Are Men Women Really Equal Questions asked

Open Question: Why is it One of the commandments of jesus is to love thy enemy, but Christians are constanly persecuting?

Why must humanity live life blind. Instead for a single moment..actually stop to think about things rationally. Christian women, to the bible it is a sin to think you are a equal to ANY christian man,period.... in the bible it states a woman shall not speak her mind in church, for such is a disgrace, she may keep quiet till the end and ask her husband questions as they get home?? Do you still feel so much faith in your god now? OF COURSE YOU DO because you are controlled by fear, the fear of what comes after death, the fear of life not going right unless you have the favor of your imaginary friend. Why do you think christianity is the most common religion in the U.S....you are simply looked down upon as a individual if you are not thus. Even in the past christians were constantly known to kill people for not converting, does your god sound so beautiful now? They can constantly put down such simple things of human expression to make it sound like a "devil" is controlling you...such as piercings, gay people, tattoos,"bad words", etc etc... It is not right to hate people, you should try your best to care about everyone and make this world better But you do NOT need a imaginary friend to help you obtain friends, help the poor, save the innocent. that completely depends on you and you alone. Dont believe in the one who believes in you. Believe in yourself, that's all it takes. No complicated ritual get together bullshit about it more

Open Question: Have women made ourselves unequal to men?

heres something i found and it was an eyeopener: Thinking back to myself girls always say something like revealing their self is how do you say it, empowering. But if you really look back it is how you say demeaning. I mean this gives guys the right to think their better than us. They can make a stereotypical picture of us that rather than empowers us it demeans us. We have acomplished so much in this country of ours. I mean we even have an african american president. But for some reason wome have infact taken a down turn. If you really look you can find revealing photos of women anywhere you go. People wonder why girls have eating disorders its because those airbrushed girls or those stereotypical drawings make girls think that have to look like that in order to make guys look like that. In fact thats why girls are wearing a lot less its to get attention from those same guys. Would the people fighting for Women's Right look at us and be ashamed because instead of trying to focus futures of bright young women we are exposing them instead? I think so. Since when are the Pussycat Dolls a good role model? They wear barely anything out in public. Is that suppose to make men respest women? No wonder most men don't think of us as individuals. We demean ourselves. Why is Hilary Clinton always percieved as bad? So shes not a hot young model and her clothes are not revealing, does that really make her any less of a politian? What if she were a man, the would you vote for her? I saw a poster of Bratz dolls, the children toys. They were barely wearing anything. What I am really wondering is why someone would think thats a good toy for young girls? They are going to think well if the Bratz doll wears it why can't I? Then why can't she. Infact if girls are going to act like this, posing in racy shot and barely wearing anything, what future do they have anyway. Yes some girls are very accompished but look aroung and you will see what i see. We are not equals and we did this to ourselves. For shame, for shame because we can learn just as well as mean but we are not taking advantage of that. I am ashamed of what we are and have become. People do not fight for our freedom so we can walk around in skampy little outfits. It disgusts me. I am so mortified that I can even express exzactly how I feel about this. If we really want to be respected and treated equally is up to us to act like it. Wake up and smell the coffee it is time for a change. By Linda Marison more

Open Question: Why don't the women play best of five like the men in the Major's. Australian, French, Wimbledon and U.S. Open?

If there is equal pay, then each man and woman should have to earn it. I think many of the women are fit enough to do this. Does any one else? more

Open Question: If men are the head of women, just as 'Jesus is the head of man'?

...(1 Corinthians 11:3), but men and women are also equal, does that mean men are equal to Christ, or that men and Christ are just equal participants in a team, both contributing the same amount? (no need to answer if you do not believe men and women are not equal). 1 Corinthians 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man;Jemma J: It's in the New Testament.loladrewblue: So, in your experience, families where women make more of the decisions are less stable and happy? more

Open Question: I'm an Anti-gay Atheists. I have a question for Atheists.?

If the masses can be psychologically tricked into having a mass God Delusion, the masses can also be psychologically tricked into having a mass Gender Identity Disorder. What do you think? 1. Kids will grow up seeing their mother kissing a woman who dresses like a man 2. Gay soldiers will be making out with each other during war and possibly get blown away by their enemies during the process 3. Straight people will be considered the crazy ones 4. There will be an increase of physical medical problems due to males poking each other in the bootie. 5. Straight parents could no longer trust their daughters to spend the night at their female friends house. 6. Several people will no longer enjoy the mother and father figure in the house 7. Kids will be raised to feel guilty if they don't participate in the gay life style. 8. Straight males have to live with gay men constantly coming on to them and they have to be nice or be accused of being a gay basher. 9. Gay men with power will have straight men do sexual favors for compensation 10 straight men who resist gay men will be considered equal to a racist. about me http://www.myspace.com/charliecheckm more

Open Question: When I hear the word 'rights' i think legislation....so what 'rights' do women not have?

