Open Question: Putting Inventory on My Website?

So I have created a web page for a textbooks company that I am starting. The site is online and running but I have a big problem. I cannot figure out how to put my list of books onto the site. My site uses php and mysql. I have converted my list of over 4,000 books into a database file with author, title, isbn, description, price. I need this on my site as soon as possible but do not have the slightest clue how to do so. Do I need to purchase these shopping cart softwares that I see online? Can someone with a background in ecommerce please help out a first timer? Thank You! more

Resolved Question: Question over Big Brother is Watching Everyone.?

It a question in my homework. Here is the article you need to read first and the question is below, Privacy eroding, bit by byte Computers, Engineers Find New Ways to Keep Tabs On Us First there were security cameras, sprouting like mushrooms on street corners and buildings. Then came shopper cards, offering discounts in exchange for details about buying habits. In recent years, we've seen the emergence of electronic tags or "cookies" on the Internet, software that monitors e-mail, GPS devices that pinpoint our position on the planet, and a growing number of machines that capture fingerprints and face prints. Now comes the news that federal regulators approved the injection of microchips under the skin, enabling physicians with the right gear to know who someone is without having to ask. And yesterday, the omniscient-seeming search engine Google bested itself by announcing a service to probe for information both online and in your own machine. One company official called it a "photographic memory for your computer." Google says no personal information will be sent back to the company. But if it feels like you can't do anything these days without someone looking over your shoulder, you're not just paranoid. Cheap computers, blazing fast networks and clever engineers are finding more and more ways to keep tabs on where you go and what you buy, generally with your permission. They're even getting better at guessing what you'll do next. "It's this whole new world. It's sort of like all these little details about our lives are being recorded," said Richard M. Smith, an Internet security consultant in Boston. "We love the conveniences. We love the services. But people kind of instinctively know there's a dark side to this. They just hope it won't happen to them." Smaller, Faster and Cheaper To be sure, companies have long gathered personal and shopping information to better market to customers, often with dubious results. Who hasn't received junk mail or telemarketing calls that seem to have no connection with their lives? But those initiatives are fast improving' and accelerating as people live more of their lives tethered to cell phones, the Internet and the rest of the wired world, where trading off personal information is part of the price of admission. Think about a typical day. An advertising service is notified when you check the sports scores on the Web. The EZ-Pass transponder signals when you go through a tollbooth. The pharmacy collects personal medication details and sends them along to data companies for analysis. At work, some employees now use face recognition systems to get in to their offices, or they type on machines that trace every keystroke. "Every move you make is becoming part of your permanent record," said Peter P. Swire, a privacy expert and law professor at Ohio State University. "The trend is smaller, faster, cheaper." Rapid Accumulation There's no question the data are accumulating, and faster than many people understand. A few years ago, researchers at the University of California at Berkeley estimated that all the information created by humanity by 1999 would double by about now. One of the leading aggregators of personal information, an Arkansas company called Acxiom Corp., has roughly a million times more information about adult Americans and their families than when it first sold stock two decades ago. Other commercial information services routinely tout their ability to access some 20 billion records. And that's not counting the digital details that come in the form of photographs, videotapes and sensor readings. Most people know companies can mine credit card data, loan records and other transactions. But few know that companies already offer video-mining services as well. One day we might be able to mine the information generated by radio frequency identification chip implanted in our arms. Or we might just use a Google search service custom-made for RFID, as the chips are known. Not everybody is vexed by these trends. Homeland security, law enforcement and intelligence officials are rushing to take advantage of this wealth of information to protect the country. Web sites like Amazon.com, cell phone services, catalogue retailers, financial services companies and many others are increasingly adept at using data systems to serve customers. Ask people whether they'd give up those services, and many would offer a resounding "no." David Brin, an author and futurist, believes that recent technological developments have revolutionized the ability of people to see, through cameras around the globe, and remember details through almost unimaginably rich warehouses of information that serve as proxies for our limited memories. He predicts that we will one day be able to "know" almost everybody in the world through instant access to personal information in ubiquitous dat more

Resolved Question: Is it Legal to Sell Software Not yet Released on the market Purdue University Cytometry laboratories MailList?

