Are Men And Women Physically Equal Questions asked

Open Question: Are women inferior to men? What are women better at?

This question has been bugging me a LOT for about two years now. Are women inferior to men? In my class, the guys are always able to participate in debates with a lot knowledge handy, while the girls are quite clueless and cannot debate or contribute very well. Also we don't see as many extremely intelligent women as men. Many people say women are men are equally intelligent and well, lets just say thats true. So, if women and men are equal in intelligence but men are PHYSICALLY stronger, doesn't it mean males>females? Do we females have anything to make up for our small size and lack of upper body strength? Please don't say things like "Oh, but we're PRETTIER" or "But we can GIVE BIRTH!" Because if we were men it wouldn't matter as much about beauty, and also birth can be quite a disadvantage. Carrying around a baby for 9 months is not fun and if the guy runs off, then we're screwed. I know flexibility is something females are better at, but that isn't really that helpful in life. I think being able to fight of rapists and carry heavy load is a lot more useful than doing a few stretches. So people, PLEASE PLEASE tell me something women are better at that's USEFUL? If you find flaws in my logic, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO BASH IT. I would be very happy because these thoughts have been bugging me really badly for a long time. Note: I know I generalized here, but I have to generalize for there to be an argument. Don't tell me "oh but SOME women are stronger than SOME men" I know that. But usually that is not so.  more

Voting Question: Equality between men and women? ?

I'm just curious as to people's opinions regarding equality between men and women. Do you believe in total equality between the sexes, or are there some things that you just think that is better for a woman/man to do? For example, I believe in equal pay for men/women holding the same job position, but I don't know how I'd feel with a woman on the front lines in a war. I don't know what makes me feel that way (about the front lines). Also, do you think that a woman should have the same opportunity to get a job that men usually hold (i.e., a laborer who must physically lift things). Just curious. No right or wrong answers.  more

Voting Question: Since feminists publicly claim that men and women are of equal intelligence...?

And since they also concede that, on a whole, men are physically stronger and otherwise more physically capable. And since every economy is composed of a combination of jobs that are either cerebral in nature (like accounting), physical in nature (like warehouse operation) or a combination of the two (like civil engineering). And since a man, being stronger and better built physically, would therefore be more productive in jobs that are physically demanding, does it not stand to reason that men should, on a whole, make more than women since, even if they are paid equally in cerebral jobs, men should get paid more in physically demanding jobs (commensurate with their higher production)? akigeni: I'm talking about the real world. Warehouses don't have "box moving quotas". Still Untamed: Kind of like that time you claimed that divorce rates declined when they actually increased? "Equal pay for equal work" has existed for many years (when you adjust for the factors you gave, men and women are paid roughly equally, despite women being shorter). But feminists still complain about the "wage gap" because a gap does exist (because women are less qualified overall than men). So obviously they're not complaining about "equal work for equal pay". They're simply complaining about "equal pay". Rio: So then if a man interviews two candidates for an entry-level engineering position (a man and a woman) and the man impresses him during the interview with his brilliance, and the woman exposes the fact that she's of subpar intelligence and he hires both, does he have to pay them both the same, even though one is much more impressive? Still Untamed: Yes, the number of divorces are down, but the "divorce rate" (your words) is the number of divorces as a function of the number of marriages. That figure has actually doubled (which is higher than the 50% increase prediction you attributed to anti-feminists). rainfallshard: When speaking in general, statistical terms, generalizations apply. Also, the idea that women "multitask" better (an immeasurable quality) is a myth. akigeni: One - So you're saying that people should be paid based on effort and not output? Is this the second grade? Two - My point is that men SHOULD get paid more for such jobs, since they have greater output. But feminists claim that men and women should make the same. Still Untamed: You have a serious statistics problem, don't you? I didn't say that ALL men should make more than ALL women. I said that, on the whole the income from men (i.e. the sum of all of their income) should exceed that of women (i.e. the sum of all their income). In other words, a pay gap is an expected outcome based on the higher productive capacity of men overall. Therefore any complaint that men make more than women (which is the "wage gap" argument) neglects that point and actually demands a pay subsidy for lesser work for women. Rio: Um...What? An employer isn't allowed to pay a brilliant young engineer more than a dimwitted young engineer? What on earth kind of madness is this?... Princess: You STILL haven't learned that it's "prejudiced"?  more

Resolved Question: Why do women always want to be physically equal to men?

I know tons of women who claim men and women are physically equal. They say that women could be great firefighters just like men, fight on the front lines of wars just like men, and could be just as good as men in professional sports, like football and baseball. We see this with women golfers wanting to play with the men, but of course if a man wanted to join the LPGA and make a ton of dough that would be seen as wrong. The "Battle of the Sexes" tennis match between Billie Jean King and a washed up 55 year old Bobby Riggs. What is the fascination with this stuff? Why is it that women have to always prove that they can be just as physically tough as a guy? They aren't. Why not just accept that women were not made to be physically dominant? Instead of women trying to do these things, it would be nice to see women act feminine. What's wrong with a woman acting like a traditional women, rather than demanding to play in men's sports? mexicanboy17, you're a racist. you disgust me. :) men always treat women as inferior huh? Your hatred for men is showing through. Have a nice weekend with your butch biker gf.  more

Resolved Question: Why do so many women get so mad when you show the facts that this country is sexist against men ?