I'm really talking about the WEST here I know women in the East are oppressed. But what is the list of rights from a legal perspective that women do not have compared to men? Like men are by law undeserved in the breakdown of a family, I.E. divorce settlements, child custody. This would be the only really LEGAL manor in which men are discriminated against on basis of sex. Every other problem men suffer from is due to some sort of prejudice or afraid of looking sexist toward the woman, PCness etc.... So what LAWS do not grant equal rights to women. BTW, bear in mind it is ILLEGAL to pay women less money than men on basis of sex. So i don't want to hear crying about unequal pay. LOLBetty - Yes that's what I though. There is no way women do not have legal rights in any field. Maybe the military is legal problem but I'm sure that's more to do with chivalry on the higher officer's part. It's seems women have every legal right along with men. The problems between the genders are social not legal. more

Resolved Question: Do you believe in separating public/professional lives from private/personal lives...?

Do you believe the separation of these two tends to result in seemingly 'conflicting' beliefs for many people? Example: Someone who publicly/professionally is very 'modern', but in their private/personal lives is very 'traditional'. I'm thinking more specifically of the argument that many women want to be seen as equals publicly/professionally, yet they expect a man to make the 'first move', pay for dates, etc. Or, a man who is very 'modern' minded as far as gender equality goes, yet wants a 'traditional' marriage to a woman who will be a stay at home wife and Mother to their child/ren. Do you see that as a conflict in beliefs? Or do you feel it's reasonable because who we are publicly/professionally is often different than who we are in our personal lives/privately?Reb - Hahaha, maybe a little. Not in a bad way though, it's come up so often here that it was just a matter of time. I give you full credit for being the one to push me over the edge though, in the most endearing way possible! =o)Good point about the consistency vs. inconsistency. The example for the woman reflects my own 'spheres', and as much as I expect and looked for the 'traditional' man romantically, I offered him the same. No inconsistency there. Looks like I may have totally misunderstood your point before, Reb. I think in the end we actually agree on this one. Thanks to all who've answered so far, definitely an interesting read! =o)hat - You're missing the point I think; read the additional details. To use Reb's example, I expect my boyfriend to move stuff around, and he expects me to do the ironing. We both agree this, for *us* as a couple, is how it "should" be. Compatibility; we sought out the traditional in one another, and have our 'modern' exceptions that we both agree on. This isn't referring to a "picking and choosing" type of scenario, it's about the various "hats". more

Open Question: Should marriage or business partners take high level offices in order to uphold?

private interests of previous administrations? Or, is this directly related to the Constitutional requirement of term limits? Women and men did not have equal standing when the Constitution was written--therefore, women could not be elected for office. What exactly were the reasons regarding specific interests that caused term limits to be established? Why not hand the Office to immediate relatives or children of the President? more

Open Question: why does islam discriminate against women so much?

for example guys get like hot virgins when they go to heaven which also confuses me cuz the quraan also says that whoever is ur husband on earth is ur husband in heaven sooooo he gets all those hot virgins and me? thats kinda annoying hmmm maybe he'll share a few with me XD and why is it that men can have 4 wives but i can only have one husband (not that i want one XP) and why is it that we have to cover our hair from men to stop them from being attracted to us yet they dont have to cover theirs i mean what if some other girls found it attractive and why do we have to cover so much of our body like i mean whats so sexy about our wrists =S why do we have to cover our knees and elbows i dont think guys find elbows hot (but i might be wrong) islam always tells us to treat others as equals but i think its one of the most discriminating religions ever :( ps im a lesbian (incase u havent realised)pss im putting this in the lgbt section cuz im interested in ur views and opinions psss U GUYS ARE THE AWESOMESTpom: fine if u would like me to include something about gays here i go in saudi arabia gays and lesbians are stoned to death because homosexuality is illegal they are also executed in iran and in my country their not killed but they do have a jail sentence of 5-10 years and sometimes get testosterone injected in them to turn them "straight" more

Open Question: Isn't the snide text-book response to this question emblematic of the distorted society we live in today?

