing it for 3 seconds I looked down there and she was squirting a large amount of liquid all over his balls and belly button!!! I never made her do anything like that. When it was my turn I was expecting a little of the same actions. It was definitely more erotic than normal, but no squirting caged animal action. I thought maybe she was kinda done and tired. He took another turn and it was the same thing again but with added screaming AND more squirting. We did her 4 times each since it was so hot. Each time it was the same thing with him and the squirting. Should I be mad I can't make her do that? He never mentioned he had a monster down there. I never really thought about that happening. I've never had complaints and thought I could hold my own. Don't get me wrong. She wasn't rude or paid him more attention. She gave us equal time if not more to me. He wasn't showing off or anything. He actually never even kissed her which I thought was cool. Nobody has said anything and everything seems normal at the apartment, but we all know how hard he was making her blast and that I wasn't. It was a fricking mess. Do you think it's her turn to bring in a woman? I don't know. What do you think of this whole thing? I know I'm stupid so you don't have to remind me when you answer. I feel horrible and humiliated as it is. Do you think she was having such intense orgasms because of the excitement of a new dude or the big member thing or what?  more