At age 18 it is required of males only (not females) to enlist into the selective service system or draft as it is commonly called . Granted the draft hasn't been used in over 30 years now but males are still required by law to sign up . Those who refuse to sign up lose their driving privileges by law . Also they are denied all college financial assistance if they refuse to sign up , that includes both grants and loans . Females have no such requirements and face no such penalties . The whole system is entirely sexist against men . Some numbers to also consider . Over 200,000 American men gave their lives in WWII ,less than 300 women . Over 50,000 American men gave their lives in the Vietnam conflict , less than 100 women . All wars bear similar figures . In police forces around this country , men overwhelmingly give their lives in service compared to a pittance of women . The same is true in fire fighting fatalities , mining deaths, construction fatalities , off shore accidents and in every single field where people lose their life on the job . Does anyone hear men complaining ? No ! Yet men have been under attack from every direction imaginable in this country for well over 20 years and no one has said a darn thing . For too long women have invaded every single institution that men once had as safe-havens and this from military schools to elementary school sports to everything in between . This as they have ranted and screamed about having equal rights . Doesn't matter if they are not physically capable of producing anywhere near the same amount of work or that some men in some positions have worked their tails off to get rewarded for their effort , women scream and whine and complain that they should recieve the same pay even though they can not produce the same work . It is the same in everything , they demand equal everything but responsibility . I agree with equal rights entirely but I also believe that this country should demand equal responsibility from ALL citizens . If men are required to sign into the selective service system then women also should likewise be mandated by law to do so and face the same penalties if they refuse . Reverse arrirmative action should mandate that the military and all dangerous occupations in this nation be filled 50% men and 50% women . If enough women do not apply for these dangerous positions then the selective service system should draft them and see that the positions are equally filled by men and women . We after all DO want equality don't we ? There should also be a law that if a woman is convicted of whining and screaming that she wants equality that she be drafted and sent to the front lines . That is equality . That is what we want isn't it ? Or do we want archaic sexist regulations that offer equality in rights but deny equality in responsibilities ?  more

Resolved Question: Why do a lot of women claim to want equality but then become hypocrits about regarding certain aspects such as?

I was disgusted to find out that the Canadian Forces has a different entrance physical for women then men,but still calls them equals when it is all said and done.A women gets roughly an additional 2 mins on the 2.4 km run then a man even though they are trying out for the same job.If the man went over his allotted time by 10 seconds and the woman just made her time by 10 seconds, isn't he still technically more physically fit for that job then the woman?Another good Canadian Forces example is that if you are a Male Med Tech, you can potentially be put in combat along side the front line infantry, yet a woman can not be put in that spot,as far as i know;if this is the case, why are they paid the same and called equals? She clearly is not doing the job equally, meaning THE SAME.Is this not very hypocrytical?I understand that woman and men are built differently but it doesn't give places the right to change standards for a certain job. I was speaking to a Fire fighter friend of mine and he was conducting physical fitness testing for his departments hiring process recently and he was just disgusted. There was one test where you have to move an object with a sledge hammer so far in under a minute. One male was short by an inch and failed and was asked to leave. The Woman who went next failed it miserably, didn't even get it half way and when he went to fail her,his supervisor said to just bump her through because they needed to hire a woman to keep the public happy. I was always raised to believe in equality and still do,but it has become a very hypocritical word in this day and age.I'm all for hiring any race, religion, gender, gay, bisexual etc,but the standards need to be EQUAL.Thoughts?  more

Resolved Question: Will evolution make man and woman equal in physical strength?

Don't think I am ranting here.... As humans have evolved all through out the history both man and woman have come to this stage with their different physical abilities. The "Evolution" is the (can be the) only reason that man is physically stronger than the woman. --> BECAUSE man did most of the hard work throughout the history. BUT as now (in modern times) women are working as same as men do they will be equally strong as men do in future.... Don't you think so? Woman go to war, they do all sorts of sports, they give birth to babies, ..etc. When will the fastest female athlete pass the fastest male ? I don't think it is impossible as records are there to break...  more

Resolved Question: Do women deserve equal rights as men for being so weak?

Resolved Question: Has anyone observed much enthusiasm in our society for women being physically strong as men?

In discussions of social mores, I've often spoken of originality, pointing out that some men admire women who are at least equal athletically. At best, most women themselves respond by saying they accept women being equal in business or academics, but are not at all comfortable with my ideals. At worst, critics show specious logic and hostility, using some of the worst epithets to describe me. Such claims have no basis. After all, if a man intends to abuse or prey on women, is he looking for the most intelligent and powerful examples?!!  more

Voting Question: Advice for women about men for once what do you think?