http://blogs.bnet.com/stanley-bing/?p=268 =========== 'Dear Stanley, I recently interviewed with a company where the team was led by a woman and included five female co-workers. I am a man and my concern is that I would not fit in. Further, I have heard recent statistics that a high percentage of the population would rather work for a man. I work for a company now where it’s the good ‘ol boys: I can golf, go out for drinks, swear, etc. in a corporate setting. Am I setting myself up for failure by taking a job in a female-dominant setting? The reason for the change is 100 percent salary based. Worried Walter Dear Walt, Hi there! Guess what? You’re a sexist! Congratulations on the fact that your disability has so far gone undiagnosed due to the environment in which you are working. It was only a matter of time before you were busted, and I’m happy to do the job. Your attitudes are very poor, my man. I’m not saying I don’t sympathize. It’s fun, if you’re a man, to work inside the cozy womb — if that’s the right word — of a gender-dominant group within a culture. But it’s like any other society where injustice is the law of the land: cozy for the guys in power, cold for those on the outside looking in. Just for fun, here are some of the indications that you’re suffering from chronic Sexist Butthead Syndrome, as demonstrated in your brief e-mail: 1. You went out of your way to find out the gender composition of the department you’d be working for; 2. You believe you would “not fit in,” which demonstrates your probably well-founded feeling that you don’t relate well to women in a professional environment; 3. You cite some troglodyte survey saying that a “high percentage of the population” would rather work for a man. Any man? As opposed to any woman? Nice job of generalizing, dude! 4. You use the phrase “good ol’ boys” without irony; 5. You are concerned that a better salary would not offset the loss of golf; 6. Your conviction that “females” do not drink or swear. My experience is that they do both quite nicely. At any rate, I believe there’s hope for you. You’re asking questions; that’s a good thing. You’re considering making a change in spite of your horrendous attitudinal liabilities. And the truth is, most men, particularly those of a certain age, have had to make the same shift and have done so splendidly. You’d be amazed how sexist attitudes eventually melt away when you are compensated well to have them do so. I think you should take the job. You’d be surprised at how the number of your fellow trolls has decreased in recent years. You need to get with the new program, pronto. What you’ll find out is that women make just as good — and just as bad — managers and colleagues as men do. Sometimes better. Sometimes worse. They do tend to cry a little bit more, but that’s another story altogether.' ================= First off I don't consider myself sexist - I support feminism in it's basic form - equal opportunities for women, and oppose female discrimination. However things like this get on my nerves quite a bit, I don't consider it feminist - merely a form of PC thought policing. Note the way the response is issued, it's based on an assumption from the given evidence that the questioner is sexist - almost in a computational manner the answerer issues a text-book PC "anti-misogynist" response. The hallmarks of this are passive aggressive undertones, masked by patronising the questioner, the use of nauseating Newspeak jargon i.e. "gender composition", "professional environment", "Sexist Butthead Syndrome", "gender-dominant group" - cosy terms designed to appear scientific, but the majority derive from sociological pseudoscience. So ultimately you have a man who prefers to work with men, probably set in old ways a bit, but fair do - is branded "sexist" for having a preference when it comes to gender. Many people like to choose whether or not their doctor (or GP) is a man or a woman - does this mean their sexist too? Should they be sent to the state correctional facilities for not thinking the way they should? Shouldn't workplaces promote diversity? Not just in terms of race, sex or sexuality - but progressive, libertarian, statist and conservative views? Isn't that being discriminatory - forcing them to change their ways like hive workers, conditioning their behaviours, and correcting them, like they're political dissidents? I'm all for gender equality, and equal opportunities - but that doesn't mean that statistically on the whole, there are differences between the sexes. Male and female bosses do often work in different ways, according large professional studies, not my own insignificant experience. Does that mean I'm a troglodyte, are those studies "troglodytes" - Are the participants in the studies olms? Are they also sexist as well as blind? I mean what the questioner is saying, is hardly that offencive, old fashioned yeah, but hardly enough to call hThere's a difference between being worried about fitting in in a female dominated work group and not wanting to work with women. If a woman is more productive working with other women, and prefers it, then let her do so - vice versa for men, and people who prefer to work with both sexes. Nothing sexist, just preference. more

Open Question: men and women are equal, in today's world women want to be more than men and forgotten the word equal?

