I created a saved console, that referenced the Active Directory on our main domain controller. I created it so that someone can add contact entries for our global address book. When the End User (EU) opens it on their PC it says that it couldn't create the snap-in. It shows on my PC, and when I try to create a new .MSC on her PC, it doesn't have any Active Directory snap-ins. How do I add the Active Directory functionality to her PC.Much to my disliking, all users are admins over their local machines. I'm not a network admin, but I can still do it. Resolved Question: Should I be worried about "portscan detected" from my FW?

I use a computer as a server and there are DHCP, Domain Controller and Kerio Firewall on it and I use it to manage my home network. However I noticed a lot of "portscan detected" in Alerts. There are at least 50 different IP addresses that has tried to port-scan me. I also noticed a portscan from 192.168.0.3 which should be from my network, but noone uses this IP. Our school network has an active directory service (so you can log in with you user name on any computer in that domain). I can Remote Desktop into a server that is running ISS7 and ftp, but is NOT on Active Directory. I have a name of a server that hosts Active Directory, and i can connect to it from any computer that is in Active Directory, but not from the ISS server. My question is, how can i get the IP of the server / connect to it, that has Active Directory and DNS installed (Windows Server 2008) from a computer that is not connected to Active Directory (but on the same local network)? My objective is to connect to the Active Directory server (Domain controller) from a server that's on the same LOCAL network but isn't using the Active Directory service. P.S. I have the domain name of the computer running AD (DC1.school.com - for instance). more

I've connected two computers through Cat5 cable using the Private IP address on the same building and then after installing Active Directory & configuring DNS in the Domain Controller, I properly installed Exchange Server and created two accounts and then I added a new Account to my MS Outlook but when I'm going to Test my account, it gives me this error: (The connection to the server has failed. Account: '198.16.0.1', Server: '198.16.0.1', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E). Later I opened Advance and changed the "Incoming Server (POP3)" from "110" to "995" but it couldn't solve the problem. I ticked "Log on using Secure Password Authintication (SPA)" but couldn't solve it. I would be grateful of you, if you could tell me how to fix it? We have a 10/100/1000 unmanaged switch. Some of our client computers have gigabit network cards the rest only have 100mb cards. All the network cables are CAT6. Can you mix the two connection speeds on the same network? All the client computers are connected to the same switch and the domain controller has a gigabit network card. more

Resolved Question: DCP Latency problem. Glitchy audio playback.?

Hey people, I recently bought a new soundcard (Audiophile 2496) for recording music and just general better sound quality. I've installed it and everything (visually) works fine. BUT when playing music in itunes (or any other app) the sound is very choppy with any cpu stress. I've trolled the internet for a solution but can't find any. Things ive tried: Updating sound and graphics drivers. Disabling graphics card. Disabling network adapters. Disabling USB ports. Switching PCI slots Checked for any IRC conflicts. Reinstalled windows. I downloaded DCP latency checker and it is usually always in the red. I can't what is causing the latency anywhere. When going back to my intergrated sound card the performance is better but I still have red spikes of latency every 4 seconds or so. Its annoying me to the point where I feel like buying a new computer to see if it works on that. Here are some details of my (old ass) computer. I have one guy telling me that it's better on the Sonicwall because if our Domain Controller were to go down, we would still have internet. Voting Question: Computers cannot Access The Domain controller if DHCP is Enabled! :(?

We have a problem on our network, it seems that for some reason DHCP isn’t working and i cant figure out why, every now and again a computer will suddenly loose access to our domain controller, which also has all our printers on it! The only way of fixing this is giving the machine a static IP address, so its come down to the fact that its something to do with DHCP. If i Ipconfig it when it has dynamically acquired its IP, all of the DNS and Wins stuff is correct, Any Ideas? more

I have recently fomate a computer and add to our network. That's where the real problems started. I have a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition Service Pack 2 network and i can connect windows xp service pack 2 workstations to it all day long, but this time 'windows cannot find an account for your computer on the domain' message when I try and join the domain. I can however, connect to the internet proxy machine on the network. I can access network resources, but using the network ID wizard in >control panel>system>computer name still gives the error :- "windows cannot find an account for your computer on the CREWTECHNOLOGIES.LOCAL domain" **CREWTECHNOLOGIES.LOCAL is the name of my domain** the next dialog box says Your computer must be part of a domain and asks for the computer name (which must be the user name?) and the domain name. If I enter these details the following error occurs:- "A domain controller for the domain CREWTECHNOLOGIES.LOCAL could not be contacted - ensure domain name is typed correctly." Voting Question: Network problem: could not ping, print....?

I have been using WS 2008 for more than 8 months no problem until last week. Active directory, DNS, DHCP, printing etc.. everything was running smoothly till last week. Then problems began to appear out of blue. I shared a printer on a fixed IP 192.168.0.2. If anyone try to print will get "there is a problem with network". I tried to fix the problem. When I ping to the Ip I get 75% loss sometimes 100% loss. and I noticed that the problem existed with a few ips not all. Still can access network shared folders. I'm trying to set up Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop as a server for fun and to use at home. I think I have file sharing and print server down, but finding a way to make a domain and linux AD equivalent is driving me insane. I think I'm on the right track by using this SWAT, but I have no idea how to use it, and the help stuff isn't very helpful. Basically, here's the goal: To use Ubuntu Desktop as an all purpose server for file, print, and Active Directory and domain controller for both Windows and Ubuntu users. XP users should be able to log in using username and password and be able to save files to the server, and access other printers around the house. Now, file and print I have down (mostly), so how on earth do I get an AD equivalent? Eventually I'll need to install DNS and DHCP for thoroughness. more

As soon as I log on, ANY website with a club.live domain gets that error, usually after about a minute of a blank page loading. Hi, When I connect to the internet using broad band connection, some time I couldn't connect to the internet. When I change the alternate DNS to preferred DNS it works, again some more time later it get disconnect again I change the alternate DNS to Preferred DNS, after doing this changes it is working. Normally default it work to preferred DNS, if any problem in Preferred DNS auto it will work with Alternate DNS. What exactly does a virtual server do, i know that a virtual LAN can segment a network at the switch so that you can have segment that can only communicate with each othe, or you can add trunking to route vlans to other segments etc... At first i thought a virtual server was a simulation environment where you could simulate a live newtork or server and play around with it as if you were using a real network etc.. But i think a virtual server allows you to run multiple servers on the one pc. Isn't that the same as running multiple domain controllers on different PCs??.... It's a daily thing. Works one day, I run system restore, fixes it for the day. Then goes back to not working. I get an error when it's "NOT" working about domain controller not found. Resolved Question: Terminal Services Licensing without Licensing Server?

I need to register a Terminal Server with a Licensing Server to get the licensing notification to go away... the only problem is this is in a small office running a single Windows Server 2003 that is acting at the Domain Controller and the Terminal Server. When I try to register the Terminal Server using the licensing tool it cannot locate a licensing server... Any idea how to get around this?