Now ive read countless articles about how men should date women and how to be successful with women. However, ive not seen as much about advice on how women get the best out of potential relationships with men. And ive had countless women ask me what best to do to keep a man so to speak. So i decided to give my own bullets point if you like on this particular subject so hears goes and hope its a little useful single ladies. (1) I think its the obvious try not to just give it up! sex i mean on a first date. Not all men are the same but chances are he will see you as to easy and something to blag to his friend over the next morning rather than serious relationship material. And also try and make your sexuality mean something if the relationship does take off, just in case he takes you for granted and thinks he can have it anytime. (2) Id say its good to dress nicely on dates and in relationships, but don't go over the top! If you look like a page 3 girl chances are he will like you as a bit of fun or a novelty, again a laugh for the boys! But in the end 9 weeks may go by and you will have not met his mother or family and you never will! So bad naughty girl do well short term, but elegant angelic ladies long term! (3) Don't always make him pay for everything and do everything! If you do you may think this is great im getting everything, don't kidd yourself if he pays for everthing hes buying your love and paying for your beauty, and he may met someone whos more beautiful better sexually, and ohh no! Suddenly that money and the relationship will be hers so think on! (4) If he is a decent guy don't fuck him about! If you desire the nasty type chances are he may become that and your'll want mr decent back, then he will dump you at some stage and think this is how all poor women want to be treated and he may give them a bad expirence and you will be partly responsible for upset further down the road. (5) If a relationship does take off don't always be at his throat for little things or minoir misstakes he may make, you get the best out of men when you highten there ego! So tell him things like i love the effort you put in darling, and its even greater cause its from a sexy guy like you! And you would be suprised to know that some guys like to called beautiful wined and dined on ocasions, given lovely suprises, remeber 'All people are more alike than different' (6) Sometimes would you believe us men have times when we are not 'super sexed' thats right! So don't kill him if he turns you down cause men have to cope with this with little issue when you turn us down so its all about being equal right! (7) If your one of those girls that is getting by with guys just cause you look great try to develop yourself alround not just in that area cause as time goes by the good stuff fads and we only have whats inside, and from my own perspective i love women that have a whole range of great things about them personaly not just physically. After all use guys can not just be all handsome and expect the world to loves us! As they say we have to be men, so you be your true best as a women mentally, spirtually, cause its these that help you long term. (8) If you had a bad relationship in the past do not toture your current by going on about the past and comparing him to past partners, it will drive him away and before long he will think you care for your ex more and do a runner! After all why are you talking about them all the time? (9) Try to get rid of the fictional ideals like a prince and lovely bad boy! Everyone makes misstakes and we are not part of your dream we are real and control our own reality so we will never be exactly what those novels you read are lol But we have qualites that deserve building for what they are rather than being compared to something fictional. So keep that in mind. (10) Try giving a shy man a chance and ask him out if you like him, he may have hidden qualities both personally, and in a romantic sense and be very protective. And us men love being asked out to not just doing all the chasing, it can be a boats for our ego and most with a head on their shoulders are flatterd and truly greatful. (11) And last but no least! Be yourself at its best and always have faith in whatever qualites you have. Its the quality that counts not always the quanty, don't try and become a wag or silly money queen cause there are very few in our society, and even those have problems in the end in there relationships. If this is what you want you might have to ask the question 'Do i want a man? Or to marry a bank? And no amount of money can give you that aliveness you feel when you share it with someone you truly love. Not what you are expected to love. And loves a team effort and as a man i feel alive when i know the person im with is as crazy for me as i am for them. So thats my small points ladies haha hope you enjoyed and the very best of luck for your current and future love lifes! regards martin x  more

Resolved Question: What do you think of men that don't protect women?

Here's the scenario: Me and this guy are hanging out, and theres a noise in my house. He wants me to go check. And nothing happened. First off, I'm all about equal rights. But this is something, that's just not right to me. Shouldn't the guy be brave and check? I would think it would be instinctive for guys. They are physically stronger. Wouldn't they feel better themselves by doing this? I asked 2 different guys about this. One guy said he would go check, another guy told me its stupid for him to go check and that "back then women always had to listen to guys and he can make her go check" ? I think he thinks that, anglo saxon heros is a story they tell you in school to make guys think they should be the brave ones. What does everyone else think?  more

Resolved Question: GUYS: are Women equal to Men?

i know theres still a lot of sexism in the world....(which sucks!) but do you honestly think women are equal to men? and why? i know that we are not physically equal (as in, guys can build up more muscle quicker and so he becomes stronger, or women can bare children) but i mean lawfully? do we/should we have the same rights? ive talked to a lot of guys that said women should/are equal to men...  more

Resolved Question: Modern day Feminism?

I think modern day feminism is a man hating group of women and young girls who were abused by men as children, are insecure with them selves and want gender exclusive perks for being a woman that put men to a disadvantage. I think feminism achieved what it needed to achieve in terms of rights women should of had as human beings in the late seventies, when this was achieved all the non man hating feminists jumped off of the movement because they had completed their goal; equality. You might hear a woman complaining about not getting equal pay in contrast to a man (Those statistics are often fudged might I add, just as well as most of the statistics are fudged when it comes to feminists and men/women issues, equal pay, domestic violence vs both sexes, etc) but then when someone says "Well if you want equality then why don't you sign up for the draft too?" Then the feminist starts flipping out and exclaiming how women aren't physically fit for combat (Which is a complete fluke in logic with their whole women can do it all ideology.) So down to my question, why do feminists want to pick and choose what they are equal on? It seems like they want all the benefits of being a man but non of the disadvantages, then special perks for being a woman that put men at a social or legal disadvantage. Who else thinks 3rd feminism (Which is a corrupt man hating group for the most part) is not needed in countries where 1st and 2nd wave feminism achieved equality? (Like America, India, UK) Zenawoo, both. catholicmistake- very nice, you represent what i would not even consider feminism, but equal values for all human beings regardless of gender. that is what the real feminism was about, not the man hating of today. bravo! i underestimated you.  more

Resolved Question: Why should women usually/need to get treated better than men in dating ?