I am male in late 20 and i am all for women rights and don't take me wrong i have a younger sister whom i dearly love and would never ever tolerate anything wrong towards her............BUT In today's world (I am talking primarily of western civilization cause that's were i live) we have forgotten the word "EQUAL" and now women want more rights than men,,,,,,,,,,think about it 1) girls want men to ask them out 2) pay for the dinner or movie or what ever 3) its her choice if she wants to have sex today or not (tired, headache blah blah blah) and in case a guy refuses due to genuine reason (tired or) she starts to think the either he is gay or he is having an affair.........and if he last a minute less than what she had expected in the bed then she starts to point out that ad on radio about premature e*jaculation 4) want their man to work and earn money, help them with kids, help them with cooking and cleaning and then still want them to be a MAN (one who is a robot and not a human with feelings, can't be sad can't cry). 5) its her choice to have kids or not and a man does not have a say either way, if a woman says she does not want kids then its no and if she wants kids and man does not then they will try every trick in the book to get pregnant (not to mention the child support issue here) 6) She gets the half of everything + kids + house + child support and then she has a new boyfriend and tries to do her best in preventing her ex seeing his own kids. 7) you ever noticed a woman can go and slap and man and that's nothing but on the other hand if a man slap's a woman then its a police case of assault. 8) if a guy is home all the time then she needs air to breath and if he is at work all the time then she needs to be taken care of. 9) have you seen woman dating a man who happens to be a nice person in all the way but earns less than her (i haven't) and when man earns more than her (normally the case) then she thinks she has right for her partners money cause he is the "MAN" and they are supposed to provide. 10) keep on falling for all the bad guys (saying cause the nature has put that in their process of natural selection) and then want a good guy who treats them well............. Now i can go on and on and on but i guess you got my point, all these things have not happened to be but i have seen these things happening in our society.........i don't say here that men are all good but not all are bad and but i think these are not a positive development in the culture for our future What do you think people, please share your views, would be great if you write you age and nationality too more

Open Question: I am a minor, and do not make min. Wage?

I work at hy-vee as a bagger, I make $7.25 an hour. The state min, wage is 7.75 an hour going up to 8.00 and hour today, the last time i got my paycheck my min wage listed was 7.25 okay i went to my state DOL website and it states The Equal Pay Act prohibits employers with four or more employees from paying unequal wages to men and women for doing the same or substantially similar work, requiring equal skill, effort, and responsibility, under similar working conditions for the same employer in the same county, except if the wage difference is based upon a seniority system, a merit system, a system measuring earnings by quantity or quality of production, or factors other than gender. ok so i do the same ammount work as other baggers that are older then me. so since it does not mention age, i think hy-vee is violating this law. So If i worked 20 hours a week, one month at 7.25 i would have made 580 dollars, but if i was supposed to make 7.75 that is 40 dollars less a month, which after 1 year of working there is a loss of 480 dollars. so what should i do? i think it should call the idol and file a complaint, and if it is true, should sue my company for financial loss more

Resolved Question: What do you think about women in Special Operations?

Personally, I can agree with them not being in combat as regular infantry for numerous reasons. But, I think they could really contribute to Spec Ops. If they have what it takes to make Spec Ops, then they pretty much equal to a man in terms as being combat effective. Thoughts? No one ever said they couldn't make it in infantry. I'm talking about ones good enough to make it into Spec Ops, Good enough for infantry probably won't cut it. Good enough for Spec Ops puts them in a category by themselves. Most men fail Spec Ops, but, I know a few women that could make it.I think the perception of what will happen is wrong. the reality is, there could be and should be just a few select women that can do the job. I'm just saying exceptions to the rule. There are women so good, they would be much more highly effective in combat than theor weaker male counterparts - but because of sex, they are disqualified. Same goes for age - they will disqualify someone for age in a certain job, meanwhile this person is much more effective than ones that meet the so-called requirement. I just believe in "taking the best", not taking those that qualify. Some women are the best at what they do, its a shame the world is still bias.male (not a female) 34 Army SOF 99 to presentHey bull, its only a perception. Resolved Question: here is the best part of the book I swear it gets better as it gose on it is like 30pgs and i can't put it all?

