Becoming A Air Traffic Controller Questions asked

Resolved Question: If I join the Marines, will I ever get to see my wife?

Okay, so I want to join the military, specifically the Marines. I want to be an Air Traffic Controller. Now, if I pack the gear to become a Marine, will I ever be able to see my wife? I know that service members, especially Marines, do not like these kind of questions. I'm still going to join a branch either way, and I will not have kids until my contract is up. I'm just asking because I want to know.Thank you Justin LThank you all for your answers. I hope I get deployed at least once, so I can see what I'm made of. But it's nice to see that I will be able to see my wife at least once a week unless I'm deployed.Thank you, Bull, and thank you to all of the military members who are answering my question, thank you for your service, and to the military wives, thank you for standing by your husband and supporting him. more

Voting Question: Air Force Enlisted Jobs?

I am turning 17 this august and still am in high school, therefore i am planning to enter the air force through the softbook program. I have talked to my recruiter and even though I am dying to be a firefighter in the AF, I know the job is very hard to get a spot in even though I volunteer now at a station will have have FF I and FF II cert. by the time I graduate next june. Anyways I need to pick 4 jobs as a member of the Softbook program. One is for sure fire protection apprentice I like to help people and to make an actual difference. I also want something that has a good translation to civilian life. I was thinking possibly as the other three: Chaplain Assistant(I dont know much about this, is it or is it not a combat job?) Aerospace Maintenance/ Jet Mechanic/Crew Chief Emergency Management/Readiness Aerospace Propulsions Systems Air Traffic Controller Security Forces Integrated Avionics Systems space systems Intel (Dreams of one day working in the CIA) Crypto linguist (I am Greek and am interested in learning Greek, but I know that Arabic is in high demand, I wouldnt mind learning this, and maybe I could get stationed at souda bay in crete,greece...just a thought) Airfield Transportation/Management aerospace physiology(I know nothing about this job) SERE,EOD and PJ [probably more of impulse choices] If I had to pick today i would put: Fire Protection apprentice intel emergency management/readiness Air Traffic control or crypto linguist or airfield management Thank You and God Bless. What is harder to become SERE, EOD, or PJ? PS: I have also thought about the coast guard as an AST (Aviation Survival Technician) and more minor as Damage controlman Also, How much time do you have between tech school graduation and base assignment?Although I would still appreciate info on the other jobs I've listed, I have pretty much narrowed it down to: Fire Protecction Intel (what is the difference between this and network intel 1n4) Air Traffic Control Emergency Management Crypto Linguist Airfield management more

Resolved Question: Becoming an Air Traffic Controller Questions?

First of all, I have a green card (Perminant Resident Card) I want to become a ATC (Air Traffic Controller) I was planning to become a ATC via Air Force but i just read that u MUST be a US Citizen to enlist to this career What I was thinking was, since by joining the US air force, u get a citizenship so it didn't matter 1. Is this true that I can't enlist as a ATC career in US Air Force? 2. If so, can I join the military and become a US citizen then go to FAA approved college and later go to FAA's Oklahoma training place??? 3. Does FAA certified schools also require US Citizenships to take their classes? The main reason I wanted to join the Air Force was because I believed it was the best way and that I will receive best training to become a Air Traffic Controller after I retire so if I can't do that it'll be pretty unworthy for me to join Anyways, also can anyone also recommend me a path? Or,, do u think I have to give up my dream as a air traffic officer? Thx :) more

Resolved Question: Does the FAA decide where you work?

My step-dad is in the Air Force and they decide where you have to live. ( right now we're in Oklahoma, UGH ) I'll be graduating high school in January and soon after I'd like to start school at Mt. SAC to become an Air Traffic Controller. Since 90% of Air Traffic Controllers work for the FAA, that's what I plan to do. My question is, does the FAA have the power to assign you anywhere in the US like the military does, or is it just like any other job where I can apply at whatever location I want to work at? I'd like to stay in southern California. more

Voting Question: Help with my future career of an Air Traffic Controller.?

My sister went to a school for being a flight attendant. They then sent her to another training course for the airline she would be working for. She said she learned everything in the training course that she did in her school. She said the school and money she spent was pointless. I'm currently going to school to be an Air Traffic Controller and have a Bachelors of science. I was told after i graduate I have to go back to training anyways. I was wondering if there was any way to go straight to training. This way I can start my career ASAP and become successful. As my sister did. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all!! more

Resolved Question: Is the fundamental division in the US race, gender, or class?