Why should women usually/need to get treated better than men in dating ? I mean there chivalry-[courteous behavior, especially that of men towards women] but women dont have to do equal treatment toward men or they do less than want is expected men do. Why dont more women take there men out and pay for them as much as men usually do? Some women expect the man to pay all of the dates, and most men do. The problem is men go along wit this, they usually think want can I buy her to MAKE her like me. They do stupid things( without the women reciprocating back) like expensive dinner on the first date, flower, gifts, out of the box favors, paying for everything, let women verbally and physically abuse him without leaving her, free vacations. Men If really want to know if there girlfriend like them 4real, respect her but dont spoil her, demand to be treated with the same respect u give her. Let her fall in luv with u not want u can do 4 her financially. What do yall think about this ? Women have want they didnt have back in the day opportunities to make money. She doesnt have take him to a expensive spot, just reciprocate... please. Men if ya women wants respect have her earn it just like u have to earn hers. Also all of this doesnt apply to every man and women just most. Look forward to honest opinions Do it comes down to the most men paying for sex basiclly ? Isnt this legal prostitution ? If not how isnt it ?  more

Resolved Question: I have just finished my writing task ,but no English teacher help me figure out any writing mistakes, help!!?

Write about the following topics: Universities would accept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject. To what extent do you agree of disagree. It is now generally believed that male and female should have the same status in society. many people argue that the university should enroll the same numbers of male and female students in every subject since both genders should enjoy the same rights and opportunities in education field. However, I don’t agree with this opinion based on the following two reasons. On one hand, it is not reasonable for us to ignore the characteristics of both genders. Man and women are different physically and mentally, thus they have different preferences in choosing majors and varies in performance when studying these subjects. For instance, female students are prone to learn arts ,literature ,accounting, nursing, etc. while males mostly prefer computer ,engineering ,maths and physics. As male and female are inherently different in ways of thinking ,we should take it into consideration when deciding how many students to accept for each gender. On the other hand, some people would say the inequality in numbers would offend the equality of society. Personally, I believe this policy would provoke fairness rather than destroy it because people are free to choose the the subject they want without constrains of quotas for gender. The demand and supply of education opportunities have already form a market, which will naturally decide the applicants with the best academic performance to accept regardless of what gender he/she belongs to. To conclude, recruiting the same numbers of male and female students are not reasonable. A better choice is to let the market decide who and how many to enroll, which is not only the best way to show our respect for individual but also the true meaning of equality.  more

Resolved Question: what is feminism necessarily about? are there different degrees of feminism?

i believe that men and women should be treated equal according to the law, but both have differences. a woman cant physically or mentally do everything a man does and vise versa. im very proud of being a young woman, and look forward to being a wife, mother, and a singer. is that feminism? i found it very hard to relate to my feminist peers. like you know, men and women think different they say women can multitask and men cant, im think it would be mean to say women can do all these things men cant do and not acknowledge that men think in different ways  more

Resolved Question: Women and the draft?

I've been looking at past questions about women being included in the draft if it were to be reinstated, and the general consensus is yes. I keep seeing, "Women wanted equality and now they have it. You can't have it both ways. Suck it up-see you in the combat zone!" When did men and women become PHYSICALLY equal? A lot of guys don't think it's fair women aren't subject to the draft, but I don't think it's fair that I have to have a period every month and they don't. I don't think it's fair that that they will never, ever have to worry about pregnancy. I don't think it's fair that they, because of their sex, automatically retain way more upper body strength and muscle mass than I ever will. I really don't think it's fair that, if put into the military, my chances of being raped sky rocket. I didn't ask for equality, and it doesn't matter, because I sure as hell didn't get it. Am I the only one who thinks that, until we're physically equal, I shouldn't treated physically equally? Dear Formula9: You find my argument appalling? Well, I find your tone appalling. Never once did I say I wasn’t willing to serve my country. I just feel that most women can better serve this country in other ways than through military combat. If you can’t answer a question without taking the tone of an whiny, insolent child, then don’t answer. If you’re that immature, perhaps you shouldn’t be handling weapons?  more

Resolved Question: Men fighting women its not okay is it?

In general men naturally have more muscle build than women and are bigger physically so its not a fair fight.Men should not hit women or anyone else smaller than them. And if a woman and a man are arguing and it escalates he should refrain from "hitting" her and just "restrain" her in a way that won't harm her.Men ar much bigger and can seriously hurt a woman. Now if there are weapons invovled then its a diffferent matter.Or if she is equal in strength to the man.In those exceptional cases and only if it is life threatening should a man hit a woman otherwise its like a cat picking on a mouse. What do you think and please only answer after having read what I had to say and considering it. Especially that men are much bigger than women physically in most cases.  more

Resolved Question: What is your attutude towards women in the army?