I guess I should probably tell you how I know this so called “Mitch”. Well I know him through a lot of different things but I guess none of them equal up to the one reason we are so close. We have all the same interests. And we live across the street from each other. We are both in a band together and we are both in 4-H. Mitch is a grade above me and one of my best friends. I couldn’t believe I didn’t recognize him at first but I guess it must have been the headache or something like that. I could not believe that I was sitting here with Mitch. Mitch. My Mitch. The Mitch in the band. The Mitch in 4-H. Mitch, one of my best friends in the world. We stared into each others eyes for a few seconds and then we heard the ambulance sirens and we both stood up as fast as our injuries and stiffness would allow. There were three ambulances, one cop car, two cop trucks, and one fire truck. They pulled up; all got out of the cars then, for just a moment, froze looking at the disaster. Then they all stared running around, yelling, telling each other what the damage was and to “God damn it, hurry up with those pliers”. A kind woman, who looked like she was in her early 30’s, walked up and asked us how many people were in each car. Mitch looked confused for a moment then said “Two in the white car, an older man and a baby girl about a year old.” The kind looking lady looked at me; I was struggling to remember who I was with and count them, I had an awful headache. “There is 2 little girls,” I said with my eyes closed, “one about 11 and the other 10; a man about 39 and a woman about 35.” I was trying not to think about what kind of shape there were in. The lady took both of our hands and led us away from the scene and took us to one of the ambulances. “Hurry up, Barbra” said a man who was helping take the cars apart to get the people out,” We got to get these other people in there.” “Ok, Jeff let me just check them. I don’t think they are that badly injured.” The lady examined us; it was now that Mitch and I learned the extent of our injuries. My ankle was sprained, but not bad, and I had a deep cut across my forehead (the cause of the headache). Mitch had a twisted wrist and a deep cut on his chest. The lady said we must have had God watching over us, cause she had never seen an accident like this, when anyone survived. This, of course, did not make us feel anymore comforted. She wrapped my ankle and his wrist and taped up our cuts and said it would have to do for now. She hurried us to over to the curb again, told us to stay there and then walked away. They had gotten every one out of the cars and they were all carrying them into the ambulances. I was watching and then I saw my two little sisters. They had cuts and bruises all over their bodies; there arms and legs were twisted is unnatural directions. My heart stopped; they didn’t look like they were breathing. At my side I heard Mitch say “Look away Alex. It won’t do you any good; there is nothing we can do.” He said it like he was 100 miles away. He was facing away from me, refusing to look at the devastation. I was horrified; I couldn’t turn away. When he saw that I was not listening to him, Mitch grabbed my shoulders and turned me to face him. “There is nothing else we can do,” He repeated “I know, but still………,” I replied “Stay right here, I’m going to go see how we are going to get down to the hospital.” I gulped; I didn’t know if I could hold myself together for much longer. “Promise me you won’t turn around,” He said, when I did not reply. “I promise,” I whispered. He walked away He was back in a couple seconds. “They said there is no extra room in the ambulances,” he explained to me, “but there is extra room in the back seat of that cop truck.” “OK,” I said numbly “Lets go,” I turned toward the accident again. All of the people were pilling in to the vehicles and the destroyed cars were pulled of the road; into a ditch, to wait until a tow truck could come and get them. A police man walked over to us. “You will be riding with me,” he told Mitch, “I am the only one with room left; so you are suck with stinky, old me.” “Thank you officer,” Mitch replied softly, “I think you will do.” The officer looked at me concernedly, “Are you going to be, Ok,” he asked “I think I will be Ok I just…….,” my voice trailed off. The officer grabbed my shoulders and said “It will be Ok, no matter what. I promise.” I smiled a weak little smile. Mitch took my hand; we followed the cop over to his truck, we got into the backseat and drove away in to the unknown. (I know cheesy line.) The ride down to the hospital would take about an hour the cop, Cole, told us when we got into his truck. He also told us that if we wanted to talk about some stuff, we were welcome to; and he would not hear. I just sat there in shock next to Mitch. A million different things and ideas were running through my head. I saw my sisters again, our car demolished. I shook my head. I knewsorry guys i ment to put the next part more

Resolved Question: Mormon women, does it make you mad that you are not treated as equals to the Mormon men?

Jared. Mormon women are not allowed to hold the priesthood, they are not allowed to be a Bishop and they are not allowed to be the "Prophet"....simply because they are women. All practicing Mormon men are, without a doubt, sexist."Courage". I respect your acceptance of your role as a woman in the Mormon religion but still wonder why you would accept a second class position when it comes to church policy making and teaching others. I just find it oppressive and backwards....my family are Mormon and I am gay. This obviously has created some contention. My family believe it is ok to be gay but not to act on it. That is like saying, because you are who you are, you are destined to be alone and loveless your entire life. I believe the Mormon church is a hinderance to the growth of a fair and honest society based on the recognition of civil rights in favor of the majority rules. I wish the Mormon church would evolve to todays understanding of what it means to be human and leave the 1800's where they belong.Caveman....being gay is not a perversion, it just is the way I am.Poker face...Chastity is definately not in my plans. I am a monogomous man in a committed relatioship with another man. My family does not approve and will not include us in family events. We get prayed for....what a joke. Intimacy is NOT reserved for straight people alone and for that matter God (if there is one) has more important things to worry about than who I sleep with. Grow up.Linda lou. I hope you understand that the Mormon church claim that they are "the only true religion" is an insult to billions of non Mormons and if you accept your place beneath your husband....more power to your repressed self. By the way I am probably older than you are.Joshy, facts are facts. Women are not treated as equal in the church and you know it. Much like Muslim women, Mormon women must obey the man, obviously not everything they say but it is a well known fact that in a Mormon household there is only one "king" and he make the final decision if there is conflict. The women is secondary. This same train of command applies to the women in the church when it comes to policy making and even the idea that only men are allowed priesthood and the possibility to be the "prophet". Did you know that all zygotes in the womb start out as female? God, if there is one, would not discriminate as the church does.It would not be such a thorn in my side if my family were not Mormon....there would not be a direct connection and therefore the strange and backwards policies of the Mormon church would not matter at all, nor would they have any impact on my life. As it is, it is my mission to enlighten as many people as possible on what damage your church does to society. Take prop. 8 for example, only 1% of the population of California is Mormon but they raised over 50% of the money to brainwash the population into voting for it. Clearly proving the power and unity of your church to effect public policy...even though you are in the major minority. I am very grateful Obama won and Romney was sent home.Venis_sm. What a wonderful, well thought out reply. Thank you for that and your obvious wisdom and acceptance of your chosen path. All I ask is that my chosen path is equally acknowledged and if my sister choose to be a priest in her religion that she be allowed to. When the BOM was written there was slavery, that changed and so did the church policy. We are in the 21st century not the 1800's and women, blacks, etc. all have equal rights, gays soon will also, because it is the right thing to do. If your child said they were gay (and there are plenty of gay Mormon men and women in the closet) would you wish them a life alone?Wispy....you are the typical Mormon. more