This article says that class is the fundamental category of significance in American society. What say you? Here's the link to the article, and an excerpt, below it. http://www.wsws.org/articles/2009/may2009/pers-m28.shtml The Democratic Party became the principal vehicle for peddling the politics of race and gender, recruiting a layer of black, female and Hispanic politicians who engage in populist demagogy that uses race and gender to counterfeit an orientation to the interests of the oppressed masses of American society.... Barack Obama is the culmination of this process. Celebrated as the first African-American president, he has overseen the greatest handover of resources to the billionaires and Wall Street speculators in history. In the restructuring of the auto industry, with ever-escalating demands for cuts in jobs, pay and benefits for auto workers, he has set the stage for the greatest assault on the working class since the Reagan administration smashed the PATCO air traffic controllers strike in 1981 and gave the signal for a nationwide campaign of wage-cutting and union-busting. In this, Obama demonstrates that the class he serves, not the color of his skin or his social origins, is the decisive political factor. more

Resolved Question: Air traffic control education, training, ect?

I have never realistically seen myself with a specific job (I'm 17, junior) that I could handle, enjoy, ect. until today, POSSIBLY. At first, I was just throwing out ideas, but then I came across air traffic controller. Is it hard to become an air traffic controller? Because in the next 10 years, a large percentage of them will be retiring, which would be perfect for my age, since a huge percentage of air traffic controllers start when they are in their 20s, (I believe you must start before 31, as in like against the law to apply after that age). Only 13 colleges teach this, but it just so happens that one of them is only about an hour away in my home state! (Danial Webster University in Nashua, New Hampshire). That would be great since it would be much cheaper and close to home. If you receive your degree you are automatically put on an FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) hiring list. Yet I don't know what classes I must be good at in order to do this (I am a low B student, but I go to a great high school which was recognized as the 999th best public school in the entire country, the only one chosen in New Hampshire, which should help). My mother also knows an air traffic controller at Manchester Airport, and I'm sure I could visit, and possibly even receive an internship or something so that I can learn this field early. Yet am I wasting my time wishing this? How hard is it to become an air traffic controller? The outlook in the future seems great, unlike 99% of other jobs in our country. The pay seems great, it doubles after 10 years, and the average salary is over $100,000 after 20 years. Just tell me what you think about this idea. Once, if I receive this education, I would be willing to move to a populated area to receive a job. THANK YOU for reading this, I know it was kind of long. more

Voting Question: Which one of these 3 careers should I do?

Ok, so I am looking in to what I want to be when I grow up.. and these are the three options: 1: Airline Pilot. I have always wanted to be an airline pilot, and I love to fly. I am worried about the hours and job stability though... Either way, if I do or dont become an airline pilot, I am going to get my private license. So if I do become an airline pilot, whats the pay, and schooling? And any other info... 2. Air Traffic Controller: I have been recommended by a few pilots to become an ATC. What is their pay like? What hours are they usually working? Whats the schooling like? Is it a fun job? And any other info... 3. Radiologist. I have also always wanted to be a doctor. I researched all the doctor fields and this one looked the most appealing to me. My questions are what is the schooling like? What is the pay like? Is it fun? And any other info... more

Resolved Question: I am interested in becoming an air traffic controller. What steps should I take?

I am currently in the US Army, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. My job has to do with air defense artillery. What I do in particular I can't really say, but it's sort of like air traffic controlling, except reversed. I heard word that what I do can be transferred over to the civilian world as an air traffic controller, and I just was looking for more information on how to get into that field. I have some time still. I am going to be here for another 2 years before I can join a reserve unit and come home. I just like to plan ahead. more

Resolved Question: Is anyone out there an air traffic controller? I'm considering wanting to become one?

First off; I LOVE flying. I personally think it's awesome. I want to be a Pilot; but the chances of that are really slim. :/ But I do want to do something in the field of Aviation. So I'm thinking ATC; would it be a good idea to get my Pilot's license? So here are my Questions: How many hours a day does one work? Are Hours flexible? I know you have to be under 30 or 31 to be a candidate to be a ATC; does that mean you can only be a ATC until you are 31? Can you move up in the industry? Is it really that stressful? Starting out to you make good money; or does that come later on? Any other things I ought to know would be great. I plan to study up on Avionics this summer (I know Geeky XD ) To get a better understanding of the world of Flying. :] more