Should women be allowed in the army? I, personally, am in the reserves but if I were making the laws, I wouldn't allow women in the army. We aren't as strong as men, physically or emotionally and we get pregnant. . I'm all for equal rights like but not where the army is concerned. There are very few women who are as able for the army as most men are. What do you think? Ok, I would like to make clear two points. 1. I am referring to women FIGHTING in the army 2. I am NOT referring to the US army Again, I am NOT REFERRING to the US army! Women can be in infantry! We can be where ever we want to be! Can I stress just one more time that this question does not refer to the US army?!?!?!  more

Resolved Question: Attn Women, Point-Counterpoint?

I've noticed that depending on your perspective, either men or women get the short end of the stick. Do these equal out? Constant impulse to ravish everything in sight vs Bleeding Uncontrollable hardons vs Cramps Penis size vs Breast size Pee standing up vs Gets to use the other sex's restroom Easy climax vs Multiple climax Being a man whore is admired by peers vs Sex toys Kicked in the balls vs Usually physically weaker Now, I had thought these made us about even, but I have come to the conclusion that yall're worse off. Why, you ask? My equipment has one hole. It has one smell, and it does two things. Yours, on the other hand, is a damn mystery box. Holes every opening to a dozen different glands. You never know what the heck's going to come out of it, what color it is, what it smells like, or if it's normal. You can't predict what microorganism is going to take up residence in your crotch pocket. So, ladies, I formally concede the point, we have it easier than you.  more

Resolved Question: Here is my old feminism question...the reason it is like this is because I just pasted it from an old question

Do you think that the feminist revolution is the partial cause of divorce? Think about it, a recent survey it stated that men do 50% more housework than they did in the sixties. We also have a 50% divcorce rate. Coincidence? I am a woman and I think that if your husband is a hard working man who brings in enough money to live off and/or you have kids, why do you need to another job? Because you gave equal rights and you need to prove that you are as strong as a man? Women have remarkale abilities, but the best is having the commpassion and unconditional love of a mother and a wife. Give your husbands a break! He works hard for you! He shouldn't have to clean 50% more, he should have to rest after work. If my husband helps me out around the house, it is him saying "I love you and want to help you!" Show your husband that you appreciate him and love him back! Let him rest! 1 hour ago - 3 days left to answer. Additional Details 59 minutes ago To your question: I am not against women working. I just think that womem today are too masculin in the way they think. If your bringing home as much or more money than you husband, what does that say to him? It says that he isn't good enough and he can't support your family as good as you can. What now is the purpose of a man? After the fall of Adam and Eve, God punished Adam by saying that he would have to work the land by the sweat of his brow and Eve would have to endure the pains of child birth. Not the opposite. God, whether you believe in him or not, is real and this is his charge to us as male and female. It is not a sin to work to help support your family if you need the money, but it is a sin to work to fill your own desire to be stronger and better than a man. 50 minutes ago Another things is that marriage is about serving each other not expecting the other to have the same responsiblity that you have. A husband does not expect his wife to come to his work and do the rest of what he doesn't want to do. A wife, who doesn't work to HELP out with the family's finances, shouldn't expect her husband to come home and do the honey-do list she has left for him. If you have things that you physically can't do, write out a honey-blessing list. It is a list of things that would bless you if he had the time or energy to do them. That way, he doesn't "do" he "blesses". 45 minutes ago PS. When we got married, we were making way less than the poverty line. We made it by being frugal and not buying things that we didn't need like expensive cars and super nice apartment, etc... I would make sure that my house was clean and candles were lit and music was on when my hubby came home. It was so peacful and he loved it. 33 minutes ago I love this question and all the answers!!! 24 minutes ago This is my though--If you WANT to work outside the home, ok! But if you WANT to work outside the home and expect you husband who works to do YOUR work in the house, then you are selfish. If you WANT(not need) to work then don't expect to have your husband do the housework too. It isn't like he WANTS to work. He HAS to work to support his family. It is his God-given job. He is a good man if he HAS to do it and DOES! 3 weeks ago Additional Details 3 weeks ago Excuse me...If a Stepford wife is what they are calling a loving Mother and Wife, who takes care of her family, then I am a proud Stepford wife and loving it. Just to let you know, this is totally my thinking and not my husband. He would completely be okay if I was a feminist. I CHOSE to be Feminine and not a Feminist. To I have an Idea: I agree. Resolved Question: Why should men be a part of feminism if it only benefits women?

As a male I was once in support of equal rights for women but have changed my stance because I now realize women only use it for the good equality and not the bad. For example as an 18 year old male I had to sign up for selective service to get financial aid and not face criminal prosecution but women dont. Also divorce laws pertaining to child custody and child support and alimony favors women more than men because male judges think that women are always caretakers and are weak financially even though by todays standards we are supposed to have Equal opportunities. Domestic violence laws are also another area where men are discriminated because women are expected to tell when men physically hurt them but men are not when women hit them.  more

Better suited to certain jobs/career, if yes does that blow the whole women and men are equal belief right out of the water.  more

Voting Question: Do you believe that women are truly equal to men?