Analysis software for the Mac Not yet released Verity Winlist for Mac From: Dr William Smith (willi...@ichr.uwa.edu.au) Date: Mon Sep 08 1997 - 20:10:16 EST • Next message: Mark A. Miller: "Hoechst/apoptosis summary (long)" • Previous message: Marcia Woda: "counting electronics" • Next in thread: Dr William Smith: "Re: Analysis software for the Mac" • Maybe reply: Dr William Smith: "Re: Analysis software for the Mac" • Messages sorted by: [ date ] [ thread ] [ subject ] [ author ] [ attachment ] ________________________________________ I asked a question regarding the above some time ago and received some helpful replies, thanks. It seems that the programs divide into two price categories, the expensive (CellQuest, MacLAS, FCAP List, and Verity's WinList for the Mac, not yet released) and the relatively inexpensive, namely FlowJo and FCAP Easy. We have looked at both of the latter since our facility is primarily PC based and we just wanted some additional packages for us Mac users, so can't afford to spend a lot. We have been very impressed by FlowJo, from the point of view af flexible batch analysis, ease of use, well set up program and excellent support via the web site or email. We shall shortly be purchasing several copies (when we can arrange the funds, Adam!). For others with similar requirements I would recommend also having a look at FCAP Easy, it has a few other functions at a similar price but I have to say I didn't find it easy to use and it didn't really suit our purposes, but others may prefer it. The other solution of running WinMDI under Virtual PC or SoftWindows we also tried, and as others had warned us it was quite slow (on a 7200/120 PowerPC) and painfully slow printing. Also, while I still love the graphics of this program, the inability to save the workspace (FlowJo term) to come back to later is a major disadvantage now. ______________________________________________ Dr William Smith Institute for Child Health Research (Company Limited by Guarantee ACN 009 278 755) Subiaco, Western Australia, 6008 PO Box 855 West Perth WA 6872 Ph 61 8 9340 8792/8388, Fax 61 8 9388 3414 email willi...@ichr.uwa.edu.au ______________________________________________ ________________________________________ • Next message: Mark A. Resolved Question: Info on "Web Bot Project"?

I read once about a "Web Bot Project" which supposedly predicts the future. It does this by massively analyzing words on Web sites. Supposedly it predicted a major crisis in 6/2001, but was obviously off a few months. I cannot find any information on this software or how it works, though it would make sense that software this bandwidth-intense should be kept out of the wrong hands. The "official" Web site of the Web Bot Project is just a discussion with some put-up predictions. It offers no information about the software or author, and claims that the patent rights were sold to someone else. See here: http://urbansurvival.com/simplebots.htm The Web Bot Project was discussed on the History Channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jr_hjCNMLV0 The Wikipedia article, like countless other relevant and important articles, was deleted. Here is the Deletionpedia copy: http://deletionpedia.dbatley.com/w/index.php?title=The_Web_Bot_Project Anyone know the official Web page for this software and its author? more