Open Question: Business Proposal for class?

I am writing a business proposal for a pregnancy magazine for men and women alike. There aren't many magazines out there with equal focus on men so I would like to feature them in my magazine. What would attract people to buy my magazine, but especially what would attract men to purchase it? Also what would they want to see in it? Thank you in advance more

Open Question: What is the filmmaker's purpose of leaving an issue unjustified?

Hi, I am working on an essay that deals with Borat and I don't understand the part that he has a conversation with a social woman group and ask them why they think woman are inferior. From their conversation, we understand that it has nothing to do with brain size and they argue women are equal with men, but we as audience still think it's true in reality. The scene leaves no answer to the question but just keep us wondering. Why the filmmaker does that? Thanks~ more

Open Question: Is it clear through women's continued underachieving even through the equal (and greater) rights given them..?

..thru feminism that women simply are not of equal competence with men? Is it finally safe to say this? Women were thought to have been held down by men, and this would explain their seemed underachievement in respect to those of men. But now after giving women equal and even privileged rights (in respect to men) and having women still underachieve and seem as weak and fragile as ever, can we finally put this to rest and officially acknowledge men as being more able than women?Only insults, yet no serious refutations? So accord to Y! Answers protocol this would seem to suggest that I am right and have perhaps upset some people with this sensitive subject> more

Resolved Question: What does being a femenist really mean?

I believe in women's rights and that men and women are equal, but does that make me a feminist? I'm not completely clear on what a feminist is. Everyone seems to think feminists hate men or something, but I'm not sure I believe that. I don't hate men.Encanto, are you one of those people who has no life and goes around Yahoo! Resolved Question: What is the Female Sentencing Discount?

Does this have anything to do with why there are more men in prison than women? background info... http://glennsacks.com/blog/?p=3927 Sarah Whitford drank enough alcohol to give herself a blood-alcohol level three times the legal limit. Then she got in her car, drove between 56 and 77 mph in a 25 mph zone, and plowed into Vailaile Fuaiva, Jr. killing him. Fuaiva was a decorated veteran of the Viet Nam war and a pastor in the Haleiwa Evangelical Mission. He leaves behind him a widow and four children. Whitford's punishment? Eighteen months in prison, five years probation and restitution of a little under $8,000. At least two studies show that women receive substantially more lenient sentences than do men when all relevent factors are equal. One of those studies concludes that gender is the single greatest factor in sentencing disparities, exceeding even race. more

Voting Question: The double edged sword of feminism?

Im not against womens rights. They deserve an equal chance in the workplace, and they should have as much of a say with regard to household matters as men do. However, I do say that feminism is a double edged sword because I once read a great theory. It's that women always need a stronger man. And the problem we have is that women have become a lot more empowered and powerful and that new found power and assertiveness intimidates a lot of good men, leaving them mainly with jerks who abuse them and make them damaged. I think that we need a balance. more

Open Question: Give your thoughts on this situation (A MANS right to choose)?