In other words do you believe that a woman can do what a man can do just as well or equal to him (beside the whole semen thing of course) Like in career (police officer, soldier etc.) Can a woman think and react like a man under stress, or do her emotions maker her the "weaker sex", can a woman be as physically strong as a man, can a woman be as power hungry and ambitious or will her "biological clock" get in the way of getting ahead because her priorities shift at some point in her life.  more

Resolved Question: Should men have the right not to support their children/?

If a woman has the right to terminate a pregnacy, because of her right to chose. Should a man have the right to not take care of a child physically, finacially or emotionally if he clearly states in the beginning that he wants nothing to do with the child. A man could want to focus on his career, education, not want children at the time, or a number of other reasons the woman might use to have an abortion. If a woman has a right to chose to be a parent or not, shouldn't the man have the same right? Its only fair and everyone claims to want to be equal. Let me get this straight. A woman can a destroy the life of her child and even put a child up for adoption. But if a man states from the moment the woman says that she is pregnant and he says that he doesn't want a child right now for the same exact reasons why women get abortions. He somehow is the worst human being ever. Every answer I'm getting is telling men to take responsibility, but what about women taking some of that responsiblity. Remember they both went half on a baby, he couldn't have done it by himself. And women have ways of using protection, so that needs to stop being the female anthem.  more

Resolved Question: Misogyny:Are American women of similar backgrounds really equal to men?

I know the answer will depend on the context:Financial, familial, politically etc, so I guess I am looking for the Gestalt response. Some points I wanted to bring up: 1.Women earn less for $$ for the same jobs. 2.The avg women will have kids and consequently the odds indicate that she will never be as productive as me at my job (I will never take maternity leave {or pat} and men take less time off than women for kids). 3.No one buys me drinks, has "Guys night" at the pub, pays for my cab or opens the door for me at the tavern. 4.Being physically less substantial than men, many women fear for their corporeal well being and even carry mace. 5.Most men don't take these measures despite them being much more likely than women to be victims of assault. Most of my women friends have never been in a fight. I've been beaten up a few times in my youth. So are we even yet? This sounds terrible but until women stop carrying purses and they get in a fist fight, I am not sure. What am I missing?  more

Resolved Question: Did you know men and women are different?

It's true! We actually have different body parts. And are brains are wired a bit differently. Now I need direction to some legitimate sites that have conclusive evidence to support that. I'm sick of all this rubbish about women being just as physically strong as men and having the same mental hardwiring and whatnot. We are different; equal in dignity, but genuinely different. Embrace the differences, people! And besides, I'd rather be carried out of a burning building by a male firefighter than dragged out by a female one. I'm tired of hearing Gloria Goldsteim's drivel. Anyone know where to find some good studies to support my views? If by sexist you mean do I think one sex is better than the other, then no, I'm not sexist. The sexes are equal in dignity, but they are different, a reality I feel the feminist movement largely rejects. Sadly, I do need studies. I wish the people with whom I'm currently debating would accept life in general as ample evidence that the abilities of women are distinct from the abilities of men, but apparently we need some "experts" to make these observations.... Haha yeah I did mean Gloria Steinem. It appears I've blended two totally unrelated people. It's 2am give me a break. And by hardwiring, I'm just talking about general tendencies. Like I've heard girls tend to do better on the English portion of the SAT, whereas boys tend to do better on the math portion. Now where are the studies that show things like this?  more

Resolved Question: Why do some men think they're superior to women?

My brother once told me a woman is under a man. I disagree. Sometimes he would remind me that I'm a woman, so I have to act this way and be like this or that and I have to listen to my future husband and blah blah blah. I can be however or whoever I want to be. There are pros and cons to everything, even being male or female. I'm proud to be a woman and would never wish to be a man. Well, there were times I wish I was a man only because they don't have to go through things we go through like menstruation, child birth, etc. but other than that, I'm proud to be a girl. I know men are physically stronger than women. There are things we can get away with that they can't and vice versa. But I don't think there's such thing as "superior" or "better". We're equal. Men seem to get paid more doing the same jobs as women. I'm not trying to sound sexist or anything. I can see why my brother's marriage failed because of his mentality. Anyway, what do you guys think? Just so you know, I'm Asian American (Hmong). Maybe it has something to do with our culture and that's why my brother thinks the way he does. I know he isn't the only one who thinks like that. I'm sure there are some men out there like that too. Like I said, SOME, not all.  more

Resolved Question: Am I the only person who was treated as property when I was young?

As I became a young teenager, I started to notice that I was intellectually equal to, and physically superior to my mum, and many of my teachers, but they still tried to tell me that I had to do what they told me to. I suppose it's like when women used to be treated as property....I see it as being very similar to that. The arguments for treating women as property; are that they are not intelligent enough to make the right decisions in life, and are not stronger than the rest of us either. Therefore, men get the final say in everything. Right now (2008) the same is said about teenagers, threrefore, parents get the final say in everything. I'm interested in seeing the arguments that are put forward today. I promise I'll respond to as many questions as I can. Seems some people are reading this wrong. I'm not sexist. I'm saying that that's what people have always said about ALL women. The same has been said about ALL young people, and I think it may be time for the finest of us to start asking if it's fair to brand ALL young (or female) people as inferior. Basically, I'm saying that people said the same thing about women (50 years ago) as is said about young people right now, and those people were proven wrong.  more

Resolved Question: Do women go for men that they consider more attractive than they are?

by their definition of course. "You can take it. Be a man!"----> It's never "Be a woman!". Ofcourse, I know I am proud of my own assets, and I am strong in all areas of my life. I am a woman. But, I just wanted to know what men generally think about women and what women think about other stereotypically "feminine" qualities. You can also argue that emotional does not equal weak. But it's up to you.  more

Resolved Question: Are men and women equal?