I would point out that lobbying ISAC is only, however, part of the answer. Regardless of what ISAC may choose to recommend, it is still up to the manufacturers to implement what they want to do, and if they do not agree with ISAC, then too bad for ISAC and the flow community. Also WEASEL comes in PC and Mac versions.Author Topic mlinde Member United States 17 Posts Posted - February 03 2006 : 6:21:13 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm looking into flow cytometer analysis programs for the PC and I was wondering whether anyone had any insight into which programs were the most useful and worthwhile. From what I have seen, Flow-Jo and FCSexpress are the more commonly used PC programs. Does anyone have any experience with either of these programs? The other option would be to purchase another Macintosh and use CellQuest. However, the best flow cytometry software is FlowJo. There is a PC (Java based) and a Mac version. The Mac version for the moment is quite better. lovesthelab Senior Member United States 1028 Posts Posted - July 06 2006 : 4:59:46 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm not a PC person, but am an ardent flow person. My flow friends with PCs swear by WinMidi, which is free. If you Google for free flow cytometry software, you'll come to 2 sites, one at UMass, one at Scripps. Lots of free analysis software for the PC, maybe because BD relied on Macs for so long. mlinde Member United States 17 Posts Posted - August 02 2006 : 5:44:55 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As an update, I tried trial versions of FCSexpress and FlowJo and wasn't really happy with either of them compared to Cell Quest. That's the company's tag line. And they deliver. LOVETHELAB?************ I'm a BD flow lover, a confirmed Mac user (I tell everyone "I don't do Windows"). So why am I touting a machine made by Amnis that requires Windows? Because this instrument goes above and beyond mere flow cytometry- it shows you every event (that's cell to non-flow users) in detail. I used it and I am sold. It takes a single experiment now to do intracellular localization, in place of two. A simpler caspase activation assay. What's not to love? Even the computer quandary is solvable (the one feature I'd change: I'd have it run off a Mac) - with an Intel Mac; just get Parallels software, install Windows, and you are good to go, or rather, run. And the ImageStream can run off an Intel Mac this way too. I bought an Intel iMac just for analysis. Installation of Parallels was easy, IDEAS is about as intuitional as any flow software package. And Amnnis reps bend over to be helpful. Don't let the price tag scare you; rather, help write a shared- instrument grant (we did) for your institution to get one. It is simply amazing. The most comprehensive flow cytometry and analytical cytology website I have found. You will find resources ranging from archived protocols to request forms for the latest protocols CD-ROMs - and they are free while supplies last. Job listings, meetings, journals, latest developments- it is all here. Lectures Website Dr. J. Paul Robinson, Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, has put a compilation of lec-ture slides on a website. Some of the information is bullet statements, but the pictures are great. If you've never seen a flow cytometer, you'll see lots of them here. If you are new to flow, you'll find in-troductory slides here. Practical Flow Cytometry, Fourth Edition by Howard Shapiro, published by J. Wiley & Sons, 2003. Website Dr. Shapiro has kindly put his textbook online through Molecular Probes. It is free! Yes, you do need to register to see it, but that's all you need to do, and you have access forever. Flow Cytometry E-mail Discussion Group Website Have a question? Novices to experts, all levels of questions are welcome. This e-mail group has been invaluable to me. E-mails are archived and can be searched by topic. International Society for Analytical Cytology Website The premier society for flow cytometry, it publishes Cytometry Parts A and B (Clinical Cytometry), Case Studies in Clinical Flow Cytometry, and Current Protocols in Cytometry. These are available on-line, but you must be subscribed for access. Regular dues are US $126; fees are deeply dis-counted for students, post-doctoral fellows, and scientists from developing nations. Please consider joining. National Flow Cytometry Resource, Los Alamos National Laboratories Website Where the cutting edge happens. NFCR runs a course every June that alternates between Los Ala-mos and New England. I recommend it to the serious flow person; you will learn a tremendous amount, including how to build your own flow cytometer, if you are so inclined. FlowCyte Website This discussion group is dedicated to flow users interested in developing uniform bioinformatics standards. They are also developing analysis and statistics software for flow users. Resolved Question: convert flv file to mobile phone, iPod,iPhone, Pocket PC, PSP, or Zune?

YouTubeRobot.com today announces YouTube Robot 2.0, a tool that enables you to download video from YouTube.com onto your PC, convert it to various formats to watch it when you are on the road on mobile devices like mobile phone, iPod, iPhone, Pocket PC, PSP, or Zune. YouTube Robot allows you to search for videos using keywords or browse video by category, author, channel, language, tags, etc. When you find something noteworthy, you can preview the video right in YouTube Robot and then download it onto the hard disk drive. The speed, at which you will be downloading, is very high: up to 5 times faster than other software when you download a single file and up to 4 times faster when you download multiple files at a time. Manual download is not the only option with YouTube Robot. You may as well schedule the download and conversion tasks to be executed automatically, even when you are not around. Downloading is followed by conversion to the format of your choice and uploading videos to a mobile device (if needed). For example, you can plug in iPod, select the video, go to bed, and when you wake up next morning, your iPod will be ready to play new YouTube videos. Resolved Question: What is a good open source community management script?

I'm looking to design a web site that is easy to update through php and post to feeds. I want users to be able to comment on all articles posted as well as display the author of all articles underneath the article's title. It doesn't necessarily need a forum built in; however, it must be compatible with an open source forum software. I know some solutions exist already; however, I'm looking at what other people use. At the moment I have tried Joomla, and that one is the only one that I have counted out 100% due to its failure to acknowledge COPA in the US.I have tried others including Word Press, Movable Type, phpBB (basic no-mods), and dupar or something like that. The most appealing is phpBB, I simply have no clue as to what mods I would be looking at for it since there are so many. more

Resolved Question: Why APACHE is forcing us to send email to Movie6.net website coordinator?

This is what you see>>>>> Hey, it worked ! The SSL/TLS-aware Apache webserver was successfully installed on this website. If you can see this page, then the people who own this website have just installed the Apache Web server software and the Apache Interface to OpenSSL (mod_ssl) successfully. They now have to add content to this directory and replace this placeholder page, or else point the server at their real content. ATTENTION! If you are seeing this page instead of the site you expected, please contact the administrator of the site involved. (Try sending mail to <webmaster@domain>.) Although this site is running the Apache software it almost certainly has no other connection to the Apache Group, so please do not send mail about this site or its contents to the Apache authors. If you do, your message will be ignored. The Apache online documentation has been included with this distribution. Especially also read the mod_ssl User Manual carefully. more