A man and woman have been together for 6 years, they both work, are entitled to paid maternity leave and are 'ready' for a child. The woman gets pregnant and decides that she doesn't want a baby, after telling the man for years that she did. They split up. Road 1) The man says he will adopt the child when it's born and will bring it up himself (and pay any medical bills throughout her pregnancy). The woman flatly refuses and books and abortion. Is this a fair and equal decision? Road 2) The man says he will adopt the child when it's born and will bring it up himself (and pay any medical bills throughout her pregnancy). The woman flatly refuses and cuts contact with him and signs the adoption papers, telling them she doesn't know who the father is. is this fair? I'm asking this because of a friend of mine in a similar situation. At what point does a man get the right to choose about the life (or lack of) of his future child? Yes, it is a womans body, but that unborn child, foetus, collection of cells whatever you want to call it, was created by him as well as her, so why doesn't he get a choice? Why is it that, even when the father WANTS to be a Father he has no say in the matter? What if he doesn't want the child? Is it fair that he is forced to pay for a child he didn't want? If a woman refuses any other options stating something like 'i'll do it alone' why should he be forced to pay?So you think it was right for this woman, to not only LIE about what she wants for 6 years but also to allow him NO CHANCE to care for the child he wanted but she didn't. The only person playing is the woman, she's playing games with the poor lads head and heart, it's sick! She chose the second option. I'm currently trying to help, both emotionally and with the adoption side, but she wont budge, he's having to wait 3 months until childs born for a DNA. She's even refused to give scans to him. They split up because she doesn't want the baby. this is the argument they had infront of me (which is why i'm so involved in it) her: ' I don't want this baby, you want one go find someone else. now either sit down and shut up or leave' him: ' i just want to understand, for 6 years you've said you wanted one and we're ready' her: 'well i don't now and haven't for years'Thats what i'm trying to say know it all, why should women be the only ones with rights when it comes to the 'potential' life of an unborn child? Both of them are what she threatened to do, when i read the first (she txted him that btw) i wanted to slap her, when her friend came with the second message i had to remind myself she was pregnant, and that my friend needed me. He's a big man, 29, and since it started he's been either crying like a child watching lion king or pulling his hair out, he's lost a lot of weight as well. more

Voting Question: Is it now time for men and women to play each other at tennis?

It's not just that we're bang in the middle of Wimbledon fortnight that prompts my question. This question really needs to be answered. Two years ago, the All England Lawn and Tennis Club finally conceded to the Women's Tennis Association that women tennis players should receive equal prizemoney at Wimbledon at all rounds of the singles competitions, just as both the Australian and US Open championships had conceded in the early 1970s. But there's only one problem: the WTA's case for equal money was complete bollards. The AELTC simply wilted before the WTA's aggressive campaign - waged over the course of five years largely by their (male) commercial director - and yet never made what would have been a very convincing counter-argument that would have sent the WTA packing: "If you want equal prizemoney at Wimbledon, you can have it. But only if there is the one draw." Yes, the one draw, where men play women over the best of three sets. Well, why not? Last time I checked, tennis isn't a game where players kick and punch each other to submission. It's a non-contact sport. Yes, yes, yes: men are stronger than women and they'd serve them off court and win every single match. Maybe. Maybe not. But how do we actually know this if we don't at least try it? And in any case, if all a tennis player needed was a mammoth serve to win tennis matches, then Andy Roddick and Ivo Karlovic would reach the final of every men's tournament going. But they don't, do they? You need _more_ than a big serve. You need a good return of serve; athleticism; knowledge of when to play your drop-shots, backhands and volleys; sheer mental strength and focus; razor-sharp hand-eye co-ordination; an ability to adjust your game to the opponent playing in front of you; iron temperament; a determination to stick in there when the going gets tough; and, of course, a will to win no matter what. Some of these attributes are physical attributes in which men beat women, but the rest are not. Do men have a monopoly on temperament? Or of focus? Or of a will to win? I don't believe they do. And in any case, the world's top women tennis players are fitter now than they have ever been: you only have to look at Svetlana Kuznetsova, Dinara Safina and Serena Williams to understand that. It's truly incredible that we are now in the ninth year of the twenty-first century and yet we still have this ridiculous gender apartheid in tennis. What exactly are the WTA afraid of? That their members would lose much more often in mixed singles matches than they do in women's singles matches? Well, at the very least, they should brave enough to ask their own members what they really think. I believe many of them would relish the challenge; it would certainly add a new and exciting dimension to a sport that badly needs some fresh thinking and new ideas. Now, many of you who have reached this far may think I'm being anti-women. After all, women might lose out more often than not in mixed singles tennis (again, I would ask, how do we know unless we try it?). But actually, I'm not: I'm pro-equality in all non-contact sports, not just tennis. In darts and in all of the billiards sports, it's exactly the same question: why aren't men playing women? Here, it should be the women, not the men, who would benefit more. It's time to begin a new chapter for many of our sports and add a new, fresh dimension: men versus women; the battle of the sexes. Try it; they may never know, they might just like it. more

Voting Question: Are monotheistic religions unfair towards women?