In the beginning, 10,000 yrs. ago, in order to survive, the man’s job was to keep the species alive. His duties included doing anything the woman was not physically able to do. The men usually hunted in packs. The women tended to the children. We are still in mid evolution. Until we live in a world that will reflect an equal (or near equal) amount of ea. gender performing equal amounts of all tasks and all occupations we have to consider that both genders are not equal. How can the genders be equal? They are as different as night and day. They are in fact, opposite. This is merely another reflection of the world of dichotomies that we live in. I was a telephone lineman for 18 yrs. I worked w/ a total of 4 females out of hundreds of fellow lineman workers. The phone company installed the affirmative action plan many years ago. Why weren’t there more female lineman? Because they didn’t WANT the job. It’s not because they couldn’t do it or not available to them. Why didn’t they want it? Because it didn’t interest them. Women tend to show less interest in tools … for example. The point I’m trying to make is that the typical conversation of the two genders ea may include topics that are not interesting to the other gender. Men may talk about fixing their truck. Women may not find this interesting. Women may talk about shopping for clothes, men may have difficulty joining in this conversation. We, as a species, tend to proliferate the commonality of what typically interests our gender. As a result, you won’t find most men, singularly, comfortable sitting w/ a group of females that are discussing their typical topics. It shouldn’t surprise us that if the opposite is true. This is why I look forward to men’s conversation … maybe not so much about what they talk about as much as what they don’t tend to talk about.. I still like talking w/ the ladies, but for different reasons. I imagine the same is true for women. Neko_Mimi- powerful words Ginger1- My position is designed to be generalizing. What I don't want to hear is ppl say, "I know someone ... or I'm not like that." It's about the composite tendencies of ea. gender. Indigo- You make some interesting pts. I like to think the OPPORTUNITY is there for total equality but the duration of time is now indicative of how many women want to enter the previously man oriented world. We must remember, some women still like it the way it was yrs. ago. They have made their choice. Freedom of choice and the opportunity defines the nature and degree women will choose to live their lives and "enroll in" what many consider, man's, once dominant territory. This is all well and good. As the permeation continues (this also goes for men being housewives) the typical topics of ea. gender will become more alike. My point is, we are not yet to equal ... getting there yes. When tasks and occupations are shared equally by both genders, we will be equal. Also, I'm not saying women are inferior. Housewives have a difficult job and it's extremely important. Sara Green- the only difference here that I have noticed is that when you have a conversation with a male, they can get argumentative, like to debate all points, rather than accept them, and tend to interrupt and get louder when they want to make a point... when you have a conversation with a female, they tend to listen more openly and accept what you have to say, even if they don't agree, before telling you their opinion or point of view... the intention is different, men want to "win" the conversation, and women want to have the conversation.... Thank you so much for this. This is EXACTLY what I am looking for. I am not necessarily agreeing w/ you, but I am seeking stereotypical gender behavior acknowledgment. cont. that is gender specific. Green Eyes- women are more valuable and stronger lol ... stronger? If you mean, physically stronger, what world do you live in? The fact that men are physically stronger by nature lends itself to the inequality of the genders. As this continues to become less of a factor by the advent of machines to do the heavy work, we will eventually see man's greater strength diminish to no factor at all. Green Eyes- You are a sexist. You may want to seek some professional help about this. and, Green Eyes ... I usually comment in a reserved fashion to allow for any benefit of the doubt. IMO- The world is so full of sexist sensitivity that many ppl fail to take into consideration than it is merely impossible at this stage of our evolution to consider both genders equal. It’s only been roughly 35 yrs since we, as a species, have even been able to confront the issue as it relates to the physical strength differences. This is a drop in the bucket of time. .Some of the typical male oriented occupations has never required superior physical strength … like politician perhaps. Sexism most assuredly prevented some women f/ making advances in this job. They couldn’t even vote until the turn of the 20th century. We still have fewer female politicians. The first stage to battle sexism and possibly create the equal environment is over … for the most part. The women/men that want to ‘cross the lines’ (as NekoMimi so succinctly put it), have done so. It is now up to subsequent generations to make use of the wider scope of opportunity. I expect that the days when we will see equal amts. of both genders as mechanics and secretaries are far away. I say this because we are far from both genders taking equal amts of interest in all occupations and tasks. It only stands to reason; the above will be reflected in our conversation.  more

Resolved Question: Feminism: Yay or Nay?

I'm 14 years old, and I find I am the only one of my friends who is absolutely opposed to feminism. I hate it! I feel like I am the only one who sees beyond it. Many of their main platforms are double-standards (you can do that to a man, but if he ever does it to you, OHHH NOO). It's gotten so bad, many of their main fights, are about things that have little to do with sexism at all, take abortion for example; it's not frickin' because men want to take control of womens bodies, it's because they are morally opposed to killing a human being! And the difference in salaries between men and women is NOT because of sexist government, it's because women are either housewives or take less physically demanding jobs, the do not usually take jobs that should be equal or higher payed than men. There are so many things I could say. I just don't understand the reasoning for feminism today, I'm not saying there wasn't ever any use for it, but NOW..? We're NOT opressed!!! What do you think?  more

Resolved Question: pysical fitness requirements for the military?

I was always brought up to view men and women as equals,to never discriminate against another race, religion etc,but now grow confused by the standards of the entrance physicals for some police forces and Military agencies, who supposedly look at a person as a person and not a gender. Why if as a cop you are doing the same job does a person have a different physical to get in based on gender,it's the same job,man or woman?I'm 30 years of age and a man and my entrance pysical for the canadian forces requires me to do a 1.5 mile run in roughly 12 mins, yet a woman of the same age has closer to 14 mins.Lets say i go over my time by 10 seconds,i fail, but am i not still way more physically able to do the job then the woman who just made the 14 mins? They also should not have age based physicals either on the same note.In closing,i'm all for equality, but EQUAL means just that and if you wanted to be treated as an equal, then do things equally.Anything else is hypocritical complaining.  more

Resolved Question: Is this a good paper? (short)?

In this country we have a great deal of homophobia. The public should be more aware of how horribly they can treat the LGBT community. This behavior has come to the point where people are hiding who they are do to the fear of being harassed and bashed. Gay teens are afraid to go to school because of what there peers might do to them. Women are getting paid less just because they’re lesbians. No matter their race, religion, or sexual orientation people should not be afraid to be themselves in there own country and should be treated as equals. On average a gay teen hears the words “faggot” or “dyke” directed to them 25 times a day. Some of them can’t even get away from the torment when they get home because there parents are against them too. Parents are kicking their kids out of the house just because they don’t want to have a gay kid. At such a young age how are they supposed to survive alone on the streets? Kids are missing school to get away from harassment and some are getting kicked out of school just because of homophobia. Why should anyone be afraid to go to school or deprived of there education? Guys may get teased by they’re peers for being too feminine and happy, but there comments are making gay four times likely to attempt suicide. Unfortunately the harassment doesn’t stop there, it goes on to adulthood. Being openly gay and trying to get a job can be very hard, a lot of people don’t want homosexuals in there working environment. The discrimination has gotten to the point where you can’t be openly gay in the army. A gay person can dedicate their entire life to fighting for a country that hates them and deprives them of rights. But can only do so while pretending to be straight. People are saying that if a man was openly gay it would make the other men uncomfortable. If a gay man is surrounded by homophobes with guns shouldn’t he be uncomfortable? People can be charged with homosexual conduct and be kicked out of the army. Being charged with something means you have committed a crime. Homosexuality is not crime, but not being treated as an equal buy the government is. Homophobia got to the point where they were trying to get people to stop being gay. Gay men were getting parts of there brain cut out because that part of the brain was thought to be the cause of homosexuality. Brain surgery can kill you it shouldn’t be used to try and “cure” something that can’t be cured. It has been proven that homosexuality is not a choice, but a cause of nature. Making someone feel like there life isn’t worth living because of something they have no control over is morally wrong. Although some people may say “According to the bible homosexuality is a sin” well so is lying, cheating and stealing. The bible says homosexuality is a sin just like everything else humans do naturally, but as many times the bible has been translated someone could have just put it in there because they wanted to. The bible is a big book but nowhere in it does it say to verbally and physically harass someone until they want to take there life. According to the bible that’s a sin. Homophobia is a big problem and needs to be dealt with. Gay people are not hurting anyone buy being gay, but people are hurting them. Discrimination against gays goes from not being able to get married to being bashed. It is a human right to be treated as an equal and that’s what should be happening. No one can make you make you like gay people the same way you like straight people, but you have to tolerate them. If you don’t you could end up the parent that throws there kid out, the basher putting a kid within an inch of there life or the government official taking his brothers’ rights away. Gay people are people too and don’t want to be tolerated they want to be loved for who they are. But people aren’t going to just drop their hate so the LGBT community has to settle for toleration. Help give LGBT people a better life and treat them like the human beings they are. Why would you want to be that person who doesn’t? Nice. I take that whole sounding like a 9th grader thing a compliment since i'm an eight grader. But thank you. Oh and do you mind if I use that? Yeah i know the stats are a bit off , but they only had one book on it for my paper and i had to use it. So it wasn't all that new.  more

Resolved Question: Why do hardcore Christians have such a victim complex?

The more religious Christians are always looking to shout 'persecution' at the slightest offense. They get snippy when you don't say 'Merry Christmas' in December, they call it a 'war on Christmas.' In fact, this past December a man in NYC was physically attacked by a Christian for replying 'Happy Hanukkah.' Recently there was a woman who was asked to remove herself from a public bus because she was reading her Bible out loud so that everyone could hear her. She shouted persecution because she wasn't given special treatment. It seems to me that these Christians forget they live in the real world, where not everyone agrees with their strange worldview. Not being allowed to have special rights over the rest of us doesn't equal persecution.  more