From what I can get: Islam considers women to have no rights equal to that of men amongst other things Christianity considers women weak and a source of evil which corrupts men..... Resolved Question: what is wrong with this statement?

Article 16 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights declares that "Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. Voting Question: Why are there so much greater expectation for men than for women?

- Yet men get no 'extra credit' for meeting these expectations as the genders are supposedly considered 'equal'. This comment from another question says it all "Im not attracted to weak men because it makes them seem to girly" atomic angel http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aj8aFxRYkEHm7DuM4lN8sEgjzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20071004112314AAIEvgylouise of course there are greater expectations for men. A quick and obvious test would be to consider how much more often you've heard the phrase "be a man" than 'be a woman'. The greater incidence of the former suggests that being a man takes more personal strife than does being a woman. It suggest that being a 'man' is something that needs to be achieved, that it is something of a code of ethics of character. Society doesn't seem to place this same burden on women. -Btw, the linked question shows over a dozen answers in that question alone, the one I quoted was not unique. more

Resolved Question: Do You Agree With Gene Simmons On Why He Thinks Adam Lambert's Career Is Done?

I don't think I've been talking smack at all. In fact, if anything, I've been soft-peddling. He's enormously talented, best talent American Idol has had, but I think he killed his career because now the conversation is not about his talent but about his sexual preference. He's done. You're forcing people to deal with issues they may not be interested in. Life is unfair, and the masses don't all live in L.A. They live in Wisconsin and Nebraska, and you're on crack if you think the same rules apply there. My advice is still the same, shut the f*** up, just sing and let people say whatever they want. But I do wish him the best because he's got all the talent in the world. If only the world was not homophobic, but it is. I would be the first one to vote for equal rights for gay women and men, and get the church and the state to stop telling everybody how to lead their lives, but do I think he's killed his career? Oh, in an instant. I hope I'm completely wrong. I hope he becomes the next Beatles and proves me wrong. more

Resolved Question: Why Do Women Hide The Facts??! !?

Why do you think that women always feel the pain when the man hit him in the genitals, which is higher than it is. Although the experience has always proved the contrary. I believe that the pain of the sexes (men and women) equal. I believe that women suffer more than men. And this is the result of carrying capacity as men. The man known for his ability to withstand pain, and women known to be sensitive. One of the questions on Yahoo, which surprised many of their responses, women are often exaggerated in the answers, and said that "the man may die if the battery in the genitals"!!. And this belief is completely false. Remember that women avoid the damage is bleeding, pain, and tumors may be malignant at times. The serious, sometimes up to menopause with or affected by the uterus or ovaries, as a hit in the genitals. I think that women who believe that the man had inflicted serious pain and more of them, are at fault. I think that women control the men from the perspective of formal and avoid to mention the facts (I do not know why!) Indeed, some women refuse to recognize that they are suffering, when beaten in the genitals!! (PERFECT WOMEN!!) I believe that the danger and pain are fully equal to the gender (men and women). However, the only difference, gender is the ability to endure. Sometimes a man is not likely to see the pain, and we see a woman patient pain, and often we see a man can bear the pain, and a woman can not bear the pain. So, what do you think you are? more

Resolved Question: Shouldn't Feminism be called Equalism?

The dictionary states that the definition of Feminism is "the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men." It seems like Equalism is a much better word for this. Feminism sounds much like what it is today. If Feminism really is what it was meant to be, I believe that it should be called Equalism because many men believe in the same thing that dictionary definition of feminism states. Resolved Question: Should Sunnis legally be allowed to kill Shia?

A Senior Saudi cleric thinks it is alright how about you? If you are not a Muslim or a dhimmi (Christian or Jew) then you have zero rights in a Muslim Shariah state, and if you are a dhimmi you are not allowed to be equal to muslims in anything regarding the law. You are worth half a muslim (unless you are also a woman then you are one-fourth of a muslim man for diyya. Read about Shariah if this is new to you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shariah#Sharia_and_non-Muslims But how Sunnis and Shia are to treat each other is another story. Are the others infidels or part of the umma? A Saudi cleric said recently that Shias are infidels and therefore can be killed without consequence. This angered Iraqi Shia Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki but what do you all think? Here is the article. http://www.middle-east-online.com/english/saudi/?id=32954 Honestly, what is a little more bothersome to me when reading this article is that its taken for granted by all these scholars and commentators involved that killing infidels is fine. They are just arguing about whether Shia are infidels or not, not about whether killing infidels might be wrong. Oh well, can't win em all. more
